Hello Taiwan / 你好台灣

Day 1,053, 13:13 Published in Republic of China (Taiwan) Switzerland by HuCard

Greetings, people of the Republic of China/Taiwan/Formosa. After having almost abandoned eRepublik already, I was made to pay some attention to it again and decided to move to this promising new country to aid its rise to nationhood. I would like to use this chance to introduce myself; alas not in Mandarin, for I can only speak German, English, and insufficient French thus far.

I have been active in eRepublik for well over a year now. Though I am German outside of the game, I was born in eSweden. After Sweden declared war on Germany I however defected and supported my fellow Germans in their futile struggle against the invaders, which was followed by a period of preparing in exile for the liberation of the occupied lands. Hungarian support brought Germany back on the map, and I became a congress member of the new government as well as ambassador to Canada.

Eventually - and much to my dismay - Germany decided to join PEACE during their great North American offensive, leaving Canada which was the only former ATLANTIS nation who kept fighting for Germany till the bitter end to the Hungarians. Outraged, I left the country and moved to Canada, where I would later become congress member and ambassador to the United Netherlands. In this position I almost achieved a non-aggression pact between the two nations, but alas another Phoenix-EDEN war prevented any deeper ties.

Following my formation of a small United Dutch militia (under the Military Order of Rhenus) to help France in its war against Spain and a hiatus of some time, I eventually grew tired of the limits of Canadian foreign policies due to its dependence on EDEN and thus moved over to Belgium, where I became the Minister of Finance and Economy for two terms under president Thore Thoreson. After the introduction of Rising/V2, the Belgian economy was in ruins. Just like Taiwan it is a country lacking any kind of High region, so I devised a plan to subsidise export licenses to foreign raw material companies in return for them selling their goods at a price equivalent to their domestic ones. This scheme had moderate success; it did lower raw material prices a bit, but sadly not as much as anticipated, in part due to the unreliability of our partners.
Eventually the government accepted a proposal from aVegan to create raw material state companies abroad to supply the Belgian market at the lowest possible prices. I did extensive research on finding the then most efficient and profitable locations for every raw material, but unfortunately a couple of things happening outside of eRepublik drew me away from the game, leaving me unable to witness what fruits the government’s work bore.

A few days ago a close friend of mine suggested that I should play the game again and move to Taiwan. Seeing how my autumn break started today (though it will be plagued by studying for a bunch of exams I’ll need to write during/immediately after the second week) I decided to reactivate my account and sail over to the shores of Ilha Formosa.
My grandfather was a Han Chinese from the People’s Republic who - as a Catholic - was forced to flee from the Mao regime and with the help of Spanish monks did so via Taiwan. In other words, without the Republic of China I would not exist today. To return this favour, I wish to take part in the building of the new nation of eTaiwan. Though my activity might be limited due to needing to study a fair bit for school, I hope to be able to put my past experiences and future ideas in the service of this country and look forward to seeing it flourish.
