I recently had a conversation about eRep with an acquaintance I have known of for a long time. We talked about some of the psychology and sociology of players and what makes nations in eRep tick. We talked about personal relationships(good and bad) and we talked about expectations and leadership. Essentially, we were talking about what matters in eRep and why.

A funny thing happened to me at work in real life today. I was walking a group of event planners through menu options and themes for some upcoming events they want catered by the company I work for. We were talking about presentation and timing over the course of an event. One of the people at the meeting at one point said, “It won’t matter. Nobody will notice a small thing like that. Even if they do [notice], they won’t know any better.”

The conversation I shared about eRep immediately came to mind. It HAS to matter. Everyone in a leadership role has expectations put upon them and they must be serious about it. People paid for the best service you can give them and if you are responsible for providing that, it is on you deliver. That’s true for catered events and it’s true in eRep. Some people pay real money to play this game. Some people pay with their time. Some do both. But ALL do so with the expectation that those they have chosen to lead will take their wants and needs seriously. This is true for party leaders, alliance Secretaries General, MU Commanders, MU QMs, Congressmen, Presidents, meta-office holders, forum mods, anyone who takes even a small responsibility to themselves. It HAS to matter.

I cannot claim that everything always goes to plan 100% and every single instance or decisions will result in immediate top-level benefits. Sometimes it’s a process. Sometimes you have to put your expectations aside for a short time in order to reap greater rewards later. For example, we had a group of freedom fighter medal hunters from Eastern Europe instigate an action in Quebec during our overnight recently. Our priority was first and foremost to help Croatia in their battle against Serbia. So, we lost in a region that we were entitled to hang on to for a while longer. Have no fear, we will get iron elsewhere, but now we will forgo a bonus for a few days. In the process though, we helped our friends.

On the whole, I do my best to hear you when you speak and I understand that expectations are important. I could never grant everyone his or her individual wish every time, but I do work hard to provide a place to which you want to come, even if it is just for a few moments each day.

For the coming month, there are some changes in staff positions. I was pleased with the month of May but I am truly excited for the month of June!
