An inconvenient truth

Day 2,138, 14:16 Published in Switzerland Cyprus by Louise de Vivepierre

Hello, dear friends.
Today I’m here presenting you a new article bye a friend of mine, Feliks.
Even if the original article is about eItaly, I think the current situation in our country has several points in common with the Italian one, that’s why I was persuaded to translate this.
I hope you’ll find it interesting, too and hope this could be a source of new ideas.

Do you know history?
Once upon a time a great force used to rule the worl😛 the Roman Empire. Despite of its great power, it was doomed to wear itself out, victim of its own greatness, corrupt, futureless.
In 410 AD Alaric’s Goths sacked Rome. That’s how we got here.

Rome is burning, our country decays, more and more players are quitting because bored. An unstoppable exodus is preventing any babyboom project: those who register find an overwhelmed and hopeless country. In the meantime, like stray dogs, we argue for mere pennies.
We are helpless, we don’t have a common aim, except from the annihilation of our own domestic enemies.
Italy is sacked; our territories are under enemies’ rule.
But this is not the end, it’s not over.
Today two chances stand in front of us.
We can go on roaming through our cities ruins, waiting for the next defeat: day by day we’re fading away.

The second possibility is start marching and fighting.

How, since we cannot compete in a direct strife against our the invaders? Fighting everywhere, all around the world. Every night we’re going to gather in IRC, to review all our supplies and the resources we’d need to move, then we’re choosing a battle. Which one? We will decide that: the one where we’ll find a weak point, the unsteady and troublesome battle; there we will attack, we will pounce on our enemies. All together, solid, unforeseen: day after day, all around the world, wherever our enemies could lose ground.

We’ll go back to primary functions of a marching people: Foreign Affairs will explore, War Ministry will look after strategy and army (reunited and organized unities), Home Affairs and Ministry of Economy will take care of supplies, to make the army work at best.

We will be a stateless but deadly nation: heralds of terror because unpredictable, always marching on and at war with everyone who should join our invaders, those ones who occupy our homeland. This way we will start winning again: we’ll be a small force in the world, but very well organized and disciplined, homeless, without anything to lose or defend.

Our enemies will fear us and our allies will ask for our support, once again, but we will always decide where and when to strike.
We’ll set new players, teach them how to fight without wasting damage, united to leave our mark; together with loyal friends, against traitors.
And finally, after many trips, veterans of thousand of battles, sooner or later we will finally go back home, knowing we strongly deserve that.

This was the original article, now let me just add some personal considerations.

First of all, as said before, I think there are several common points with the case Feliks analyze😛 also Switzerland is military weak (we also share a common enemy, Slovenia), such as Italy we have no chance to regain our regions and keep them for an acceptable time, we can only win with allies’ help, but as they need to focus their attention somewhere else ,we would be annihilated once again.

In my opinion there is a notable difference between Italy and us (there are more than one, but this is the most remarkable): domestic strifes.
Our community is pretty united, we don’t have relevant discords (if you think we do, just try getting Italian CS and living there for 2-3 months).

This is my plea: we have few new citizens, a relevant part of them stop playing after short time, just a few go on playing. Let’s try to include them, to spur them to join community, to join IRC, to discuss with other players. We always need new ideas, we need to discuss, to compare with others, to share ideas.
This is the only way we can all give this game a new life, letting everyone to play, to be able to make experience, to fail, because also failing is useful.

If we see new people, maybe a little insolent or presumptuous because of their inexperience, let’s talk with them, teach them, explain them where they’re doing wrong, discuss their ideas, trying to see if something good comes up.
Treating them as useless noobs, excluding them will not help anyone. We’d think they’re arrogant, they’d think we are a clique, that we want to be the only ones who decide and have power.

Let’s try to make a step towards each other, to finally build a united and efficient country, so maybe in future we could have a hope to grow stronger and play a most considerable role.

And finally, let me talk to you, new players: if someone you are treated bad by any player, don't give up, don't feel excluded; fight with more strength, defend your ideas.
Don't think "old" players are a kinf of mafia who want to preserve their power; we all have the same goal: to allow everyone, new and old players, to have fun with this game, so we must cooperate together to reach our common goal.
