CSIS V4.0: Starts now.

CSIS has been there for a very long time, from the time when eRepublik was still in its invite-only Beta phase. Since then, CSIS has evolved, has adapted to the game mechanic changes, to the eSociety changes and its requirements. CSIS has had its ups and downs, its moments of glory (unfortunately rare), and its dark periods.

But since the recent changes in eRepublik, in the military and economy modules, with the removal of fight stats and donations, CSIS has hardly changed, well at least not publicly. CSIS is no more adapted to this game, hence the need for a new CSIS. And you might have noticed, with every new CSIS comes a new directorship.

And that is why I must leave.... again 😉
In fact, I have presented a couple of days ago my resignation from the position of CSIS Director to President Jacobi.
Reason for resignation? I have already given all I had to CSIS. I am not the one to take CSIS to the next level. CSIS has a bad image today, and it is partly due to some of the decisions I took, or didn't take. I admit it, I have made some mistakes. And CSIS is now an old institution, with an old director. This is why I am no longer fit for this position.
CSIS needs a new breath, a second chance, and I hope my resignation will bring that.
Besides, I am not as active in eRepublik as before, due to my loss of interest in this game, and I am thinking of taking a short break from eRepublik soon.

The new CSIS Director has been chosen in that context.
Two days ago, President Jacobi nominated Arche8, current CSIS Deputy Director, to replace me as the new Director, and a couple of hours ago, Congress has confirmed this nomination.

It is now time to congratulate Arche8 for his promotion to CSIS Director, for a term of 4 months. Congratulations Arche8, and good luck!

And with Arche8, comes a new wave of ideas aiming to rebuild the CSIS, to build a CSIS which is more effective, more transparent, and more adapted to today's eSociety.

Arche8 has told me about his ideas for the new CSIS.
The new CSIS will have a better contact and communication with the outside and with Congress. In Arche8's words:
"CSIS can "oversee" canadian security, but that utlimately the "security effort" would be diffuse in the canadian society and not just in CSIS hands. [...] a bunch of dedicate agents can NOT protect the whole country, even if they work hard."
The new CSIS will collaborate closely with the CAF who can provide the manpower needed for operations.
In other words, the new CSIS will be more open to the Canadian community.

I took the liberty to quote Arche8's post in Open Door Congress, detailing his view of the new CSIS:

"Well, CSIS duty is to protect eCanada from any external and internal threats. Large role with few ressources 😛

My priority would be the creation of the CIC (Canadian and Immigration Canada). If possible, this subsidiary branch of CSIS would be directly on eCanada forum so the communication between the Congressmen, who accept immigration requests, and the agents who do the background check could be easier. Furthermore, CIC agents would not have a secret identity, so they will have the possibility to contact the player they are checking to "interrogate" him and have a better idea if his request can be approved or not.

Communication between CSIS and the eCanada should be improve. I'll try to write at least one article per month to explain what the CSIS is doing (with no details, of course 😉 ) and to report regularly to Congress any significant CSIS actions, as long it doesn't menace agents identity or work.

Finally, the changes in the game (the worst was the donation lists removal) have been though for CSIS and we generally lack "raw" intels. One solution I see may be to create two Divisions in CSIS, one "unofficial" with the operatives and analysts who would keep their secret identity and one "official" with agents who do not have a secret identity. Those agents would be usefull in two way: 1) they can interrogate directly suspects during investigation with a complete neutrality and 2) they can be contact by any citizen who come across something suspicious.

The general goal of these changes would be to enlarge the "security effort" to the entire canadian society. CSIS alone, even with enough dedicates agents, can not defend eCanada, so we have to improve the cooperation on Security matters between CSIS, Military (CAF and TCO), Government and Congress."

These are strong ideas, that I totally support. However, their implementation is most difficult, and will require a lot of discussion.
This is why I wish the best of luck to Arche8, and hope that Congress and the entire government of eCanada with its institutions collaborates with him in order to achieve this goal.

Good luck Arche8!

Farewell,
marcchelala - ex-CSIS Director

CSIS V4.0: More transparent and open CSIS. Better collaboration, higher efficiency. [Notable Directors: Arche8]
