Citizenship and Statehood

Day 616, 21:42 Published in USA USA by St.John McCloskey

Our eNation has reached a critical point, a time of crisis. We are being invaded on multiple fronts. Enemies have bulled past the threshold and into our homes. Many eAmericans are trapped in occupied territory. Many may be stuck there semi-permanently due to the new citizenship module coming down the pipe.

Nontheless, I believe that this module is worth celebrating. It is a change in the rules of the game, which means a shift in our Citizen's very nature, this is something to embrace.

"The only constant is change" -Isaac Asimov

"It is common sense to take a method and try it. If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something." -F.D.R

To resist change is ridiculous. Things cannot get better if things stay the same. This change should be welcomed and examined. The citizenship module will change a lot. This is a wonderful example of an instance in which prejudices might continue, although this time, the prejudices may be from the ePast to the eFuture, instead of the real world into eRepublik.

We must not forget what a PTO was, how to defend ourselves against them, or what PTOs have done. On the other hand, we must not misjudge these new rules by applying old ideas to them. We shouldn't waste resources defending ourselves from impossibilities. We must learn from the past, but not allow it to cloud our judgment. Experience should be a lens, something to enhance our vision, not something to interfere with it.

This new module can and should increase nationalism. I'm sure that with the intelligent base of active players on eRep, this nationalism will never reach the level of zealousy, and will always use the nationalism as a tool of emotional health and pride. It will give us a sense of national identity that was not there before. Although we've all said we were proud to be eAmericans, until now we've had no concrete recognition of this in the game.

We have always been this nation, and this nation has always been us, but now we are branded with it. Now, not only are we part of the nation, but the nation is now part of us.

"And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country". -J.F.K

What can WE do for US?
