GLD - the recent events

Day 591, 05:07 Published in Netherlands Netherlands by psandrad

Dear GLD'ers (and everybody else)

It has come to my attention that in the last couple of days, a lot of confusion was created around the GLD and Peter Green. It seems the article me and Trinc wrote has partially caused this too, so hereby I will try to explain everything as precise as I can.

Let me start by saying that we have a lot to thank Peter Green for. He started this party and in a short period of time, it became quite the succes. Now the GLD is part of the government, and we are able to make a difference and address issues we find important.

So what are the reasons we are in the position we are standing in now?

Right after congress-elections, we were invited by the Belgian party to partake in the coalition talks. Peter decided that he himself, me and Trinc would represent the GLD there and we started out very enthusiastic. However, suddenly Peter stopped posting on the coalition forum, and also in the GLD it remained silent. The last I heard of him directly was a short conversation on IRC, where he hasn't been seen either since.

One has to realise that Peter's role in the coalition talks was a vital one. As our president, he would have the final saying in issues that were regarding GLD's plans in this government, so we needed him to be there more than ever. I started to send messages, and so did some others, but we didn't get any response anymore. At first we were like; maybe he's just on vacation or something. After all, eRepublik is just a game and it's certainly not more important than life itself. Anyone that entered this profile though, could see that he still worked in eRep. It seemed he just didn't feel like responding anymore. In the meanwhile, coalition talks were still going on, and without Peter's approval, GLD wouldn't even be able to sign the plans. This situation was thus hampering the formation of a new government and after several days me and Trinc felt we had to do something, because a new government needed to be presented. By presenting our article, we created the possibility to have the power to finalize coalition talks.

It is not by any means an attempt to take over the party! The fact that I chose to be a candidate for PP was merely a symbolical action, that has been misinterpreted by some. Perhaps I shouldn't have done that, because it seems like a created the idea I wanted to kick out Peter and take his place. This is not the case. I became active in the GLD to try to make a difference, and I am not after personal glory.

During all these events, the rumour popped up that Peter Green had been buying votes from American Marines who were at that point invading our country. There is some evidence for this, but without Peter here to defend himself it would be unjust to draw conclusions. Some people asked him about this before he left, and he denied the fact that he had been buying votes, but he didn't respond to the evidence presented to him (as far as I know).

The link between Peter Green and the USA is no secret. On his wiki page and in his shoutbox we can read that he has tried to become the president of the USA, which in itself is no problem. Yes, the USA can be considered our enemy at the moment, but that doesn't mean its citizens don't have the right to become active in politics elsewhere. Back in his USA days, Peter also began a party: the Green Party (sounds familiar huh?) This party obviously started out very small, but gained some fame later on and eventually they even managed to get some members elected in US Congress. Then something weird happene😛 Peter suddenly dissapeared, leaving his party behind in confusion. They waited for some time for his return, but nothing happened. Then, one of the elected congress members decided to take action and presented himself as PP candidate. The Green Party continued, but could never improve their position and the PP candidate (let's call him John Doe) quit the party and moved abroad. Nowadays, the Green Party doesn't play a role of importance whatsoever anymore.

I managed to track down this John Doe, and asked him about what happened back then. He kindly responded one day later and told me this:

"He did start the Green Party in the eUS with me as a founding member. And we were on the rise and it peaked with me being elected the first Green to Congress, but unfortunatly I was the last as Peter left unannounced. As the number two I took control of the party but eventually left. I thought with him coming back he would be different but apparently that's not the case. So I guess the best thing to do would be to vote him out as PP."

Peter was gone for about four months. After this, he re-appeared here in the eUNL and then... well, we know the rest, right?

All in all, this has all been quite a dissappointing experience. Peter was a very pleasant person to work with and I do feel he would've been a great asset to the party. I really do hope we get an explanation some day. Regarding this article: some people will probably think it is way to open-hearted, but I feel it is important to be like that in these kind of matters. The GLD has nothing to hide.

I hope this answers most of the questions that have been going around. All members are invited to discuss these matters (and the future!) on the GLD forum, that can be found here: http://www.enetherlands.nl/viewforum.php?f=109

Best regards,
