Do You Remember Canada?

Day 3,737, 08:58 Published in Australia Croatia by Nikola barun Jurisic

Closing in on 2 years ago, Canada was under occupation by Albania and was one of the first countries to feel the wrath of Colin Lantrip’s arsenal of cash and comrades. In a joint operation to liberate them; Portugal, Lithuania and Serbia came to their aide. Upon the expulsion of Albania from the region, Serbia hung around at Canada's request to provide them with regional support should they face any other invasion.

Within a short time period, the notorious Resource Wars took place which was at a great advantage to Canada whose large land mass and isolated regions provided ideal for resources which had to be outside the radius of where such resource already existed. This game mechanic proved to be most useful in securing Canada the rarest resource Neodymium (house bonus) in the region Prince Edward Island. Working with Serbia who had completed their resource allocation early on, Canada began to pick up the most valuable weapons resources which they placed into Northwest Territories. These resources were:

Rubber (30% bonus)
Saltpeter (25% bonus)
Oil (20% bonus)
Aluminium (15% bonus)

Canada also secured 85% Food Bonus in Alberta as well as securing a 90% Housing Bonus in Nunavut giving them the potential to have one of the most powerful economies in the game.

In a move of protectionism, Canada struck agreements with Romania and Serbia – the two superpowers of Asteria. This agreement saw both countries make lump sum payments to Canada totalling 210,000 (Serbia: 150,000/Romania: 60,000). Alongside both above-mentioned countries taking their resource region, they occupy an additional 2 regions each to maintain their foothold in the region. One region being Newfoundland & Labrador (currently 54 days under occupation) which was Canada’s focal point for numerous wars over the years with Ireland and the United Kingdom. However, under the current system in place, Canada now only border the USA on their southern border as well as friendly nation France through the regions Brittany and Pays de Loire via Nova Scotia. Thus, Canada has no hostile nations on their borders.

This hasn’t prevented them from engaging in wars, Canada has made use of their airstrike button over the past year which has seen them launch one airstrike in the past 6 months on alliance member Estonia. In the past year however, they have launched a further 3 airstrikes, two on another alliance member, Netherlands, and one on Egypt. Canada remains in Netherlands after near 8 months in a Training War arrangement. From my own observations, the past year Canada has only engaged in one real war and that has been with Egypt which was over 10 months ago.

In conclusion and in review, it is my understanding that Canada has become a defunct nation in this game by selling off their regions for what is now the price of one pack. War does not come easily as nobody dares invade them due to repercussions of encroaching upon Romania and Serbia’s prized colonies, while Canada does not take it upon themselves to capitalise on their Puppet State status to occupy and colonise other nations – instead they lay dormant, hardly signing MPPs as they have no need. Their current CP Exalted Druid in his most recent article has expressed Canada is not a neutral country and is in the Serbia/Romanian camp but one can not question if this is down to them being trapped as allies with these nations. Canada simply can not cancel this agreement without turning themselves into a battleground which could become a pivotal point in global politics.

The next question would be how well Romania and Serbia would take it if they were asked to leave after nearly two years comfortably sitting in these regions – would they refuse and show Canada that their friendship was not and never was about friendship or would the oblige peacefully and protect Canada from the rush of enemies to occupy their resource rich nation?

One thing is for certain – Canada is boring.
