Citizen
If there is one quote that needs to be applied to eRepublik its the following "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" - JFK. The majority of Americans start their elife barely getting by, working the cheapest jobs, barely feeding themselves. Then they start to evolve, the medals start coming in and so does the gold. Gold is either spent, saved or invested in some type of business. They also start fighting in wars and get politically involved. They either join an organization or in some cases start their own. They start to climb up the corporate latter and so does their pay, eventually they join the mainstream of society, not a noob not a tank, somewhere between level 16 and 20. Some will seek a political life, other join the military.

Through their whole lives they have been paying taxes, doing the bare minimum for their country. Now when a choice has to be made virtually everyone falls into one of three categories. The first group of people don't think twice about, they turn their back and continue their lives as if nothing of importance took place. The second group will stop to think about it, take a closer look at it and ponder their options but in the end they will, like the first group, choose to avoid it and go on living. The third group is the exception, they barely have to stop to think, they do it with a willing heart and with the knowledge that they are making a difference, they don't brag about it, they don't boast of their actions, they are satisfied with the feeling that comes with giving back to their country.

I'm talking about being a citizen. Every American thinks they are a citizen, but the truth is that in reality America has far less citizens then what the books may say. Its when the need for mentors comes by that you decide to be a citizen or not, its when donations are needed for an upcoming battle that you have to make the choice. When a few more clicks then usual is required, when you see a shout from a young player who is having trouble just keeping their wellness above 40. Its in these situations that you decide to be an asset and not a burden, the exception and not the average. Its the third group that keeps this country going. Are you an exception, a citizen??? What have YOU done for America?!?

Quote of the day - "There is nothing wrong with America that the faith, love of freedom, intelligence and energy of her citizens cannot cure." - Dwight D. Eisenhower 1890-1969

Editor's Corner - Freedom Isn't Free
We often hear this term: Freedom isn't Free. But, what does that really mean and if Freedom isn't Free, then what is the cost and who pays it? The cost is watching someone you love go away for a long period of time where there is little contact as they endure the rigors and hardships of training. The cost is watching someone you love serve for pay that doesn't always cover what it takes to live a standard of living most civilians enjoy and suffering a financial impact that can negatively alter a military family's prosperity for a lifetime.

The cost is deployment to combat. The cost is a loved one leaving whole but coming home less than whole, physically, mentally or both. The cost is a a loved one who never returns from a mission and is never found. The cost is having to take another's life, even if they are the enemy, and living with that the rest of your life.

The cost is watching a close friend die, maybe even holding them in your arms, helpless to save them and living a life of remembering that moment and feeling guilty that it wasn't you who died instead of the close friend. The cost is a family waiting and watching 24 / 7, hoping and praying as they watch daily newscasts about our military personnel dying. The cost is a knock at the door no family wants but is a special privilege of sacrifice and if not borne by some, then who would bear it?

The cost is a lifetime of love. Freedom isn't Free and the cost is high.
