Goodbye and Good Luck

She Saved the World. A Lot.

I spent a lot of time debating how to say this, but no matter how I dress it up, the truth remains the same: I'm quitting.

eRepublik, to me, was a game where you defended yourself and your friends. You helped people start over in eAmerica through the citizenship module, you taught newbies the ropes, and you kept your allies safe via MPPs and ATO. If eAmerica were to war offensively, it would only be to liberate oppressed countries. That's the kind of patriotic roleplay I enjoyed and that made the game fun for me. Now, we attack countries, gain new territories, and attempt to PTO them. eAmerica, with its talk of making vassal states through PTO, is no longer the eCountry I grew to love in World War III. I refuse to help an eCountry such as this.

Please understand that I do this as a last resort. I tried ignoring the PTO activity and talk, I tried complaining about it, and I tried focusing on the things that matter to me: citizenship, newbie retention, and Congress. None of this, not even half-assing my time in eRep (of which I'm sure you've noticed I'm eminently guilty), managed to suppress the nagging little thought in my head that through war and through PTO, this country had become something of which I could no longer be proud.

Nor could it disguise the fact that a game that makes me more angry and miserable than satisfied and happy is just a bad game. And as anyone raised on video games can attest to, the only thing to do with a game that's gone sour is to stop playing it. And that's just what I'm going to do.

One last look back before I go.

I'll stick around for a bit on the official eUS forums to hand out contact details to anyone who wants them, but I am transferring my assets (15.29 Gold and 204.98 USD) to USA Welcoming Committee, resigning my post as Senator (my citizenship approvals will not be used to repatriate PTOers), quitting my job and publishing my last article now. I won't be logging in again, so this is farewell and take care, eAmerica. I love you all, even when we don't see eye-to-eye on what's best for the eCountry and its citizens.

Signing Off, eAmerica,
