CTW - I10 - July 9th, 2012

Sorry about the delay in releasing this weeks article, I have been a bit busy in RL.

And a little celebration to start off, this is the 10th weekly article for CTW (combined with 16 shorter articles) and I think I am starting to get a grasp on the social media aspect of this game.

Apparently some other people feel the same way as I have been offered and accepted a position to be a staff writer for the WHPR! So, I officially work for the government now and I will be taking all your taxes and using them on cocaine and hookers! and I will probably just help write the 1-2 articles they publish per week, but it’s something and you gotta start somewhere!

Beyond me, Evry won the Presidency and got off to a shaky start thanks to the leak of a possible new alliance in the works right before the election. Much of the first couple days of Evry’s term have been defending the actions taken by the government right before Evry was thrown into the mess.

Beyond that, we have finally decided that Mexico needs to be wiped so we can get more resources We Like Tacos and that we need More Tacos, so we invaded Mexico.

I think I may have to rename this section to something more like what I use it for, taking a look at the map and the territories of certain countries. Eh, maybe next time it will have a different name, but enough talking.

Poland has continued to be the strongest force in Europe maintaining its 100/100 bonuses since signing a NAP with eUS after their war. Though two of their European allies are struggling, Hungary is down to just 3 regions as we speak and taking a beating from Romania. Though our in France and Germany have been struggling against Poland, they are doing pretty good against other competition. Germany now controls 7 regions mostly around Denmark though, and up in the British Isles, the French have taken 5 British territories away from the UK.

Though, Canada and the UK have started a war and the UK seems to be having an advantage and have taken over the Canadian region of Newfoundland and Labrador. Russia has had their way with the beautiful blondes in Sweden lately, conquering 6 regions in a row and leaving the Swedes with just 3 regions left. Spain and Portugal continue their fighting, though Spain seems to have a slight advantage as Portugal is down to just 3 regions at the moment.

The Middle East hasn’t really changed much, but the Battle between Turkey and Bulgaria has been dominated by Turkey lately. Cyprus, Greece, Israel and Iran continue to control the rest of the Middle East. In Asia things have stayed about the same recently, and North Korea and South Korea continue to struggle against China and Tiawan. Singapore is back on the map, with one tiny little region, and Indonesia has turned around and stopped losing regions left and right, and started to gain a couple regions from the Philippines. Argentina has squashed Chile for the moment, and Brazil continues its steady 100/100 bonuses.

Up in North America we have had some action though. Beyond the UK taking a Canadian region, the US decided to get its full 100/100 bonuses back and secure an extra set of certain types of resources in case their current resource holdings in europe ever get lost by taking over Mexico. The war has been dominated by eUS and soon it looks like the Mexicans won’t have any territories left.

If you aren’t already aware, Evry won the eUS Presidential election over GloveisLove in what was the the closest election in recent memory. There was a lot of talk from everyone for a while about this election, and then right before the election a bomb was dropped by Canadian President Rylde. eUS, eBrazil, eSpain and ePoland were talking about creating a new alliance. This caused a massive amount of mudslinging and a huge uproar from a couple foreign nations. Though, everyone needs to calm the #$%& down, as stated early on, they are just talking and sorting things out, and it was nowhere near ready to go public. So lets give them some time to sort out all the details, and then lets wait and see what becomes of this new alliance before we jump to conclusions. It’s fine to do what you can to make sure certain allies come with eUS, but the threats, the bitching, leaving eUS in protest and some of the nasty comments are a bit over the line.

Anyway, time for a little story, that if you were paying attention you may have noticed, but if you weren’t paying close attention to all the political parties you probably missed it. This story is how the Feds sort of, kind of, decided who would be the next President of the United States.

At the top of the Political world of eUS we have USWP and AMP, who don’t really like each other that much, but they do have one thing in common, both of them hate Glove! They did have to sort out who was going to run for president in their parties though, and they did this through primaries. The USWP had 3 primary candidates (Evry, Tenshibo and Civil Anarchy) while no one from the AMP wanted to run for president this month. Civil Anarchy won the USWP primary while Evry won the AMP primary (which afterwards he jumped parties to run for president as a member of the AMP), but after talking the two of them decided that Civil Anarchy would drop out of the race and throw his support behind Evry in an attempt to get both parties on the same page and get more votes.

On the other side of the election we had GloveisLove, who ran under the RLC, and had the advantage of not having to go through any primaries to become a candidate, so he went straight to campaigning for votes from other parties. He was very successful garnering support from 11 other parties! Evry did have a little bit of time and used his friendships to garner up the support of 3 smaller parties, but Glove had a big lead on the small party vote. At this point if we add up the expected votes for each candidate we come to a number that is roughly equal, with Evry having 2 large parties and 3 small parties, while Glove had the support of 1 large party and 11 small parties.

That leaves a couple parties out on the sidelines right now though, including the 4th and 5th ranked parties in the country, the FEDS and INCI. Both large parties who didn’t really have their minds made up yet, though there were a bunch of rumors that INCI would vote predominantly for Glove, but those never materialized when they decided to sort of take themselves out of the picture by running their own candidate without any support from other parties. This leaves the FEDS all alone, and with an open primary that every Fed Member is allowed to take part in, their support was up for grabs. Evry, Civil Anarchy and GloveisLove all campaigned hard within the Fed Party to gather up some votes for the Fed Primary, and in the end, after some heated words between party members and some long debates, Evry won the Fed Primary by just 3 votes over GloveisLove. This led to the Feds throwing their support behind Evry, giving him a bump of voters that quite possibly turned out to be the difference in the election with Evry winning by just 137 votes. And that’s the story of how the Feds sort of, kind of, decided the next president of the United States.

Although the other three candidates who ran for president also had impressive numbers compared to what was expected for them. INCI had an incredible turnout with close to 80 percent of their members voting for pampuan reyis (though it’s hard to know for sure what the numbers were exactly). And we had a big surprise with Kathee93 who managed to pull in nearly 200 votes with her small 30 member party and some other friendly parties. And Molly Jo Caine deserves some respect as well for pulling in over double the votes of what her party membership is at. Though none of these three candidates had a real chance, they all did better than expected.

Next up we have probably the most boring of all the elections, Party President Elections, which occur on the 15th of the month. We might have some interesting elections though, as the RLC seems once again primed to bring some political drama into eUS, though it’s still very early and a lot of things will be sorted out in the next couple days.

The admins have really been making minor changes to the game that affect the market recently. Besides having a small sale recently that had the market fluctuating a little bit they also introduced a couple new temporary missions. The initial flurry of activity from the introduction of Rockets died down after a couple days, but that flurry was brought back up when one of the new missions was introduced. That new mission, requiring you to either invite two people into the game and help them reach level 15 (and let’s be honest, if you are here reading this you have no friends outside of this game, so that part of the mission isn’t happening) or build two rockets. This led to many people deciding they need to finish this mission ASAP and buy lots of weapons to build the two rockets immediately. Apparently the eRep community is an impatient bunch, but due to everyone wanting to build two rockets right away prices on weapons shot up again, though not as high as we saw when rockets were first introduced.

This also led to people using up some of their gold supply to get cash to buy weapons to make rockets, which led to gold dropping down under 1800 before rising back up towards 2200 for a while. Though gold has started to slowly fall down a bit, as it’s hovering right around 2000 USD per 1 gold conversion rate at the time of this publication. Other than that there hasn’t been much change, the job market is hovering around $350 for a days worth of work, Food Raws are hovering around $0.05 each, Weapons Raws jumped slightly but have settled back down at $0.07 each, and food has stayed fairly stable but dropped ever so slightly recently.

First of all, you have probably seen a picture like this before, of the Burj al Arab hotel in Dubai. Considered the world's only 7 Star Hotel (and here you thought they stopped at 5 stars...), this wonderful piece of architecture has some amazing features.

The hotel sits on a man made island, connected to the mainland by its own personal bridge, the building itself was designed to look like the sail on a ship, and the unique structure allows for a nearly 600 foot tall atrium! Inside the hotel they have a massive aquarium made from 7 inch thick acrylic, a restaurant 660 feet above the ground that cantilevers out almost 100 feet in both directions and one of the world's most expensive hotel rooms, the Royal Suite which costs over $18,000 per night!

But one of the things that is hard to find about this hotel, is a picture of the hotel from the sea. Get on your tinfoil hats for this one, but there is a theory that the British architect had a dream that he needed to spread the Christian religion in the Islamic region of the world, and he could do so by creating the world's largest Christian Cross.

A new section for you people to enjoy!

This week's word is Narcissism

The word can be used to describe a couple different things, but it commonly is used to describe a mental illness in which the sick people are referred to as narcissists. Some common traits of narcissists include:
- Inability to view the world from the perspective of other people
- Problems in sustaining satisfying relationships
- Pretending to be more important than they really are
- Bragging and exaggerating their achievements
- Claiming to be an "expert" at many things
- Flattery towards people who admire and affirm them
- Detesting those who do not admire them
- An obvious self-focus in interpersonal exchanges
- Using other people without considering the cost of doing so
- Problems distinguishing the self from others

There is a such thing as healthy narcissism though, and to some extent a lot of us are partially narcissistic. Though some more than others, but to have narcissistic traits can be a good thing depending on what career you are in, take politicians for example, at times having several narcissistic traits can be very helpful to politicians. Some famous fictional narcissists include Dr. House from the show House (sad to see this show come to an end recently) and Eric Cartman from South Park.
