CP Entry - Media in eRepublik [QN]
hawkerhunter07
Media can be considered as the most important feature in eRepublik. The Media is like the glue that sticks all the other eRepublik features together. Without media, citizens wouldn’t be aware of what is happening in the New World, they wouldn’t be informed of the parties and candidates platforms. They wouldn’t be aware of a new war starting, and citizens wouldn’t know each other.
The problem in Media in eRepublik is that it is too basic. The Media sector needs improvement. So, this is what I propose:
1. Categorizing articles:
In the News section, there would be an option that allows you to choose what kind of article you want to read. Fancy an Interview? You would choose the Interview tab, and therefore get all the latest interviews, locally and internationally. Prefer something funny? Just click the Satire tab. This would also include a Language Filter.
2. Adding the newspaper name to the Top 5:
The Top 5 articles in the Home Page only show you the title of the articles, and the number of votes. What should be added is the name of the Newspaper under the title, so the reader would know who did it. This way the citizen, when seeing the article title and the newspaper name would say: “Oh. A Quick News article. That should be good. I’ll read it”, or “Ow. Another ‘Baldwinian’ propaganda. That must be bad.”
3. Establish a Writer’s Association:
Right now, for your article to be read, you need to get votes. So, someone with 3-4 organizations can easily receive several votes in a few minutes, and promote his article. Even if the article isn't really good. That's why, to counter that, a Writer’s Association would be established in each country, constituted of the best journalists in the country. Its mission would be to improve the quality of Media in the country, choose the top 5 newspapers of the month, the best article of the week, remove the spam articles, create a Newspaper Rating, etc… The ability to vote from organizations should be removed as well.
4. Other:
What can also be done is re-implement the Newspaper Description feature that was available in beta. The Newspaper Stats feature that allows the Press Director to see the evolution of subscriptions, and some other statistics should also be implemented. Finally, we realize that although the articles increase the writer’s popularity, this one doesn’t gain anything else from that. And advertising feature should be implemented, which would allow someone to advertize in some newspapers, in exchange for some CAD. This way, the more articles are read, the more money the writer wins.
Some of these features are “unofficially” available, like the advertising option, some writers are adding links and small advertisements, or the Writers’ Association (The Writers’ Guild of Canada) but these are not in-game features, and therefore their effect is limited.

Comments
So thats what the Writers' Guild of Canada does... You vote for each others articles to get them more votes, and bump them up. 🙂
Good ideas, although #2 might be pointless. It would be nice to see who wrote the article. But if it's in the top 5 articles, chances are your gonna read it anyways to see why so many voted for it (other than people just voting for it to do something.) But your probably going to read it anyways.
When I go to the news section, where you can see who wrote the articles. I usually read the top articles anyways, even if I see it was written by someone who couldn't write a good article for their life. I just want to see why it was voted up so much. Now that doesn't mean I read the whole article, but I'll skim through it, and then read the comments. If the comments are good, then I'll read the article more thoroughly.
Good article entry Marc. I agree with each one of these ideas, I think that they would all be beneficial to Canada's media system.
Judge #1
40/50
This article suggests some interesting ideas for reform of the media module of eRepublik and the author clearly demonstrates knowledge of the field. I liked the suggestions for filters and paid advertisements and think both would raise the calibre of in game writing. The article is well presented and the points being raised are valid but I would have preferred a more lively approach for the quarter finals.
Judge #2
Grammar/Stylistics:
This article was well written and has a good flow (including the order of the proposals) with no grammatical errors. For a title/list like that try using the bold command to emphasise the headings.
Persuasiveness/Veracity:
Presents several good ideas then explains the thinking behind them in an easy to understand manner.
Creativity/Originality:
The ideas presented are brilliant and would vastly improve the media sector. Although the ideas themselves may not be original they have been brought together creatively and explained differently, making it new.
Total: 45/50
Final Total: 85/100
😮 I lost! 🙁
Good match Marcc, and good article.
I agree, if theses features were implemented running a newspaper would be much more fun
