As per my campaign pledge to include the Virginian voter, I shall withhold my vote on the proposed peace with Brazil until I can get some input from the average Virginian and cast my vote accordingly.
The question is:
Would you prefer the United States to sign a peace treaty with Brazil?
Please post all opinions and thoughts on the issue in the comments section. I shall keep debate open for twelve hours before casting my vote either yea, nay, or abstain. This is your chance to make a difference on the eMerican political machine, Virginia!

After their backhanded and diabolical takeover of one of our allies (South Africa), Brazil should be obliterated from this e-earth.
I'll second that!
I agree that their actions are abominable, however we should not forget that they asked for peace from us. Either they have had a change of heart and are appologetic over their former actions, or they have taken a beating that they wish to have ended, meaning that they have been punished sufficiently (especially since death of soldiers/citizens is not a possibility and thus their pain is purely monatary in nature meaning the war must have cost their pockets dearly).
I vote for peace as long as there are indications that they will not attack another country mearly for personal gain in the future.
As the world is still sorting itself out into the new balance, I suppose that it would be prudent to accept an olive branch from a PEACE nation, if for no other reason than to not just recreate the old status quo. Besides, it's not like we couldn't defend an ally if they attacked.
Kudos to you, senator, for soliciting the opinion of your constituents!
I say yes, for now.
We could definitely use trade with their iron to lower our iron costs. Should they attack our allies, it would just go back to the way it is now. Asturias is our only link to iron at the moment and this could be a great option, which is why I voted yes to the same proposal last month twice during the previous term as Congressman of Virginia.
I'm not from Virginia.
I currently live in eSpain.
I like the idea of re-examining our relations with PEACE countries after the fall of ATLANTIS.
I especially like the idea of another friendly source of high iron.
My only issue is what Brazil just did to South Africa.
Maybe I'm not realpolitik enough, maybe I'm letting my emotions get to me.
But the whole South Africa thing just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Peace with Brazil may be the smart thing to do.
But if I was a US Congressman, I just don't think I could do it right now.
I'm a Virginian, but I'm too eYoung both to vote and to know the history between Brazil, South Africa, and our USA.
I was, however, capable of reading the actual proposal, in which - and I quote - "Brazil demanded a sum of 0 Gold".
It would seem to me that if idea of making peace with Brazil is at all "in question", then why should we be doing so on -their- terms?
For this reason I would ask that you vote No - and that you lobby to those in favor to instead support a Peace Proposal that includes some demands of our own (e.g. greater-than-zero gold from their national treasury, assurance of open iron trading, ... those terms I leave to those of you with experience).
I realize that it is late in the game to be putting forth my opinion on the matter, but thank you for providing the opportunity to voice it all the same.
@Trahern
In most cases, peace is made without any money changing sides. See past examples of peace proposals.
With the opening of trade, I'm sure Brazilians would jump at the opportunity to participate in our iron market, especially with the prices we've seen recently.
Yes. Peace with Brazil. We have to realize the PEACE/ATLANTIS lines aren't there anymore and it's safe to cross. We should no longer be defined by ATLANTIS. The alliance dissolving should open a new chapter in American state affairs.
