Aircraft Battery Overheat

Day 806, 04:25 Published in Russia Malaysia by akaBooN

Aircraft battery may be overheat due to faulty of the regulation system of the charging circuit, excessive load, insufficient cooling or even the battery itself is at fault. Safety precaution needs to be done to prevent personnel from suffering thermal shock when removing the battery. Trip appropriate circuit breaker and wait for overheat light goes off. Also check battery bay for signs of electrolyte spillage or corrosion and the condition of the output from on board battery charger.

With valid test equipment, apply heat to thermal switch and note the temperature it operates. Also check the temperature at which the sensor deactivates when heat is removed. Ensure value to be within limit as per maintenance manual. Clean the sensor and check for any physical damage. Replace the sensor if necessary.

Fit serviceable battery and ensure all connections are secured. Check for cooling or ventilation system, keeping it free from any obstruction. Reset all circuit breakers and monitor the charging current value. The value must be within limit as per maintenance manual. After all jobs is done and found satisfied, sign for Certificate of Release to Service and clear the tech log entry.
