I am a Guru (level 9) technician. That means I make ammo to increase the damage for weapons. Running a bit of a simulation, I stumbled across something crazy. I run a 0.15 CAD deficit/hour that I work...working at minimum wage.
Hypothetical scenario:
I work in a q4 artillery company that has 100 points in ammo, with 10 workers (for maximum productivity). Lets assume a health and happiness of 90 each.
According to the wiki, my productivity is as follows:
Productivity = 1/2 * A * B * (C + D) * E
A = employee bonus
B = skill level
C = wellness bonus
D = happiness bonus
E = hours worked
http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/Productivity_formula
For me, A=2, B=9, C😃
=2.8, and we'll let E=1
So per hour, I do 50.4 productivity. I'll be generous and include the free 10% booster you can use for a total of 55.44 productivity.
Since I work in an artillery company, there is a modifier of 3, which we can plug in to see my units produce😛
U = P / M = 55.44/3 = 18.48
To complete one component of ammunition, takes the number of customization points, or 100.
C = U / CP = 18.48/100 = .1848 ammo
As well, "Every product needs 1 unit of raw material per 1 customization point used, multiplied by the modifier number listed below." So one unit of (100 CP) ammo requires 300 units of titanium.
http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/Raw_materials
At current market value, titanium is selling for 0.03 CAD. Thus it would take 9 CAD to make 1 unit of ammo. I use up 9*.1848=1.6632 CAD of titanium per hour that I work.
A current market value of 35 CAD for a q4 artillery, means that a 8.75 CAD profit/component must be realized to break even. (Since you need 1 of each component to make 1 artillery)
I make .1848*8.75 = 1.617 CAD profit at the break-even point. That means that I lose the company 1.6632-1.617 = 0.0462 CAD for every hour I work...before wages! With a minimum wage of 0.1, thats 0.15 CAD lost for every hour I work. The formulas still need to be tweaked a bit I'm afraid 🙁
To find out how valuable you are to your employer, get the following information: your skill level, the number of customization points your company uses in your field, the price your company's product sells at, and the price of the RM that your company uses We'll assume theres the optimal number of employees working, and your health+happiness = 180.
Then calculate this: 5.6 * L * ( P / ( C * M * CP ) - RM )
Where P = Price of finished good
CP = Customization points in your field
L = your skill level
RM = price of Raw Material your company uses
C is the following:
-Foo😛
2
-Moving Ticket, House, Hospital, Defense System: 3
-Rifle, Tank, Air Unit, Artillery: 4
M is the following:
-Foo😛
0.3
-Moving tickets: 2
-House: 25
-Hospital: 115
-Defense system: 115
-Rifles: 2
-Artillery: 3
-Tanks: 6
-Air Unit: 9
This formula tells you how much profit your employer makes on your work (not including your wage of course). It's a good gauge of whether you're getting paid appropriately.
Using my example, M=3, C=4, CP=100, L=9, P=35, RM=0.03
5.6 * L * ( P / ( C * M * CP ) - RM ) = 5.6 * 9 *( 35 / ( 4 * 3 * 100 ) - 0.03 ) = 50.4 * ( 35 / 1200 - .03) = 50.4 * ( -0.00083333) = -0.042 CAD/hour
To make it easier, I've crunched some numbers so you only need to know the Customization Points, and Price the company is selling at.

urg - numbers, so many. Nice work Cham. Where's that other citizen with the "Math is Fun" newspaper. You two should hook up.
Seems to be alot of people coming out with these type of articles.
Great work Cham. Voted.
Awesome...my brain exploded...but awesome.
Seriously though Cham, this is great. knowledge is power and with you keeping those of us who suck at numbers, informed, we are all better off
