Forums; Good or Bad?
Nicky6Fingers
i am curious to know how everybody feels about the forums being gone, now that they have been gone a while i think its a good time to ask. Do you think removing the forums has bettered or worsen our eSociety?
I also want to know how everybody is talking with each other?
i hate the CSFR attack

welcome back. messages and facebook for me
There are forums being used http://auserep.forumotion.org/
Most of the political/congress stuff gets done via in-game pm as there has always been people who never attended any type of forum. This ensures everyone sees what is going on.
Only time will tell if it a really good thing or bad due to every new system that gets put in place always has teething issues.
My personal opinion is that it is better, as everyone will get an equal say rather than being controlled by a minority
Well the old forums closing was the choice of XG, I told him i was removing Government business from the old forums if i won the CP elections for May, so he closed the forums down instead of taking certain actions that the vast majority had been calling for for a couple of years which says it all basically.
Not really a big deal as the red tape and bureaucracy has finally gone and there is more debate and discussion in the in-game PM's by senate then there has been in years on the old forums. I have been told the old forums are still operating and will be opened once the new forums ''inevitably collapse'', not going to happen...admins and mods are elected by everyone and you don't need this 30 signatures etc BS. laws and legislation (remember it's a gem people!!!) have gone but if a senator wanted them back then we have said they are free to post them up and senators can discuss and vote on bringing them back...personally i think the current system involves more people so is more democratic.
The whole old forums because a vehicle of control, bloody laws left right and centre for senate. Votes and debates with just three people participating in the end...it became idiotic. The ADF revitalisation is the perfect example - old ADF had numerous people getting top supplies to supply a dozen people and they had to sign up to the forums and post up for them...now, it's done automatically by one person. Saves weapons, saves cash, saves time and doesn't exclude anyone.
Common sense beat red tape and the refusal of change, yes old memories have gone as some will say, but players who i have seen were the most vocal about their closure were hardly active on the old forums anyway.
Its all about control Nicky.
People will make their own minds up about where the need to control is coming from, no matter what BS is posted in comments here.
Personally I think the closing of the original forums has been damaging to the Australian community.
I personally haven't seen much debate in the in game pm's for senators, guess it's been pretty smooth for the CP so far. I too think the community has suffered but then most of the "better" and personable players are gone.
new forums same as the old.... few really use them, possibly even less than original forums?
Did you visit the old forums in the last four months of their lives? The new forums aren't ideal but there is more activity and logging on. Senate operates in game now which includes ALL elected senators and not just those who choose to sign up to an external site.
I agree with a bit of everything said.
Louise is right that a lot of our history was gone. Xavier's site wasn't just forums it was EAus origins. our past is important to map our future.
Lany reminds me of a lot of the people i knew in the game before leaving full time end of last year have now gone or moved countries they seem so far away 🙁
The main thing i agree with Hugh about was the power struggle. not about who was in charge but the runner's reaction to those who governed. Admins tried to interfere during TJ's cabinet and there was the motion to have Ranger Bob removed that annoyed me when he didn't do anything. i was new and gave one particular admin the benefit of the doubt until i saw her work. that was enough.
even so i'm not keen to go from one ship to another. Knighthawks will have their own forum for those who want it if not that's ok too.
Looking forward to seeing the Knighthawks forum up & running \o/
Oh dear. Forum chat.
As owner of the current forums, I'll just say it - I honestly don't really care all that much. I just don't. I don't spend every waking moment on there snooping in other peoples sections unlike on the last forum, because I don't care. I don't have admin rights...I'm the owner, and I don't have admin rights. I can't see every section. Infact, even the admins on this forum can't control every section. Cabinet, for example, they have no moderator powers in. Individual party forums, they have no moderation over. They're re-elected every 3 months along with mods. There's no red tape. People moan about this but no one as of yet has had the balls to propose anything. That's not my fault, that the community as a whole - people just don't care. They scream and shout and stamp their feet but never actually do anything. That's fact.
As for this "oh eAus' history has gone"...it hasn't. It's still there. The old, overbearing forums still exist. It's not just disappeared. They're still there. They haven't "closed". They're still running.
Personally, I'm very happy with the amount of people who signed up to and who do go on the forums every now and then. I feel like they're certainly more sociable than the last ones. And it just goes to show...this is now the third month without the old, silly forums, and guess what? Australia still stands, in a better position in fact that it has been in a while. Nothing has gone wrong. We haven't needed ridiculous rules. We're doing just fine.
Disagree with some, certain people who have left (and I'll add, not left the game, just left Australia) we're definitely some of the worst people in Australia, and to no longer have to deal with their overbearing tedious crap is just brilliant.
Oh and on the power thing. If it was power, there would rules and regulations in place to protect a certain few. We don't have that. The old forums did. Just think about that for a second
''That's not my fault, that the community as a whole - people just don't care. They scream and shout and stamp their feet but never actually do anything. That's fact.''

Those two paragraphs there are perfection. Still Aus stands and is in a better position than it has been all year...still, what does a regularly full media, a senate, being in an alliance and being on he map prove eh?
Personally the proof was there that the old forums damaged the eAus community, a tiny minority used them and then there was protests about them including petitions signed by more of the community that opposed them than used them. Still those with an agenda will not remember that or see past the blinkers sadly. Major thing with the new forums is that the country runs smoother, no 48 hour debates for something that requires action immediately...such as an airstrike. The admins and mods are regularly elected by the community which i know appaulls some from the old guard...i mean bloody hell whats wrong with the old system of donating and then that doner being appointed as admin by the owner? But as BOUD1CCA said...it was all about control and that's why the new forum helps eAus.
Also lany I have seen more discussion in those PM's than senate threads in the old forums in the last few months before they died...an alliance discussion and just two senators commented...really? And if i may add perhaps if the ''better'' players hadn't of abandoned the old forums then they wouldn't have been dead on their backside in the first place I'm afraid...or if we had an owner that put the communities voice above a friends....perhaps...just perhaps?
Nope.
Well, I certainly wasn't around for the old forums, but as I've looked around, I find that the new forums are intact and neat, the only problem being no one has posted any recent information about the game. There are plenty of helpful tips on there about how to post an article and senate guides. I just think that if any in-game activity changes drastically, then it should be recorded on the forums to validate anything if we need to go back and look. I also think that if we continue to post new laws and legislation that was made for the Senate, we could just go directly there instead of scattering, looking for what people said etc.
The new forums would get a work out if senators actually got on and talked about things for the community at large. The same also goes with the "discussion" pm for senators, if more people put in there would be more to talk about but it seems that still there are people who want the 5 gold and be sheep waiting in the shadows to cast their vote on how they are told to not as to how they are thinking.
I suppose it doesn't help when the odd senator complains about having to read posts in there, then complains senate don't do anything...i don't mean you by the way mate.
Oh, sure you don't
😛
...well i am still waiting for an in-depth senate report on questions that need answers....such as - Has women's cleavage become larger each passing century?
