Goodbye ONE, Hello BigAnt
Septuagenarian
Welcome to edition one of Throwing Rocks, the random thoughts of a cantankerous old f*rt. This isn't going to be a daily, weekly or even monthly publication, I only plan to publish an issue when I feel there is something to say.
ONE
First, a few words to mark the passing of ONE reported here http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/-one-end-of-an-era-one-officially-dissolved-2095952/1/20
From a complete newcomers perspective I can see that ONE was good for the UK insofar as it enabled us to reclaim our lands but I'm not sure that our leadership did enough to communicate the benefits, or otherwise, of continued membership. From what I have seen anyone that attempted to get any information out of our leadership, or question what exactly was going on, was greeted by a standard response which could be paraphrased as “Run along you insignificant twerp, we the Great and Glorious Leadership know what's going on and we're keeping that information to ourselves”. I realise that some information is likely to be sensitive, especially when in the process of negotiation but once we are in an alliance we should not be treated as mushrooms (Kept in the dark and fed bullsh*t)
Lets hope our new CP is more communicative, speaking of which....
We elected BigAnt as CP yesterday.
All Hail BigAnt o7
My thoughts on the Election process
Communication both won and lost votes. BigAnt's campaign was surely the most visible and that, combined with the fact that he was publicly visible in a number of roles beforehand, ensured that he (she?) was always going to be a popular candidate. It was interesting seeing the reaction candidates received when they published their manifestos. To the next candidates for CP whenever the next election comes around, if your manifesto is being publicly ridiculed maybe its time to review your message or they way you're delivering it.
Don Dapper (http://www.erepublik.com/en/citizen/profile/6046175 ) pointed out we had an extraordinary number of new citizens on election day, I wonder how many of them will still be active in a weeks time.
One final thought on the election, I heard talk of people buying votes in the past but no one approached me during the CP election. Let me make my position quite clear for future elections, MY VOTE IS ALWAYS FOR SALE! I will accept any bribe from any candidate, the bigger the better. The only thing to add to that statement is the fact that only I know how I voted and whether I will stay honest(i.e., I will stay bribed) is the risk you will have to take 😉

V+S Nice read
🙂
V+S
V+S. And of course, good luck to our new president. 🙂
It's a pleasure to read a gentleman.
he (she) probably should have gotten a lot more votes, considering the line up - our candidate pulled out and released no campaign articles yet got 174 votes to the ESO/UKRP candidate, BigAnt, who got 207.
I'm not sure that's something to be proud of....just goes to show that many people will vote by knee-jerk response along party lines. I abhor that in real life and here, people should at least make an informed choice. BMThatcher, BigAnt, and Bamber actually put in the effort and I would have preferred to have seen a closer race between those candidates.
We should also get back into a practice of having actual debates and discussions about different policies.
Danie, the fact that TUP members still voted for a candidate that pulled out and didn't publish any manifesto is nothing to do with how well the TUP can run a campaign and more to do with how partisan the party is , That's not normally a criticism parties are partisan by and by but in this case goes to show the damage that partisan politics can do. Had CD won we wouldn't have CP and instead we'd be having an impeachment vote.
boated 😛
If we'd liked any of the other candidates we would have voted for them. People wanted to show their displeasure with the line-up by not voting for them, assuming that CD couldn't win.
If you analyse the votes and assume everyone voted with a along party lines for voting, then you had 62% of members of ESO & UKRP voting for BigAnt, 58% of TUP voting for count Drakula, 50% of UKPP [plus John Bull, UK Advance & British Tea party] voting for BMT, 63% of PCP & WRP voting for bamber, and 31% of Dharma Initiative voting for Stefan. Had either TUP or UKPP had a full turn-out the result would have been very different. Also, think of it this way, 63% of voters voted AGAINST BigAnt.
Ayame Crocodile
Your ignoring the fact that certain people both themselves voted and advised others to vote in a way that would ensure an impeachment vote wouldn't put someone they were very stongly against in charge.
I always said that I would never vote for someone who had that fatuous grinning idiot as an avatar, but there was no-one else in the running as far as I could see, so why waste a vote?
excellent article, great to have a young player's perspective, keep it up
Elvis many, many ,many thanks
I haven't been young since before most players here were born

@IfIWereARichMan, that sounds sensible, I repent from voting BigAnt, simply, I didn't realize the grinning face! give my vote back!
