ALL Hate is Actually Fear
I don’t believe in hate… I don’t think it truly exists in reality. Hate is simply a mask for fear. We all have fears and how they manifest is different in every person. You tell me any concept of hate in the comments below and I will tell you how and why they are actually JUST FEAR.
I don’t believe in evil either… I don’t think it truly exists in reality. Evil is always fear based. Go ahead, challenge me in the comments below.
We all inherited these fears from our primate ancestors. They were relevant for them since pre-history. The instinct of fear is necessary for survival in the animal kingdom. The problem is that the human race has carried these prehensile instincts into the current day. Now their function has become a crippling disease that threatens the very survival of our species.
We have progressed in many ways since the days of our primate ancestors. We have developed speech, rational thought, self-examination, science etc. Yet still we carry this xenophobic fear of “others”. This is discrimination at its core… a self-defeating and irrational fear that threatens our very future! We have isolated ourselves within groups based on color, race, sex, religion and nationality just to name a few. These are the means by which we threaten to destroy the planet. There is no future in this kind of thinking. We are all in peril because of discrimination.
How can we change this dire future? By using rational thought to advance beyond our basic instincts. They no longer serve any purpose, in fact, they are very likely to destroy us.
It is up to all of us to rethink what we pass on to future generations. I’m not saying that this will be easy. It well may be the most difficult hurdle that humanity faces. Rethink what you have been taught and how it nurtures our fears. Here is a simple example: my mother lost a cousin when he drowned in an undercurrent at the beach. She has been afraid of swimming ever since and she has unintentionally perpetrated these fears into her children. The fear is irrational, in fact, knowing how to swim could save our own lives someday. Personally, I have overcome this fear but my sister has not. Moreover, my sister has unintentionally passed these fears to her children. Discrimination is exactly that… nonsensical and self-defeating thoughts that have been placed in our heads. We certainly have the intellect and the will to overcome these fears… our very existence depends on us overcoming these fears.
Discrimination is fear. Are we intelligent enough to overcome this fear? My view of humanity is optimistic.
I believe we can.
Thank you,
Uncle Rican

i love you, Rican
We all love you, uncle. You has shown us that love is the path.
Using rational thought is indeed a good option to overcome hate and discrimination. What also works is making contacts. To meet each other is a good way to overcome the fear. So go out, talk, eat drink with strangers and make the world a better place.
Totally agree! 😁
The tribalism that divides us is indeed learned, as expressed in the song in this video: https://tinyurl.com/y7ryyyqo
One of the things I have learned over time is that to admit there is a problem is to be well on the road to solving it. When we realize that "others" are more like us than unlike us, many of the fears we may have had about them can be dissipated. In a game like this, we have an opportunity to overcome some of the divisions in the real world. Let's use them well!
great song... unlikely vocalist. 😛
but the words of the song speak the tru tru.
i cog you
I considered using a clip from one of the movie versions, but I happen to like Mandy Patinkin, and also liked the juxtaposition with "Children Will Listen". 🙂

It does exist in reality.

fascinating.
I also hate people blocking aisles in the supermarket. Literally the worst.
methinks you confuse irritation with hate.
there are way too many irritants in life. best to overcome them with pity.
Irritation leads to dislike leads to hatred.
I see no fear in this chain.
I think you are AFRAID you will 1.be confronted with speaking with them or 2.suffer an inconvenience
Disagree. That might be the case when these situations actually occur, but not in general. There's not necessarily any fear behind expecting people to be a bit self-aware.
Bah, always seen fear as a state of insufficient knowledge to invoke determinism. Afraid of being alone in the woods? Marks lack of survival knowledge and/or info on the flora and fauna there, as well as how to interact safely with it. Afraid of spiders/insects(also a pretty inherited trait over the ages)-again no knowledge about the composition of these critters and how the chemicals they might administer to you would react with your physiology and, most importantly, how you can counteract and neutralize it. Knowledge defies fear.
Also I do hate. Like, a lot. Just about so damn much if I could sell hate I'd be repaying my country's national debt in about 2 days. Hm, must be cause I turn out to be a .......straight...white....male(OIMG WURST POSSIBAL KOMBINEISHAN! in the era of politcorrectness). Ya, the kind of guys who usually are the baddies in movies, and if they aren't, they'd be absolutely necessarily displayed as incompetent wussies who need(HAVE TO) be taught by a highly emancipated and successful woman how get things done. If they happen to be protagonists(god forbid) they'd also need the support of all the culturally diverse friends they have to avoid drowning in self-pity. Shame I couldn't be one of the chosen ones. OK, enough of the sarcastic deadpan snarker in me-just saying the whole differentiation thingy is as absurd as it is unproductive. Watch and judge people by what they do and get done, not by their characteristics, most of which are usually defined without their consent, mind that.
Now, I do hate where the world is going. I hate how people like Sagan and Hawking end up known by a rather minor part of the world population, while humanity idolizes the wrong people, often some bimbos or steroid junkies, both types having the intellectual capacity of a street light(in best case scenario). I hate how the educational systems around the world don't teach kids to think critically, but rather create consumerist zombies out of them, because countries need controllable masses, not rational entities who run the risk of disagreeing. I hate how my country is being run by criminals, and how on election day my...let's call it a "somewhat-informed" vote weights just as much as some auntie driven in(trip sponsored by the to-be-winning party) from another country and who doesn't even know how to read, or speak my language, but yea, they told her to "vote 15" so she will. And people like me are vastly outnumbered here. And that will seal the fate of a whole country for a good few years. I hate how we could have been travelling among stars right now if we all worked together but instead we split into groups and battle each others for resources or out of pure egotistic reasons. Country vs country, one superpower vs another trying to show "whose is bigger", men vs women, asian vs black vs white people...as if any of it even matters and some god referee will appear from outa nowhere eventually and say: "attaboy, your team won and proved better than the opposition, here is a potato and 3 internets, enjoy".
In my vision, that "hate" is a disapproval of a given course of action and a refusal on my behalf to take part in it.
Aight had fun and thought-provoking article, enjoy this wall o' text for some damage. Also I hate you all 😠
Trololol.
I don't think so,,not all hate caused by fear
but if that's the case,
then you need to overcome it with LOVE
Within love there is no fear
and you know it ,,the antithesis of love is fear itself :
"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love." (1John 4:1😎
your are EXACTLY correct. The opposite of love is not hate, but fear.
love (perfect or otherwise) is the antithesis of fear.
Meaningful article, very appreciated. Share it and teach not to be racist, starting from here in Erepublik
Ok. I'm rather interested in your answer now.
At one point I found out that my gf had been chrating on me with one of my friends I had regarded as one of the closest ones. Now forget about her, she's not important for the whole story. I do, in a way, hate him. Not so much for having my gf, but for betraying me. That didn't prevent me from having another honest relationship (or at least I hope it is 🙂 ), I haven't lost trust in my other friends, I do not fear of the same thing happening again. But I hate him none the less.
Out of what fear?
that's not hate. who in the world wouldn't rightly have a fear of betrayal
when a sacred trust is broken ?
But I do not have that fear, I'm still not jealous (if I got the letters right), I have no new issues with people after that, I just hate him.
you opened your heart to him as a friend and he betrayed you.
think about it in the third person.
enlarge your perspective.
one's vulnerability is exposed when that person that is betrayed.
And I agree there. But what am I afraid of?
vulnerability
you scare me
👽
Good article, very thought provoking. I don't believe hate and fear are the same inter-changeable concepts though. Hatred is an emotion all its own. However, I do believe that much of the hate we see is indeed bred of fear, just not all.
i think if we examine it more closely you will agree.
what particular concept of hate do you think is not fear-based?
Yes we can
or is it
Yes Rican
Vote!!
I am not sure hate can always be translated into fear. People have thoughts, thoughts generate desires and desires incite emotions. For example if you think your friend shouldn't have betrayed you. If you think the world should like this, the world should be like that, I should be healthy, I should have money, the people should be understanding, these are the same things. And people are angry and unhappy because these expectations don't come true. But of course in many cases they fear that they will lose the desired thing or outcome.
I also do not believe in hate, its either like or don't like, there is no place for hate!
Good article, Prof. 😃
Thank you for that, my friend. You know too well how much do I agree with you.
I have often thought about the subject of your article and you have inspired me to share my thoughts in an article (cause it's a bit long for a comment) that I think will greatly complement yours.
Thank you again 🙂
i look forward to it indeed.
Here we go 😉
[FEY] OF FEAR AND HATRED

legit ALL emotions are either based on love or fear. old news 😛

i will read that and get back to you. thanks
I hate sprouts, I certainly don't fear them. Therefore your hypotheses is incorrect...
you got me there. i surrender
Uncle, am I right to understand that you see science as a solution for racism? I want to write a response article starting from this premise...
science... not exactly. just rational thought. thought seperated from the brain numbing input we receive from so many directions, such as our parents, the news, friends etc.
Rational thought is actually the thing that causes 'racism' in my opinion. It is perfectly rational to be wary, even fearful of those who are different to you. It's only recently in our species history that we have lived and had close contact with such vast numbers of people that are not our family members or who have close ties to our genes. Those people looked like each other, spoke like each other and more importantly acted like each other. Coming into contact with 'outsiders' would have been a stressful and dangerous situation more often then not.
The dislike of those who do not act or even look like yourself is not something I think the Human Race will be dropping anytime soon. It's far too primal a response.
Wayne, Wayne, Wayne.... have a little faith in the human spirit and it's destiny.
I wish I could Brother Rican, but I have spent too much time around Humans. A collapse is coming and when it arrives, it won't be pretty.
When you say "have a little faith in the human spirit and its destiny" it is exactly the opposite of a rational thought 🙂. Don't get me wrong, I also have faith in humanity, but I call it faith, not rational thought.
There are three types of humanism: (1) liberal, which emphasizes the value of the individual, (2) social, which emphasizes the value of human society and (3) evolutionary, which sees humans as one of the Darwinian mutable species populating planet Earth. Only number (3) is rational, rooted in Darwinian evolutionary theory. Numbers (1) and (2) have irrational roots, such as religion. It turns out that number (3) gave us the worst type of racism, the one which tried to exterminate "degenerate" human races. A mixture of numbers (1) and (2) currently gives us the best society humanity has ever experienced in many thousand of years of history.
