Free Flanders: The President And You
Habraka Abrivianius
Citizens of Belgium,
Amid fervent discussion about a possible friendly union between Belgium and The Netherlands, an auxiliary debate has emerged concerning the bias of current President Palodigon.
Research by several Free Flanders politicians, including current Prime Minister CreveRoeland and the Minister of Trade, yours truly, and several Belgian and Dutch high ranking politicans and influential businessmen, concludes that a union that encompasses both the Northern Netherlands and the Southern Netherlands (Belgium) would clearly improve the economy of the union, it would create more good-paying jobs for it's citizens and create a more stable and durable political system not dependent on the goodwill of our neighbours. The full discussion can be followed on the official eBelgium forums located here: http://s1.zetaboards.com/eBelgium/index/ (Please register and log in!)
Now, President Palodigon is opposed to this union, for the main reason it would make his Q4 Grain company, which is situated in a medium productivity region, obsolete as the union would have a high Grain productivity region. Estimates are that President Palodigon would lose up to 200 Gold if the union would come into effect. Let's take a look at what this means for you, the average citizen that works, trains and eats every day: at the moment, the cheapest Grain in decent quantities on the international market is around 0.0085 Gold per unit of Q1 Grain. Palodigons Grain, the President's company, sells Grain in Belgium at 0.0115 Gold per unit of Q1 Grain (price of Q4 Grain divided by four). The international price of Food is 0.011 Gold/unit of Q1 Food, whilst the cheapest price of Food in Belgium is 0.020 Gold. This means Food in Belgium is almost double as expensive as it is abroad! Add to that the fact that the driving force behind the high import taxes of Grain in Belgium are the Grain company owners in Belgium, which, you guessed it, President Palodigon is a member of.
The President of Belgium is solely acting on his own behalf when using his political leverage to prevent an union between Belgium and The Netherlands, as he would personally lose Gold, which he invested in a bad businessplan in the first place, something which he cannot tolerate. So next time you buy that overpriced piece of food, or you have a Grain company that wants to import to Belgium but can't because you have to pay 99% import taxes, think of who made this possible, think of the guy that steals your money right out your pocket and puts it in his own, think of President Palodigon.
Will you vote for a President that lets his own personal gain stand in the way of the wealth and prosperity of the whole Belgian people? Will you allow this intolerable crime to be committed further, on a daily basis?
Say no to President Palodigion, vote CreveRoeland for President!

Let the Belgian people decide. They can register at the eBelgium forums, read the ongoing discussion, and decided for themselves if President Palodigon is biased or not.
Voted, Palodigon shouldn't take this personal, Habraka has the right to point people to the fact that the job of president and the job of CEO is getting a bit intertwined in Belgium.
Palodigon, if you have some counter-arguments, don't hesitate to share them.
"The President of Belgium is solely acting on his own behalf ... as he would personally lose Gold, which he invested in a bad businessplan in the first place, something which he cannot tolerate."
"The President of Belgium is solely acting on his own behalf when using his political leverage to prevent an union between Belgium and The Netherlands"
Ik heb NOOIT een fusie tegengewerkt.
"or you have a Grain company that wants to import to Belgium but can't because you have to pay 99% import taxes, think of who made this possible, think of the guy that steels your money right out your pocket and puts it in his own, think of President Palodigon."
protectionsime > internat. handel in erepublik.
1. If you wanted to do something about the Grain shortage, why didn't you start a company in a high productivity region then?
2. I haven't heard from anyone else that is going to lose money on this union. So far, only you have really complained about it.
1. What High productivity region? Belgian has none.
2. How are foreign countries going to talk about this? They're not registered on the forums.
Ever thought about making a company in a non-Belgian high grain productivity region and donating grain directly to the Belgian food companies? Probably not.
What do other countries have to do with it?
How about, creating some jobs in Belgium for once instead of opening job offers in 10 different countries.
I just wanted to add one small thing...well to be fair...two small things..
You just regained your country. Why do you wish to part from it again and become a 'province' of the Netherlands? I'd be proud just to be in my country, I wouldn't give it up..again.
Secondly, a 99% import tax can hardly be blamed on the president. That's what you have a congress for. Don't like it? Put up a vote and change it. Even presidents only have 1 vote.
Cheers!
Thanks Nithraldur 😃
