Do You Like to Gamble?
Rick von Ruger
Pick five numbers 1-10 and you could win up to $10,000 USD!
- Lottery tickets cost $5 USD each.
- If you match one number, You win $5
- If you match two numbers, you win $10
- If you match three numbers, You win $100
- If you match four numbers, You win $1,000
- If you match all five numbers, You win the jackpot of $10,000
How Does it Work?
When you purchase a ticket, you may either pick five numbers, or have them randomly picked for you. The numbers must be in a certain order, and must be either a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10. Heres an example:
7-7-1-10-2
Imagine that these are your numbers. Nobody else may have the same five sequential numbers as you. When the winning numbers are drawn, if you have the same number in the same position as the winning numbers, it counts as a 'match'. Heres an example of what the winning numbers might look like:
10-5-1-4-2
Your ticket matches two numbers (the third number, 1, and the fifth, 2). Note that the 10 does NOT count, since it is not in the same position in both sets of numbers. Since you match two numbers, you win $10.
How do I Purchase a Ticket?
You can purchase a ticket by donating $5 (USD only please) to me. Leave a comment or send a message with the numbers you would like, otherwise I will randomly generate five numbers for you. You may also pick your numbers via IRC in the channel #eLotto
If you send me any currency other than USD, I will send it back and your numbers will not be validated. If you pick specific numbers and those numbers are already taken, i will send back your money and your numbers will not be validated. You may send it back and request new numbers OR allow me to randomly generate your numbers.
When will I know if I won?
The winning numbers will be drawn out of a hooker's underpants on Wednesday August 31, 18:00 eRep time (a week from today). I will post a new article with the winning numbers, as well as the number of winners. The prize money will be sent out after the posting of the article. Please be patient, however, since it may take some time to donate to everyone.
What if i forget my numbers by next week?
It's cool, ill have all the people who donated and their numbers saved in a speadsheet.
Whats the catch?
Huh? You mean the catch of the day? I dont even like fish, dude... But you have a 50% chance of matching at least one number. If you match one number you will essentially win your money back. If you match more than that, you will make an easy profit. If you dont match any numbers, well, better luck next time I guess. You can rest easy, however, knowing that it was only $5. Furthermore, I pledge (at least) half of all profits I make (IF I make any) from this extremely time and resource intensive venture towards helping newer players, or donating to eUS Government programs which help out the newbs. Even if you lose, you can be helping support the newbs. Doesnt that feel nice?
Also, as a disclaimer, my eMoney funds are not unlimited. There is a distinct possibility that I will LOSE money from doing this. If people win more money than I collect from selling tickets, I will use my RL money (dear god please I hope this doesnt happen) to buy some gold and pay the winners. I accept sole financial responsibility for this. Lets hope it doesnt bite me in the ass.
What else? (before i rush to buy a bunch of tickets to try and bankrupt you muahahaha >
😃)
Uh, i think that just about wraps it up. Oh, maybe it would be a good idea to limit the number of tickets per person... Maximum 100 per player, please.
Awww....
lol
Good luck and happy gambling!

give me vodka and i will gamble
give me money for a ticket so i can go buy some vodka
"But you have a 50% chance of matching at least one number."
I think your math is a bit shaky
You have a 50% chance of calling a coin flip.
You have a 10% chance of guessing a number between 1 -10
If you have 5 numbers to pick, Rod, that's 50% of the 10. I'm assuming that that means that they don't have to be in the correct orders.
Also, why u no let me use canadabucks????
@ Rod Damon
You have a 1/10 chance for each number you choose. You have 5 numbers. 1/10 + 1/10 + 1/10 + 1/10 + 1/10 = 5/10 = 1/2 = 50%
@Brad
He is setting it up just straight not boxed (for lottery fans)
So you have a 1:10 chance on the first number
then a 1:10 chance for each of the following
so you have 5 1:10 chances to get 1 right
to get all five right is a 1:100,000 chance
@ Bradley Reala
Because i dont have any canadabucks to pay your winnings with.
Use eMuricah moneys in eMuricah kthxbai
@Rick
Probability does not work that way
each number is independent from the others.
Think of it in terms of 5 coin flips
1/2+1/2+1/2+1/2+1/2= 2.5
@ Rod
Quit trying to over analyze the odds, theyre pretty simple.
Send me money and pick some numbers. lol
Never bet without knowing the odds
@Rod
1/2+1/2+1/2+1/2+1/2=2.5
just like
1/10+1/10+1/10+1/10+1/10=0.5
0.5 = 50/100 = 50%?
Guys, Rod is right. Since the numbers have to be in the exact same spots, they are independent from each other, therefore it is 1:100,000 for a jackpot.
@ JasonEye21
The odds of matching all 5 are 1 in 100,000.
Thats much better than most lotteries where your odds are in the millions.
Matching 5 (although a much more rare event) falls within the set of matching 1. The odds of matching 1 are .1 + .1 + .1 + .1 + .1 the odds of matching all 5 are .1 x .1 x .1 x .1 x .1
Your chances of matching 1 or more numbers is 50%.
Your chance of matching all 5 however is .001%.
Not trying to scam anyone here, its all about luck.
meant to say matching 1 falls within the set of matching 5
as well as those of matching 4 and 3 and 2
not the other way around, durp on my part there.
Rick
What I was showing with my coin example is that with your math, you will win 250% of the time. Sort of impossible.
!??
Rod
These aren't coins, they're like 10-sided dice.
If you were to toss 5 pennies, then record the results, and then toss 5 pennies again, you would average 2.5 matches each time.
If you toss 5 dice with 10 sides each and record the results,
then toss 5 dice again, you will average .5 matches each time.
The chance of getting one side of a coin is 1/2
The number of coins is 5 (can be represented by 5/1)
1/2 x 5/1 = 5/2
5/2 = 2.5
The chance of getting one side of a 10-sided die is 1/10
The number of dice is 5 (can be represented by 5/1)
1/10 x 5/1 = 5/10
5/10 = 0.5
I hope you can understand this
This has scam written all over it!
Pizza The Hut has posted a negative comment.
+1 for article credibility.
Rick
Using your math example. 50% of the time = 2.5
0.5 is 1/5 of 2.5 or 10% or 1:10
If getting at least 1 number right is 50%, then getting 0 right would be 50% as well
but 9/10 x 5/1 = 4.5 not 0.5
@ Rod
With all due respect, who the hell taught you to math?
1/10 x 5/1 = .5
9/10 x 5/1 = 4.5
WHICH MEANS
You will AVERAGE .5 matches and 4.5 non-matches per play.
NOT 50% to match one and 450% to not match one.
Please re-evaluate your thinking about this.
