DON'T READ THIS! Okaaaaaay. I Warned You.......
Edana Savage
After DT hurt Nith's feelings and wrote an article with his signature style, I wondered if I should jump into the fray with the whole Op/Ed thing. And after much thought I decided.....
DAMN SKIPPY
Isn't that what Op/Ed is all about?!
I needed this or I was going to explode! Especially since I've been spending most of my time in bed during my long overdue vacation.
Git yer head out of the gutter! Shameful! My computer is in my bedroom right by the bed. So you see the only place I could possibly be is in the bed.
Anyway.......
Election Time!
Let's start with the incumbent.
5n4keyes
This guy is as old as dirt. He was from the Beta generation. The only one I've seen older is Patton. This guy has seen a lot of changes in this game. He was also one of the testers for v2. Definitely a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. He has a lot of knowledge in a lot of areas.
The only problem with Snake is he is not that inspiring. At least, not this time around.
When I talk about inspiring, I am talking about someone who is willing to state a vision for the country in such a way that people can't help but be pulled in. Maybe it wasn't in the cards this term. But I feel like we missed some terrific opportunities to pull Ireland back out of the darkness and into the light. He certainly had the chance to do just that, but for some reason it didn't work. I think it's because he didn't fire up the masses.
I will give him the benefit of the doubt. Afterall, there is a LOT that goes on behind the scenes the majority will not know. I don't care what anyone says, you can't have a completely transparent government. Too much at stake. However, it would have been nice to know some things. If there was a lot of effort put in, there were not any huge results this time around.
If he gets another shot at this, I would like to know what he would do differently and what direction he is taking Ireland. Cuz right now, I'm not impressed. He can do better than what this term showed.
Dubhthaigh
*sigh*
What can I say that would not come off as biased? I can't. So I won't even try.
Dubh, is from the v1 generation. This guy was promising. Emphasis on WAS. For those of you who were here in January you know exactly what I'm referring to. I can forgive, but I can't forget and that frankly will probably be his biggest hurdle. There are too many of us who remember how unstable he was.
It first came out during my first term in office became progressively worse during my second term. And when he got into office his brief term was so bad he was impeached. He defected to GB of all places. Although, in all honesty, I was not surprised. He was a very passionate opponent to my move towards EDEN friendly countries.
History has weighed it's judgement on that time. It has been kinder to me than it was to him.
Honestly, I think he misread what the people wanted. Reading his manifesto, I still think it's more about him than Ireland. A bit unfortunate with the titling. It's unclear if he is referencing a utopian outlook as in Shakespere or Huxley's novel, a parody of the utopia which is referred to as "dystopia". I'm sorry, but I'm not a fan of Orweillian vision. lol Conscious or otherwise.....
Has he changed? I honestly don't know. I have my doubts. He has a lot more to prove to me and many others in this country.
Octavius Dryst
Ah, my dear friend and one of my first mentors. It's been a long time coming. It's a wonder he hasn't run before now. Octavius has held many positions in many administrations. He is very active in IUP, which is definitely not an easy job. Although being a PP is very different from being a CP. He has been a TD 11 fricken times! Can't have been elected that many times and not being doing something right.
He has grown alot over the last year. I think even if he doesn't win this election, it won't be the last time we see him run. He is as dedicated as they come. Always has been and always will be.
We have found ourselves on opposite sides quite often, but this has always been done with great respect. Frankly, I enjoy arguing with him. It's fun!
We have agreed on quite a few things as well, and that is just as fun. If he gets elected we will do just fine. The only reason I would not choose him over another is because he is not quite as knowledgeable in economics as another candidate. And economics is where it's at this term. If the other had not run, he would have been hands down my choice. So take that as you will.
Nogin the Nog
Christina and I have had a few chats here and there. Mostly around economics. She has always had my back and it is appreciated more than she knows. I have a tremendous respect for her knowledge of the game in particular the economics side. I really don't have anything bad to say about her. All my dealings with her have been honest and forthright. I have disagreed with her on occasion, but like with Octavius it was always done respectfully.
You can't have gotten to her level without being well rounded, dedicated, and a hardworker. She is number three in our nation. She has served as a TD, a minister, and as a soldier. She is a shrewd business woman, and has the knowledge and know how to get things done.
AND
She is what we need right now.
Plain truth, folks. No money means no wars. No wars mean we have unhappy Irish. Unhappy Irish who have no one to fight? Yup. We fight with each other. So we have to fix this economy. Who has the best skill set to do just that?
Nogin the Nog
So to recap:
How will each do in my opinion if elected?
Snake = ok
Dubh = Oh hell no.
Oct = Good!
Nogin = GREAT!
And that's how I see it.
Again, this is not meant to be unbiased at all. I'm not billing it as such. As always I encourage you to think for yourself. This is just to give you younger citizens some insight into how we old fogeys get to be the way we are. Hell, I'm practically an old woman by eRep standards, which means I can be cranky, crusty, and ramble all I want. Which I'm doing right now. So I'm gonna stop. Now.
Edana
Signing off.
P.S. I really hope Nith changes his mind about The Hammer. It's not nice to tease someone and not follow through. Just saying..........
Comments
God how I've missed your rhetoric Edana....It's good to be back! As for Dubh's section of the article I think it is perfectly fair. While you did not mention any of the good he's done for eIreland your reasons for not wanting him as president are perfectly sound and aren't based off of personal dislike of him. There is no shame in saying someone is a bad candidate if you have reasons to back it up with.
LP is not one man show. we are funs of team work, and Dubh is the man to lead this election. So dont judge us like the others. v btw
He has done some good things, I will give him that. However, he has proven once he was not fit for the CP chair. I'm not ready for him to try again until he can prove otherwise. Especially right now. Nogin has always been solid regardless of the circumstances. So she gets my nod this time.
@CJ I ain't judging you, sweetie. I just think you could have picked a better representative. I've seen a whole different side to the man, and it wasn't pretty.
Great minds etc. 😉
A pleasure as always Edana. I wouldn't mind taking you up on a couple of things though;
"Dubh, is from the v1 generation."
In fact I began playing back in Beta, where I found experience in the US and Singapore.
"He was a very passionate opponent to my move towards EDEN friendly countries."
Very untrue. I was the only congressmen who proposed to join Eden. In fact I did so twice. I opposed the war in Northern Ireland and the other fiascos around that time. In addition, as President I increased ties with those nations.
"Reading his manifesto, I still think it's more about him than Ireland."
I must confess I don't really understand this one. My manifesto is full of the directive policy that Ireland needs.
I don't think this election should concentrate on the past, as I believe we have to move forward. However, an account of my previous presidential term can be found on my wiki page for those who are interested.

Dubh, you made it yourself very hard to get elected now
You should have left to a neutral or an Eden country, not to the UK
You also let me (us) down when you were elected as CP
However, you are great with economic mechanisms and administration stuff
Going to the UK was probably a mistake, I agree. However it did have some benefits:
The experience I gained from their military system helped me a great deal in the recent IDF restructure.
Experience of their government helped me write the new constitution.
I do feel I let people down as President the first time. Not because i did nto acheive what I intended to (I feel I achieved much more), but because I allowed the harrassment and trolling to get to me. For that, I apologise.
"Snake = ok
Dubh = Oh hell no.
Oct = Good!
Nogin = GREAT!"
Could not have put it better myself.
Your endorsement warms my heart, Nephworks 😃
"Snake=ok
Dubh=Oh hell no
Oct=Good
Nogin=Great!"
Could not have put it better myself x2
VOTED!
For the record, it was going to follow through. Something changed..
Oh no! Why did I read it?! You warned me. But we didn't listen!!!
