Congressmen announcements
BuzzyTheCat
Good evening Israel,
At the request of some congressmen I have created a Congress Debate Center on the official Israeli forums. If you are a congressman and you have an account of the forums, you already have been given access. The following congressmen do not have forum accounts and I would ask that their respective PP’s contact them and get them signed up so I can grant them access…
Likud-
Avigdor
Arbemeod
100Memet
Yoav_Israel
Sbelly
Mokenld
Russell Wangy
IWP-
Intereza
Ma Tai
Eyal Rev
Kadima-
Dan Bohemis
Millenia-
Con Dingo
If your name is on that list, but you in fact do have a forums account, please PM me. If you didn’t register on the forums with your in game name, I wouldn’t have found you.
I am also going to ask all Congressmen to please donate the 5 gold they received from the medal to the Official Bank of Israel. Gzen has been working hard on getting us a Q4 defense system and is very close to a deal with the supplier. So far the negotiations have gotten us to a price point of 220 gold. If all congressmen donate their 5 gold, that means we are only 20 gold away from purchasing a DS, which can safely and easily be donated from the OBOI treasury. This will also be the very first debate topic for congressmen on whether we should purchase the DS or if we should keep saving for a Q5 hospital instead.
Also, in response to my previous tax article, I have decided to put off the grain tax for right now. With the new rules of congress and the forum, it will take 48 hours (24 hours of debate and 24 hours of voting) to get a single proposal passed… this means that an entire term (almost, 24 days to be exact) will need to be dedicated to changing the taxes… and that is only if we can come to an agreement in the allotted time. If we run into a ton of problems with no one coming to an agreement in the debate period, changing the taxes could take months 🙁
I urge all congressmen to put in some extra time here and work to make this a quick process. With a congress cycle being only 28 days we really don’t have time to waste on anything. I have also put up the first debate topic, the defense system, on the forum for debates to begin on it. However instead of it only being 24 hours of debate, it will be 48 hours so we have some time to get the unregistered congressmen registered and granted access.
Also, I ask all congressmen, and everyone in general to please subscribe to my newspaper. With time constraints it might take 12 hours for one of my articles to get into the top 5… that is 12 hours of wasted time we do not have the luxury of waiting on.
Thank you,
BuzzyTheCat

Babahahah I remember with Sadeh when we first discovered OBOI; 😛 Bahahaha, Just read that outloud if you dont get it
I agree with this system, and we should try to work with what we have. I think we need to talk seriously about updating to a more powerful/dynamic forum program with an easier to remember URL.
I don't know if we will ever reach the potential to have useful forums until then.
Switching forums on such a massive scale would be a nightmare... the Israeli forums have over 1300 people registered on them including foreign diplomats and friendly countries Representatives.
Most people just set a bookmark for the forums so their address really has no impact on them at all. But trying to reach 1000+ people in order to switch forums over, and having to give each person different permissions again would not only take forever, we would end up losing a ton of people in the process.
We had an "updated" forum for about 2 weeks at one point until it became clear that almost no one wanted to switch over.
It really would not be a nightmare at all as:
1) No average eIsraeli uses forums.
2) It doesn't have an easy to remember URL, you can say that you can just bookmark it, but it's about point of ease for not just established users but newer ones. No one remembers it and one knows about it besides a select few.
3) I don't think your point about "updated" forum is true. That project never reached finalization due to various factors, none of which are what you are implying.
4) Lots of countries have done it that are far far larger than us and it is fine.
Do you have a free service in mind which allows the administrative tools that Erandia does?
If we want something like eIsrael.com/.net/.org we need to pay real money for that like the US does. Of all the free forums that I know of, almost none of them allow the administrative control that Erandia does.
Also, if we do decide to do something like this, I am going to need help emailing 1300 people and letting them know the forums have move. Our forums aren't simply for Israeli's... we would also have to contact various governments and their ambassadors and tell them of the change, we would need to transfer roughly 200 topics to the new forum, etc.
Yes its possible... and it is more work than I think anyone realizes. But if you guys want it done, I guess we can vote on it.
Donate the gold for crying out loud! Not enough has been donated!
I know of a free service that offers a format of forum far superior to the one being used at the moment. More modern, more features, and better capability. I am fully aware of what the process will be.
While I think that buying a domain should be a goal in the future, it is not necessary to accomplish what I say. The project is not as big actually, as you make it out to be. I would say we are talking about a matter of a week/week and a half to have it up and running. Changing official location to people such ambassadors and what have you is not all that huge, as like I say, no one uses it anyway.
I do and don't agree with you Jeff. A lot of people actually do use the forums though they don't always post. Also just so you know, you cant see all the boards on the forum... In total there are 25 boards that would need to be moved/merged, 7 embassies, another 5 ambassadors notified of the change, and roughly 200 people who would need to re register and be given special accesses.
It is doable, I don't see a point in it, but if that is what people want, then I will do my best to get it going.
If this is more about structure, the current forums could be restructured to a more friendly format.
I checked around, and there is a way I would support this whole thing and that is if we could get RL money donations to purchase a domain name, and host a website and forum all on the same site.
ErepublikIsrael.com is $9.99 a year, or .net is $8.99 a year
Hosting for the site can either be an economy plan for $56.88 a year or a "deluxe" plan for $79.68 a year. The we would need to license forum software. The best forum software I have found is IP.Board by Invision which is $10.00 a month.
So yes, if we could possibly come up with $210 in RL donations per year, I would fully support the idea simply because eventually we will need a real website/forum anyways.
I guess we will just have to agree to disagree, and as I said, the domain and site comes later. I will probably do it eventually on my own dime. It`s not a lot of money.
We could have a perfectly good provider with phpbb3 which is pretty much on par with Invision, and perhaps I even like it more just because I am boards with both but more used to PhpBB which is free.
