Help me Build Something Amazing
Hotelier
It has been a couple of days since the presidential elections
I don't have to repeat to everybody what happened in an interesting turn of events. Some Canadians are still trying to cope with the new way of the world, mostly those that found themselves in the cabinet roughly two hours before the end of elections.
The fact that Molly Jo won introduces a feeling of annoyance that a great majority of Canadians have been feeling for a time. The executive order from DMV to raise taxes, the subsequent media firestorm that it birthed, and the promise of a 20% tax increase may have been the catalyst to DMV's demise. Instead, in only a couple of hours, we have seen taxes back down to 5%, and most of what DMV tried to build destroyed within minutes.
We cannot be too quick to judge DMV though. He did provide us a relatively successful war with Germany, and provided us with some much deserved fun. For that I raise my hat, never mind the tax hubub.
With the sudden shift in Canadian politics, we find ourselves at a divide. Next month can be exactly the same as the one we just left, or it can be the beginning of a new age.
Let this be a calling to all Canadians. Clan Wolf's doors are open to those who want to see the shift in Canadian politics continue. Help me create something amazing. Help me build a new party, one not built on placeholders without forum accounts, but instead built on activity and mutual respect.

20% tax increase?? DMV mah man what were you thinking?
From a campaign standpoint, the Command and Control Economy model that DMV proposed was not a good way to win votes.
However, on paper, the idea was interesting:
--a high percentage of new players quit after completing the easy missions and then hitting the "What do I do next?" brick wall
--these new accounts generate a lot of gold and CC, so they are flush with cash, which is lost when they quit
--if new players follow the missions, they build companies and will likely work them, so the 20% WT will recapture that lost cash
--the funds that the work tax generates, are then repaid back to active eCanadians through their MUs or work communes
I was not clear how that last step would work, and perhaps because it was not fully explained and promoted, people were uncertain how the Command and Control Economy would be managed. Plus, there were valid concerns that the high taxes would discourage new players and cause problems for work communes and eCanadian soil (but I hear that is a bad idea to begin with).
Interesting theory, anyhow.
One of the reason behind DMV3's ideas was that high taxes would actually deter new players from investing in companies as they are a poor investment for new players before they've upgraded their training grounds (actually they're almost always a poor investment).
The idea that new players might contribute more money back into the Treasury wasn't raised but that is a good point.
There was a lack of detail on how the plan would work in reality. Perhaps if he had spelled it all out, he might have been able to get the support to see it through.
the problem as well would be that new players who might actually stay probably will not because they can't make a dime, and under his platform, it stated that only D3 and D4 would get the tax return. Although I understand the concept, the implementation itself would cause problems in player retention and the ultimate long-term aim of maintaining population would be shot
Good point about long-term goals of player retention and supporting D1-D2 players.
Perhaps a 20% WT would only make sense in an end-game scenario, where long range plans no longer apply and the big hitters need the extra support to win the game for the team. I've seen this in other MMOs but eRep seems to have no end goal, so slow and steady long term growth may be the best fit for this game.
if the Clan Wolf can actually keep active congress members in congress, and keep inactive ones out, then I can support Clan Wolf coming back into the top five and getting rid of some of these other not so active parties
Even if not in the Top 5, Clan Wolf can help other parties bump out inactives by running active CW congress candidates.
With a little cooperation, it's possible to get an active below Top 5 party into Congress and actually increase overall congress activity in the process.
true, I had forgotten about that
my thoughts exactly
What does Clan Wolf offer that other parties don't? Do you stand for anything in particular?
It's great that you have active Congressmen, I'm just curious why they stick with Clan Wolf. Most of the top 5 parties are relatively flavourless - there's really not much that distinguishes one from the other as political philosophy tends not to apply to the reduced political module anymore. So why not just move to another party and try to improve it?
That is a valid question so don't take my reply as dismissing your point. Instead, let's suppose a similar question was asked by someone who does not play eRep:
"What does eRepublik offer that other games don't? Does it stand for anything in particular?
It's great that you have an active community, I'm just curious why they stick with eRepublik. Most of the top 5 countries are relatively flavourless - there's really not much that distinguishes one from the other as political philosophy tends not to apply to the reduced political module anymore. So why not just move to another game and try to have fun there?"
Okay, so here would be my reply to both versions of that question:
Interacting with a community to accomplish shared goals.
People are the only real interesting variable in this game and it's fun working with or reacting off of the colourful characters in each country or specific political parties. Yeah, that's not exactly a political angle.
I'm sure other members have different answers.
Lol, many people have asked that question about eRep. There's a reason that many people have been deserting this game in droves - community isn't enough for a lot of people in this boring, broken game. Some have even tried to get people to join them playing other games.
Thanks for the answer, though. It doesn't quite answer the political question - what are your shared goals and why can't you accomplish these somewhere else? If it's community that matters, you can all move over to another party together.
We already saw Clan Wolf do this before when it had merged with the Imperial Party to create the Imperial Wolves. Politically it didn't really stand for anything, it was just a way to ensure that both groups could stand in elections without competing with each other. Once the split happened, the lack of policy remained but at least CW members appear to be more active, even if they fell from the top-5. Maybe it's time for another merger?
