Day 5344
1.) Presidential Briefing.
2.) Dawn of a New Era.

Presidential Briefing

President Paul Proteus Points to the Press

President Proteus kicked off his Administration promptly, calling an all-hands conference of cabinet ministers -- including radical iconoclast and White House gardener Pfenix Quinn, who has once again been appointed as the all-powerful "Peoples' Media Czar of all the North American Statelets".

Breaking with tradition, and in line with his campaign promises to bring an unbearable lightness of being into into the dull routines of the Executive, the cabinet met outdoors rather than in the musty-smelling gymnasium favored by the outgoing Kody5 Administration.

The team met at midnight eRep time, at precisely the moment when the Wand of Power passed to the newly-elected President. Surrounded by mounds of roses and daisies, cornflowers, hyacninths, as dozens of fireflies flickered in the moonlight, holding the glowing wand, Proteus quizzed each of the ministers regarding their plans for the upcoming month, challenging them to give it their all, and providing some specific suggestions.

Here are the highlights...

Technology

DMJohnson beeped in from the engine room to report that the cause of the inter-dimensional flux clogging up the plasma bubbles in the intermix chambers has finally been identified. Something to do with how scrabman's attempt to engage the hyperdrive beyond Warp 9 back in 2009 left a tiny residue of Alderaanian rubber on the coils, which had built up over time. DMJ's engineering team used some Mr. Clean on it and now the warp drives are fully operational.

DMJ also reported that the leading roles in Gummnint Discord have been transitioned to the new team. He then blinked out for well-deserved vacation exploring the secret underground base on the 4th moon of Rakal, in Cardassian space.

Media

PQ promised to write stuff, some of it possibly true.

Vice

Like Simmias who was unafraid to question Socrates, VP Arrden jumped in without even being prompted, asking tons of questions.

Like: Why don't we have more epics? Why do we have more training wars than there are Hindu deities? How can we direct more damage against CODE?

Then he burped rather loudly, commenting that the D1 Housing Program gives him gas.

Foreign Affairs

MoFa Herr Vootsman, who is also Supremo of the Asteria alliance, was asked by CPPP to review the status of our relations. He also responded to several of Brother Arrden's queries.

He reported that, even though some players in a few allied countries harbor RL anti-USA sentiments, the e-USA has developed a good reputation among the Asteria and Hydra alliances for helping out in air battles, covering night-time fighting and hosting training wars. He expressed the hope that additonal TWs could be set up with Mexico.

Regarding the lack of weekly epics, Mr. Vootsperson noted, in so many words, that ongoing real wars have a way of determining the path through the realm of necessity. In other words, a planned epic with a partner could potentially draw fighters away from real epics against real enemies. He shared words to the effect that, although we'd like to enter a realm of total freedom with respect to maximimizing farming opportunities, there is a button-pushing dialectic that has to be understood and handled in a balanced manner.

He also pointed out that having lots of TW's is a big plus for many players and that damage in real wars is done mostly by high-powered units who aren't much bothered by farming anyway.

Derpiness

Harvery R Specter and Derphoof were instructed, in no uncertain terms, to go out and make the e-universe a happier, more fun place. As far as this reporter could tell, one of them had already passed out drunk and the other one was too fascinated by the fireflies, if you catch my drift, to say anything coherent.

Dawn of a New Era

Sun rises over a new age of happiness and joy

After the briefing was over, most of the other ministers wandered off into the night while Derphoof snored and made occasional horsey noises.

Your loyal and sober gardener asked the new president if he'd like to stay a moment more and maybe share any personal thoughts on how things might develop as we move into the coming months.

He shared the following remarkable story with me...

"The night before I took possession of the wand of power, I had a strange dream.

"All was in suspense, calm and silent, motionless, still. I felt like the expanse of the heavens was completely empty.

"Then I imagined the first talk. This is why I called this briefing at night, under the dark sky.

"It was like nothing existed yet. No e-animals, e-trees, e-caves or e-forests. Only the empty heavens. The face of the New World had not yet appeared. Only a vast calm sea and the expanse of sky. Nothing moved. Nothing made a noise.

"Only the calm water, alone and tranquil. Nothing existed.

"There was only still and silence in the dark night. Then the great forebearers started to gather by the water, surrounded by light. Justinious McWalburgson III, Uncle Sam, Desertfalcon, scrabman, Jewitt, Jamarcus, Osmany Ramon, Woxan, Gaius Julius, Jude Connors, Bradley Reala, CivilAnarchy, Astra Kat G -- one by one they were called and emerged from behind the green and blue feathers of the great speckled bird -- all the great e-sages, e-thinkers, e-leaders from our history.

"And then the words came. They talked quietly together in the darkness, in the night. They talked and talked and considered. Finally, they agreed, uniting their words and their thoughts.

"As dawn broke, it became clear to them that a new kind of player must appear. So they planned the creation and growth of the e-woods and e-thickets, the birth of new life, the creation of new generation of players.

"That's how it was all arranged in the darkness of the night, in the heart of heaven."

Afterwards we sat quietly, staring up at the stars, smiling at the fireflies. Accustomed to sleeping out in the garden, I soon dozed off. When I awoke the next morning, there was a fresh sea breeze in the air.

Which was odd, considering how far Kentucky is from the sea.

Until next time! -- PQ
