Good King Woldy's Crown Jewels - Launch party!

Day 5,623, 09:06 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Mr Woldy

Good afternoon citizens and citizen-scientists alike.

Nestled amongst the empty wasteland of The Undulating Peaks of Cumbria, just down the road from Sellafield, stands King Woldy's Dacha. Here KW entertains diplomats and quaffs as much port as is humanly possible, before vanishing into the night on a drunken stupor. Only a handful of guards are left to care for the place and clean up. Being a glutton for ostentation, KW has had his magnificent Crown jewels moved to the Dacha so he can show them off to visitors. You are a crook. And you want to steal them.

Welcome to the Good King Woldy's Crown Jewels launch party. This article will explains the rules and aims of the game and has the sign up link (scroll down to the bottom to get there quick). Do shoot me a PM if you have any questions and remember, there is a prize of 1000 Q7 Weapons to be won!

Ahhhh. Sellafield. Such memories.

Objectives

GKWCJ's is a turn based game set over three floors (one round per floor) of King Woldy's Dacha. Players will case the joint, seeking thievin' items, unearthing clues, and beating each other up before finally declaring where they believe the Jewels to be, and their method for pinching them.

Players

Players will assign a +0, +1, and +2 to each of the following characteristics:

Litheness of Body
Sharpness of Mind
Nimbleness of Finger

This 'characteristic modifier' will be applied to the corresponding 9 skills, shown below:
LoB - Sprinting
LoB - Boxing
LoB - Strongmanning
SoM - Intuiting
SoM - Hoodwinking
SoM - Figuring
NoF - Picking
NoF - Fiddling
NoF - Gesturing

These skills areas will determine players strength, capability and ineptitude in acquiring the Crown Jewels. On sign up each player will choose one skill to be their cat-burgling expertise. The modifier for this skill will be doubled.

Gameplay

Each round is split into three turns (three rounds of three turns means nine turns in total). Players will use this form (shown here to aid understanding) to submit their instructions for each turn, informing me, the mightiest of Gamemasters, what they wish to do. This will be based on an Action Economy, players will have 6 action points to spend each turn. They must spend 2 action points in each of the three areas:

LoB actions
- Move from one room to another (1AP)
- Box someone's ears (1AP)
- Climb a wall (2AP)
- Move furniture (3AP)
- Hide! (1AP)
- Run (allow all remaining action points to be spend on LoB actions) (2AP)

SoM actions
- Search for clues and puzzles (2AP)
- Think hard. But not too hard (50/50 chance of applying either a +1 or -1 to all skill checks this turn) (1AP).
- Intuit oddness of a room or weakness of a person (2AP)
- Ponder puzzles you have picked up (earn a prompt for a puzzle) (2AP)
- Plant a false clue (4AP)
- Beseech the Spirit of Bob Boblo for guidance (allow all remaining action points to be spent on SoM actions)(2AP)

NoF actions
- Destroy evidence (2AP)
- Pick locks or fiddle ornamentation (2AP)
- Silently gesture (1AP)
- Apply makeup (1AP)
- Safety release activation (break a puzzle)(3AP)
- Crack knuckles and perform finger stretches (allow all remaining action points to be spent on NoF actions)(2AP)

In a turn they will unearth clues and puzzles, which they will be issued with at the end of the round. Between rounds they will have time to answer any puzzles for further clues or information, all of which will assist their understanding of where the jewels are and how any items they have found may be deployed. Their activities in the Dacha and attempts to acquire clues will be based on skill checks, which will be based on a six-sided dice roll, plus any relevant skill modifiers.

Turns will be submitted on GDOCS, and an article summarising each turn will be published on election days, if not more frequently. However in processing turns events may occur that force the use of Action Points on a specific task - bumping into one of the sleepy guards may force a box for example.

The Ground Floor of the Dacha

SO, that is all there is to it. So if you are keen to play, sign up here! (eUK'ers only!). After a day or two I shall set up a group PM with next steps.

Thanks for reading.
