Canada’s Lost Honour—The Real Story
Zanalan
Augustus Baldwin and the CEP would have Canadians believe that we have no standing in the International community. According to him, “Canada and its people are an international laughing stock.” It saddens me that Augustus holds the Canadian people and the Canadian military in such low regard. I, on the other hand, believe that our ATLANTIS allies respect us and hold our opinions in high regard.
It is true that we are not a military power. Our military is neither the strongest nor the largest. We do not have the ability to send in a brigade of tanks to destroy a wall singlehandedly. In ATLANTIS, the UK does not have a General or Field Marshall; neither does Finland. In spite of this absence, neither of these countries is a laughing stock. They are active and valued members of the alliance. Despite what Augustus would have you believe, Canada is just as active and just as valued.
If we were not valued then Derakor would not have been a serious contender for the position of ATLANTIS Supreme Commander. Even after losing the vote, there have been requests for him to take on the title of Under Supreme Commander. ATLANTIS has military actions being planned right now. For one, Derakor has written the battle plan. That plan has been applauded by other countries. Another of the plans is being co-sponsored by Misho (Sweden) and me. That plan is also receiving the full support of ATLANTIS. Our opinions and input are valued. Our skills are recognized.
Augustus is embarrassed by our “total defeat” in France. He fails to mention that he was the primary force behind involving Canada in the conflict. He fails to mention that after initially capturing French territories the USA, UK, and Sweden have all been pushed back to the original borders. In fact, the UK even lost one of its territories in the conflict. Augustus conveniently overlooks these facts. Spain, the mighty Spain, has also lost the French territories that it had previously captured. None of these countries is considered a laughing stock despite suffering the same setback as Canada.
The story is no different in Argentina. Every member of ATLANTIS was involved in the Argentine conflict. We all were beaten in Argentina. We are now learning that part of that defeat was based on violations of the eR rules, but it does not change the fact that Canada is no more to blame than Spain or the US or Sweden or Norway. This was an alliance loss and we all share responsibility.
Augustus also tells us that the US has offered to launch a training war for our countries. He fails to explain the terms of the battle. Under the US proposal, we would allow the US to take over one of our territories then we could fight to get it back. I have made it very clear that Canada is not willing to give up one inch of our country in the hope of retaking it in a RW. Certainly, it sound reasonable, but what happens if the next US President decides that they want to keep the territory? What happens if PEACE sees this battle as the means of entering North America? Where will we get the fund to pay for a Resistance War to recapture our homeland (50 Gold minimum)? We trust and respect our neighbours to the South, but Canada belongs to Canadians!
Please, please, please, do not be sucked in by rhetoric and fear mongering. Our allies value Canada and the CAF. Our military continues to improve. Our resources are in demand by both allies and enemies. All of us should be proud of what we have accomplished so far. Our military will continue to get stronger. Our economy will continue to get stronger. Canada will continue to get stronger!

Zanalan if you don't recall I was the one who set policy on the American training war declining their initial offer, but I did receive a follow-up offer that you obviously didn't.
However the Irish offer did not include any territories changing hands, but merely a back and forth. So I don't see what you are trying to achieve by out and out lying...
*Thunderous applause*
*claps*
oops, I forgot as well: Can you please produce 1 member of the Canadian military who feels that they are adequately supported and supplied by the government (during the French war and now)?
Because seeing as the CEP has the sympathy of the General of the Army and the Minister of Defense I feel as though our military may not agree with your evaluation of our "strength".
Augustus, I don't think Derakor (Minister of Defense) supports the CEP, considering that anti-you article he wrote and everything...
I thought Johnny Boy was Minister of Defense still? Is he just ATLANTIS and Foreign Affairs now? My mistake.
But thats still a good question for Derakor: Do you agree with Zanalan that the army received all the support it needed during the French wars, or do you agree with the army?
Augustus, please address a point that Zanalan actually brought up, he never once mentioned full support of the military.
Derakor, to my knowledge, has not uttered any support for the CEP and furthermore has blasted it openly in his article.
so stop "out and out lying" to quote your own words
Also, Zanalan good article
Alexander: I am addressing a point. Zanalan's theme is that Canada is fine, it isn't in any real trouble, everyone thinks its great. My question is can he produce anyone who can agree with this that isn't partisan in nature?
The danger is that those in power wish to stay in power so desperately that they will try and whitewash the country's problems rather than admit something needs to be done. Its a Canadian tradition that Zanalan is continuing.
And I believe I just admitted I misspoke when I said Minister of Defense. I had two Ministerial portfolios mixed up. Please read before you write...
You had posted as I was writing, my apologies.
And the military isn't partisan in nature? everyone is partisan in nature. A military man will ALWAYS want more supplies to keep fighting, and it is far easier for people to find faults then successes.
His theme is not that things are fine, his theme are things are getting better. Which they are, the CAF is becoming better with time and experience and I have no doubt it will continue to improve. The economy isn't doing terrible, it has its problems but we are moving the right direction, food prices are down, citizen fee is down, the government coffers are building up gold using foreign currencies, and the next battery of taxes will be the biggest push towards moving CAD out of circulation.
Q3 food has slid 1-3CAD (depending on the day) from where it was two weeks ago, our currency has retained its value at a time when the major currencies of the world have lost value ( the USD in particular)
We still have big problems, labour crunch, inflationary fears, low supplies of manuf and constr goods, low rank CAF, weak social services. But we aren't a laughing stock, we are a developing nation.
I consider Canada as a developing nation to be a dishonourable predicament.
We use different words to convey the same despair.
This is inspiring! Well put!
Aye, Captain Aye!
"But thats still a good question for Derakor: Do you agree with Zanalan that the army received all the support it needed during the French wars, or do you agree with the army?"
For the situation of the French War, I'll agree it did not recieve the full support. Nor now, I never said that the military shouldn't get more funding, but I don't think it should be the most important thing to our nation, just second. The Economy needs fixing therefore it's more important. Until a situation of war. Then the Military should get more funds given. But not an amount that would bankrupt the country again.
Just out of interest and with all due respect,
How does someone with 35 fights become a contender for ATLANTIS Supreme Commander?
How does one get onto this little gig?
Because on the grounds of the recent mistakes made by ATLANTIS I would hope it doesn't come from within ATLANTIS itself.
@Baldwin: I think the CAF is quite well supplied and I am just a lowly soldier.
@Tamas: Not to be offensive but what does answering a bunch of trivia questions gain a person in real military experience? I would value the eAge, knowledge, and connections above the number of fights.
Also, Voted. Good article, wish I heard more from you Zanalan.
We(me and the person you jump to defend when defence wasn't needed) are the same eAge (four months), I have the knowledge, being a soldier in real life has nothing to do with the common sense needed to run a military organisation in a game, experience (both military and using the eRep ranking system in the game covers that.
But you are right, connections would probably have a lot to do with being elevated to any position, although I got my game position (Lt of the CAF) without having any other than the people I fought with.
And when you compare the CAF supplies to that of other countries, we are supplied, but not that well supplied, we used to get Q2 weapons, anyone who fought with the legion in Spain, for Spain was receiving Q4 and Q5 and gold to top yourself up, I don't want that I want a decent opening shot and then at least three Q2 and Q3's.
We need to change the way we fight, we don't have enough people to eat away at something in dribs and drabs, we need a big hit for a start.....that is possible.
voted. well written article Zanalan i am glad our president is able to convey his point so well without resorting to the petty insults and fear-mongering of Augustus
Augustus
You may have set an initial policy, but the American offer is still based on us giving up a territory and fighting for its return. I said it before and I'll say it again, I am not willing to sacrifice an inch of Canadian soil.
As to your claim that I lied about the Irish proposal, I think you need to re-read the article. I did not mention the Irish offer since I have not seen an Irish offer. Only you and John seem to have the details on what the Irish want to do. Until I see the plan, I have no comment.
A copy of the Irish proposal was posted in Cabinet under Hagen (you were a Minister at the time), I believe by Tantis. Unless you guys deleted it in the last weeks then its staring you in the face.
Ummm weren't our forums sort of deleted ?....?
Touche Dominik, touche 🙂 But Zanalan was still there when the original post was made, and have access to it for 2 weeks.
Although we shouldn't try and let this split the harmony of the CAF.
Voted.
"of that defeat was based on violations of the eR rules"
let me laugh...
Our glorious allies of spain and romania are home of the worst cheaters and fake accounts creators of the world, and you are always crying that PEACE cheated?
Are you so blind or just stupid?
Some people in PEACE cheated, as some in ATLANTIS too.
We lost beacause we were disorganized, selfish and stupid.
