Congressional Platform - February 2009

Day 458, 15:54 Published in USA USA by John Wycliffe

Citizens of Maryland, it’s that time of the month. On the 25th of February, the citizens of the United States of America will again head to the polls to elect who represents them in Congress.

DOMESTIC ISSUES
SUPPORT Workers – we need to be able to provide jobs for low-skill workers. There are several private sector philanthropists doing this very well, but we may someday need a governmental, temporary, alternative, although I hope this won't be necessary.
SUPPORT Small Businesses – we need small companies to train up the new erepublik players so that our nation can grow. These businesses must be supported by tax and tariff polices that they can endure and proper.
SUPPORT American Businesses – we want our businesses operating at highest productivity and producing the best goods for the best workers. This doesn't necessarily mean absurdly high tariffs, but it doesn't mean absurdly low ones either. Tariffs should be high enough to protect American industry, but low enough to allow...
SUPPORT International Competition – while we want American goods to be the best, to be the best priced, we need competition, something that is sometimes lacking in the American economy.
SUPPORT PANEC – the income tax may be a bit high, but after much deliberation, this is the compromise that the great debaters who comprise the initials of the bill have come to, and I see it as close to a consensus as we can get.

LEGISLATIVE ISSUES
SUPPORT The USWP – I am proud of my party and support it in Congress, including my chairing of the Government Affairs Party Platform Committee this past month, which you can find on the USWP forums if you're interested soon.
SUPPORT Congressional Organization – our current Congress has become somewhat better at organization, but also somewhat worse. There has been a lot done for the sake of transparency and records, but I believe it can be streamlines still further.
SUPPORT Active Congressmen – we need active Congressmen. Every proposal should be voted on by every Congressman. Those who are failing to remain active should be voted from office.
SUPPORT The President of the United States – I did not vote or campaign for our current President, but he is still the President.

Foreign Policy
SUPPORT Atlantis – but make sure that the United States maintains its rightful place within it, and reorganize it if necessary to fit better the needs of the United States and member nations.
SUPPORT India – in its fight against imperialist forces in Indonesia

Military
SUPPORT War – it allows the advancement of our citizens and stimulates growth. It is permissible and advisable as long as it is not imperialistic.
SUPPORT War Games – this is perhaps the best example of war I support. Battling with allies to level up our soldiers and provide training is greatly beneficial to both parties.
SUPPORT Military Reform – I believe our military organization has been improving since the last elections, and I hope it will continue to do so.
