Ambassador from South Korea

Day 997, 22:00 Published in Austria France by Yonai Keiko
[ENG]:
Hello! My name is Yonai Keiko, and I’m the new South Korean ambassador to Austria. Some of you may know me (Rangeley 😛) as I was a citizen of Austria for a few months earlier this year before real life called me away from the eWorld. I am not fluent in German, unfortunately, but if any kind soul would like to offer their translation services, I would greatly appreciate it.

To begin, I’d like to tell you all a little bit about the history of our nation. South Korea was annexed by Japan way back when the war module first began during Beta. In November 2008, a few Argentineans backed by Atlantis launched three resistance wars in Gyeongsangnam-do, Gyeonggi-do, and Chungcheongnam-do . Due to some bugs in the battles, all three were successful and thus began the South Korean community.

For the next thirteen months, South Korea was plagued by PTOs, invasions, and a very small population. We grew close to our former conqueror and made an excellent friend and ally in Japan. That is why in June of 2009, during my term, the South Korean community as a whole decided to end our independence and enter into the JASKO Union. Our plan was to build up our numbers and resources then return to the eWorld in a carefully controlled environment with the cooperation of the Japanese people and government.

Sadly, things did not go the way we planned. We set the date of our reentry on August 20th, to give us a small window of time to prepare for the congressional elections, thus hopefully preventing any PTO efforts. Then, on August 22nd the Theocrats arrived, having lost their previous nation of Switzerland in whichever global war was going on at the time. On August 25th, in what was likely one of the closest elections in history, we lost the elections 6-4 by a single vote. Despite some desperate and costly maneuvers to remerge into Japan using my Presidential powers, the very militarily powerful Theocrats managed to keep control of South Korea. When we lost the Presidency on September 5th, the Theocrats became untouchable.

For a few months the remaining South Koreans were split up. Some went to live in Japan or Austria; some chose to stay and continue to do what they could to fight the Theocrats. The Theocrats eventually left the nation in a very peaceful and respectable manner after five months of rule in January 2010. The four months that ensued were full of PTOs, though the population and economy made significant strides.

The day after the May presidential elections, a surprising and unfortunate event occurred. Japan declared war against South Korea. The reasoning behind the war was unclear, but I believe that the main point was that the Japanese populace was bored. Though Japan was successful in the beginning of the war, reducing South Korea to two unpopulated regions, the tides of war soon changed in favor of South Korea. Peter Bae, the then President of South Korea, signed an MPP with Russia. Very quickly South Korea beat back the Japanese and took back every region in our pre-war boundaries. In addition, we secured Jeju Island, a region that was originally South Korean but that had never been held by the country since the original annexation by Japan back in Beta.

The war is still active, though no battles have been fought since we retook Jeju. The Japanese government has continued to reject our offers of peace. On a much brighter note, the past two months have seen a boom of growth in South Korea. Our population passed 1,000 citizens thanks to a small baby boom of native Koreans! Our economy is doing much better, even though we are still plagued, like the rest of the eWorld, by the problems of v2. We recently elected our first native Korean president, Grease. Overall, things seem quite bright for the future of the Southern half of the Korean peninsula.
