Hello, this is your Government Speaking...

Day 844, 12:28 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by coram_boy

Basically, there's just been an announcement on IRC by Hassan Pesaran about what's been going on, so I thought I'd post it verbatim and then try to say a bit about it. I'll also post the question and answer session below.

Hassan: Ok, we'll start with the breifing on recent government activity.
Regarding the Military:
Marines and Paratrooper units are to be merged due to increased Marine functionality, and a new requirment for the combined unit will be decided upon
A figure that is being looked at is the rank of General
Strength requirement will be scrapped, as Generals are generally going to be 11-12 ~ strength anyway.
There has also been a recent deployment to Argentina
However, due to a slump in Military activity, there are no other notable deployments
The strike in KwaZulu Natal was succesful
And the region was conquered by Argentina through a combined PHX effort
On the Financial Side:
Obviously the main subject has been this: http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/-uk-government-investments-and-loans-1247374/1/20
This is a new initative by the government and we hope for it to be a great success
Any questions and I'll be more than willing to answer
Domestically: MoHA has continued to run a stellar job, with a recent article encouraging IRC activity.

Nothing too world-shaking here, but there's plenty of interesting stuff, principally the new ministry of profit's scheme (a question about that below) and the military reforms. But these are mainly covered in more detail below, so have a looksee there.

JvB: says: >I mean; instead of having a rank boundary (i.e. Generals and above) you say 'If you can hit 170 or higher'. This takes account of both rank and strength.
Rank and strength requirement has not been confirmed, and obviously General is not a certain.
Military reforms are in preliminary discussion stages.

Othere asks: Currently Marines are a sub-section of the Navy. Will the marines be fully integrated with Paras?
Once again, this plans are preliminary, but the current feeling is that they will be fully integrated. The units will simply be combined.
.
SaraD asks: >just what is the general relationship between you [and Ireland]? Is a new Raleigh Treaty thought of?
Mr Woldy and his staff in the MoFA have an objective to improve and rebuild relations with Ireland
Informal discussions have occured and they plant to move forward and hopefully end this month with the relationship in a much better position than at the start.
.
Emergy_Maxfell asks Can contracts be offered to people who invest greater than X amount of gold?
(in regards to Government bonds)
They can be, if they _really_ want them
But as its a government ministry, they aren't offered by default
If people can get hold of an adequate contract the Ministry would be happy to sign it.

Betafoxtrot: asks Whats happening with the navy/marines/para becoming 'the army' for V2?
V2 has been discussed extensively in the Cabinet, and we plan to move forward with information we get in upcoming Insiders regarding the Military module
It would be brash to make decisions before we are fully aware of how the module will operate
Once we have a solid base of information, the government will start drafting plans
All COs will be consulted.

I hope that this was an interesting insight into what's going on at the moment; many thanks to Hassan. Hopefully there's some food for thought here, and if there are more questions, come onto #cabinet.public next Wednesday to find an answer to them!
Thanks for reading (and I'll shamelessly plug here for you to vote and subscribe 😃)
