Edition #11 : Religion in Erepublik
Tim09
One of the most controversial things within erepublik is real life.
Sounds silly doesn’t it?
Well, that's not to say if you begin to talk about your hobby of stamp collecting you'll be bombarded with angry messages, but when it comes to discussing certain aspects of real life things can become pretty heated.
In this article and the next that I write, I will be exploring the subject of religion - that is both erepublik created religions, aswell real life religions within erepublik.
Issue 1 of 2 in the Religion series. – Real life religion within Erepublik
The game allows for political parties to be created so that people may fulfil their political desires and ideals, it also allows for Simulated Organisations to be created - and these S.O.s can be used for just about anything (as long as you stick to the rules of S.O. creation that is).
What are S.O.s used for?
Many things - Charities, banks, government organisations, and even religious organisations.
I have interviewed two organisations in the hope to find out, not only what they’re about, but also how they hope to affect erepublik.
The Roman Catholic Church http://www.erepublik.com/profile-854611.html
Based in: e-UK
Run by: Bonnie Prince Charles
Extra Info: The Roman Catholic Church S.O. has met a lot of criticism, as it was the first religious Simulated Organisation within the e-UK. The Protestant Religion S.O. shortly followed.
SBJ: What is the main purpose of the Roman Catholic Church S.O.?
The Church:
The main reason for setting it up was for to give the game a more in-depth feeling, make it more of a real life simulation for everyone. The Church is a big thing to most people in Britain, whether it be Catholic, Protestant, Anglican, etc. So thought I could turn the church into an organisation that could simulate that and help in politics. After seeing basically everyone playing the game was an atheist, I didn’t want the church involved in politics because it could cause a war.
I soon decided to make the church a place for people to show their beliefs openly and to give charitable donations and advice to people who are new and in need of help.
SBJ: Do you feel that it is ok to bring real life religion into erepublik?
The Church:
I feel that I’m doing good for the game e.g. there were only a handful of people on the [e-UK] forums daily, but thanks to my debate on the creation of religion in eRepublik it generated 1133 views and 121 comments - which you do see but not very often. It got a few new faces on the forum and generated a lot of interest in the subject. What else is there that the church could cause damage to that a normal citizen could not?
SBJ: Does your S.O.s views differ to that of most other believers of Roman Catholic Christianity?
The Church:
We believe the same things except we have a different way of running our system. The Ten Commandments are translated into e-words e.g. Thou shalt not commit eAdultery and so on.
There is no pope for now as there aren’t enough people i think to have a democratic vote. It would be an ePope who could travel and spread the Word of God and be a religious ambassador for all eCatholics.
SBJ: What benefits do you feel it will bring to erepublik?
The Church:
I feel it could, if brought to a wider audience, bring countries and citizens closer together and help form partnerships which could come in handy sometime.
Every Elections, no matter who becomes president, there will always be people who are un-happy - with the Church no matter who becomes ePope everyone would be happy because that person would be doing what all the other ePopes would have done. Spread the word of GOD.
SBJ: Do you have anything else you wish to add?
The Church:
No matter your questions send them to me and you will get a response within a couple of hours, and no matter your question you will get a reply.
May anyone who reads this be blessed. Amen.
The Protestant Religion http://www.erepublik.com/profile-1088582.html
Based in: e-UK
Run by: Intel2, William of Orange, and Bunyan.
Extra Info: It was formed as a protestant religion S.O., but William of Orange considered naming it "The Church of England or “The British Evangelical Council". All questions were answered by William of Orange and/or Intel2
SBJ: What is the main purpose of the Protestant Religion S.O.?
Protestant Religion:
Giving gifts primarily to members who are active in their jobs and in training. Gifting will also be focused on players who are struggling with the game and are in need of help. We have other purposes too. Both William of Orange and I [Intel2] believe in unity and debate, the SO will provide a basis to unite all facets of Protestantism and grow tolerance between different denominations.
SBJ: Do you feel that it is ok to bring real life religion into erepublik?
Protestant Religion:
The wars that are waged, the political battles and ideologies of real life are becoming part of eRepublik every day, so why should we not bring some good back into eRepublik?
Religion influences so many people, it controls many Countries and minds, so why should such a powerful force be so eagerly ignored? I believe that true faith brings so much more into the world, and so here is our Church.
SBJ: Do your S.O.’s views differ to that of most other believers of protestant Christianity?
Protestant Religion:
The Protestant religion SO is designed to unite all protestant believers in eRepublik. To join in membership a person must believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins and that He and God are one. There are many different secondary elements that people debate about and we accept that, but there are some things that we must believe to become members.
SBJ: What benefits do you feel it will bring to erepublik?
Protestant Religion:
We want to give help to those who need it most, and give a moral direction to the nation. Not only will it benefit members with its gifting scheme but we will also have a body to campaign for freedom of speech in the game itself. Even though we are 'religious' our point is still vital for everyone, freedom of speech should be granted to everyone who doesn't insult or instigate racial violence.
SBJ:The S.O. seems to be a sort of charity or health service for the needy rather than something aimed at the religious. Do you plan to implement any religious practises?
Protestant Religion:
Just like RL Christians, our religion compels to help the needy, as Christ did.
SBJ: Do you have anything else you wish to add?
Protestant Religion:
People should feel free to friend request or message the church, regardless of their religious or political beliefs: we want to bring benefits to all mankind and create beneficial debate about religion and faiths.
We really should say what we believe here, we honestly believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that He lived and died so that we might be forgiven for everything that we have done wrong, but that the only way to Heaven is through Jesus, John 14v6 says 'I am the way, the truth and the life, no-one comes to the Father except through me.'
So, religion within erepublik seems to be on the up. Is that a good or bad thing? Most tend to agree that bringing real life issues to a game is a bad idea – RL issues have caused war in the past, and no doubt will in the future.
I wish these S.O.s and their “followers” the best of luck, as their purpose seems to largely be to look after the well being of the people first, and preach second. That can only be a good thing, right?
I appreciate that this is a controversial subject, and so I would like to request that comments on this article remain civil. Criticism is obviously welcome, as long as it is constructive. Thank you.
My next article will be on erepublik based religions. Watch out for it.

Nice interview with some good answers, one question however of my own.
While i have no problem with religion being a person belief/morale guidance, Why is there a need for a structured Religion? Im not discriminating merely slightly concerned as to why you would feel the need to be represented as a \"Powerful force\" .
It just doesn\'t make sense that a religion like Christianity would require a group for anything OTHER than to help others and themselves in a peaceful fashion.
My Apologies If this sounds like a mere rant/argument.
I think you, me and everyone else knows why they want to be known as a \"powerful force\"...
We dont wish to be powerful, just to have the influence and support to speard the word of God.
It was not included but i mentioned that every member of the church has the same power as every other member, even the pope. The Pope is a higher represented player but dosent have any special vote or that. The main job of the pope is to travel to different countries and gain supporters and spread the debate about Religion in e-Republik.
One question i immediately want to ask is: can one be a member of both the Catholic and Protestant organisations?
And Mal, about organised religion:
I completely agree, there should be no other need for organised religion other than to help Christians learn, grow in their faith, and to help Christians help others. I think one of the major problems of Christianity over the ages has been that people have put themselves in positions where they are easily tempted by power/greed etc (as happens today with televangelists, esp in the US).
So i for one am very wary of any attempt to recreate this form of organistion
p.s. i didn\'t think you sounded ranty, and i\'m sure any questions asked in such a vein are welcomed 🙂
thou shalt not commit eAdultery?
exactly how do the ten commandments work in eRepublik?
Twat-ers, the simple answer is no. The Catholic Church in real life believes distinctly different ideas to the Protestant Church and I must presume those ideas apply within E-life too.
I believe that every society is founded in morals, everyone knows what they are and how they work. A body created to \'regulate\' it\'s members behaviour and reward good working and training activities isn\'t a big threat, it\'s not like we actually have any physical power to declare a crusade or anything, and to be elected into office requires most of the e-country to want us anyway.
So as you can see, there is nothing to worry about. We pose no threat to the e-community and we are both trying to support our members and improve our countries.
If you have any questions, please feel free to let myself or William of Orange know.

\"thou shalt not commit eAdultery?\"
Damned, now what am I supposed to do with my three eWives and two eGirlfriends (and a eBoyfriend, wink wink!)?
*Packs them up in the closet for winter*
\"*Packs them up in the closet for winter*\"
You did make sure none of them are running for mayor first, right?
Stupid. You take the dumbest, most pointless thing in the real world and try to put it in ERepublik. Religion is false. Religious people are mislead and under false beliefs
