Congress Donations and Some Ideas

Day 675, 15:54 Published in Singapore Philippines by iLord Solomon

Two main things to talk about in this article.

One is the sort of tradition we started last year of donating the 5 gold from the Congress Medal to eSingapore. I know that this is a tradition in some other eCountries (Such as Malaysia) and it's purely optional but if all 10 Congressmen donate their 5 gold that's +50 Gold into the government's coffers. Just a reminder of this option to support Singapore.

The other thing was a response to Relorian's completely correct point that a lot of the new members don't really have any solid ideas. I, for one, didn't really even put up a presentation. To remedy this, I spent some time brainstorming some possible focuses for the next month.

1. Sol Wargames?

Last I heard, these were really expensive (Around 12 gold?) and with the cheaper PEACE Wargames going on, it might be in our interest to focus on synchronizing the two Wargames again (For 24 hour coverage), or to abandon it all together (We can technically still get daily coverage if it's timed right since we can just strive to fight twice in each war, before and active the server reset.

2. Inviting

There's a lot of active people in Singapore and I don't think it's too wild to assume that quite of few of us are active in other communities. With a minimal amount of work, I feel that Singapore can attract many new players through these communities. Like all I did on AoPS was to post a thread with a short description of the game and the movement started gathering momentum, especially as more active members such as Mewto55555 got involved. I feel that it will not be difficult for each eSingaporean to strive to just spread the word about eRepublik around.

As I have reiterated before, each invited player that reaches Level 6 is 5 gold into Singaporean wallets, as well as possibly another consumer that needs to buy food, gifts, weapons. We can get massive amounts of gold if everyone invites only a few players. Additionally, if your invitee doesn't reach Level 6, it's not the end. Mewto devised an excellent solution to this dilemma - since you get 1 XP every time you eat, all you have to do is stock the player's inventory with the appropriate amount of food in order to push them to Level 6. This may take a while but even if you have to use 35 Q1 Foods, you can still make profit.

In short, how this relates to government is that we need to come up with better ways to hook people in. Mewto and I have both created our own opening invitation prompts but we definitely could need other ideas that do not share our internet demographic. I feel that the easiest way to bolster our economy is to increase our population, and so I feel this should be a major focus.

3. Accountability?

I know there was some dispute in Woshi's term over how we were to evaluate Congress Members but (Inform me if I'm wrong) but I don't think any system was laid out at the end. I do feel we need some sort of peer evaluation of Congress Members but my experience on this topic is limited because I've never actually seen what Congress Members must do (Other than the obvious mechanical obligations).

What I do think is needed is some accountability for voting certain ways on non-trivial proposals. Like for a proposal that was unanimously decided in favor of on the forums, a "nay" vote was still cast (Although we could likely guess who...). I propose that we need some type of accountability system so we can log how congress men vote and the public can view this records when making their decisions at election time.

Again, I don't actually have a good grasp on the degree of controversy or communication over proposals so this may not turn out to be necessary, but it's just something to consider.

Yeah, it's not much, but I don't really have lots of strong opinions yet. I'm hoping that I might pick up some more experience as I continue my eLife 😃.
