Disowning the ADSP

Day 462, 22:22 Published in Australia Australia by haugenmatt

**This article is completely and unabashedly biased**

I have been with the ADSP since its inception. It has some of the most active and intelligent members in this nation. We have pushed for legislation that, I believe, has incredibly helped Oz. We have become the majority party and now we are martyrs for it...

Why must we be the enemy? We are all pushing for what is best for Oz, we merely disagree on what that is. The ADSP has pushed for stability and growth through medicare and government training programs. This has paid off so far and can be seen in our tremendous GDP (the government can't take all the credit for that one though!). The ANP has fought valiantly for liberties and personal ventures. I believe we have caught a very fine balance. In my eyes Oz is in a very good position at the moment. So, why then is everyone upset? Much less, why blame the party who brought this prosperity? If there truly is something wrong, something so irrevocable that you cannot change it yourself, then look farther than partisan lines. You will see that legislation being passed is not riding on these partisan feelings. The Senate as a whole have been agreeing for the most part. In my recent memory there has not been a tightly contested vote and there is not one Senator I know who is so stubborn as to not approach everything with an open mind. We have come here together and we cannot simply place the blame on the ADSP.

However. I realize I am sitting here, looking at this from the top. Maybe it's time I see things from afar. I realize how easy it is to get caught up in everything and politics only multiplies this. I know, I know, I know. To say I have honestly been 100% satisfied would also be a lie. To be honest, I view the boycotts as not only authoritarian, but infringing on the rights of business owners. Quite the opposite of what the ADSP I know believes in. Our party is center-left, libertarian--not authoritarian. Our constitution states that we respect the rights of business owners as well. I am not communist and I know the ADSP isn't either, so what's with the direct control? I have no problems with asking them to change, but demanding? boycotting? It's all crossing the line...

I know there are some in my party who will not agree with me and by no means do I intend to represent my party in this article. Cottus, I stand behind you because I elected you. I don't agree with what you are doing, but I voted you in. This is a democracy and everyone is here because they were voted here. We must live with the consequences of our actions and if this one problem is the only reserve I have about your terms in office then I feel pretty good.

We have elected our officials to where they are. If you are not happy with what they are doing, then simply DO NOT RE-ELECT THEM. But please do not complain. I realize that we all have minor issues and disagreements at times, but can anyone honestly say they are unhappy with how far we've come? We are establishing ourselves and we are back on the map, WITH 3 TERRITORIES! That's only 3 more than we had a few months ago! It's an exciting and prosperous time. Keep the broader picture in mind when you go to election tomorrow. Whether you support the ADSP, ACP, AIP, ANP, or AAA (hahaha who would do that?) be sure they are the one you want making those votes on the senate floor. I realize that I am writing to about all of 5 active citizens not currently in a position to run for Senate, but to you I really hope you take interest in this and read each candidate's plank and decide from there. Behind every avatar is a real person.
