AfterHun

Day 895, 22:05 Published in USA Canada by Dillan Stone

Hungary could be the first nation in eRepublik to go entirely from Superpower status to Wiped From the Map since the fall of Dio's Pakistan Empire. While other powerful nations have suffered this indignity (Spain and Canada, notably, during the last major war), and others have come very close (the USA), Hungary's possible fate poses some questions.

The most important is, of course, "what next?"

It's unlikely that the Hungarians will subject themselves to the indignity of a peace treaty, like the US nearly did last time Mr. Harrison sat in the Presidents' chair.

The conventional wisdom says there are a few other targets of interest to take; Lioning, is obvious. Limpopo, nearly as obvious. Both of those battles are likely to be both hard fought, fraught with distraction battles and tactics, and expensive since they will almost have to be slugfests, unlike the coup pulled in Heilongjiang.

But I'm still talking after that.

First, it is important to notice that, while PENIX will be weakened militarily, it will be far from destroyed, even if Hungary's off the map. Recall what the subjugated Spanish, Canadians, and (at least for land workers in particular) Americans did during the last war - we flooded into allied nations that still had functional economies, and fought for our homelands and our allies as best we could. We became more effective at hit and run tactics, liberated key regions via RW, and slowly pushed the invaders back. The fate of Hungary is almost certain to be similar, in the end.

Many Huns have already fallen back to Lioning, Serbia. If that falls, Russia or Brazil seem to be the next natural place for land workers.

I say these things not to discourage our allies, but to prod them. If a greater victory is to be won from the lesser one (and no matter how epic, Hungary eradication is still only a lesser victory - witness Spain half a year ago, and today), our strategists must stay a step ahead of the enemy tactically, whereever possible, and not fall into the traps of infighting over the scraps, or resting on their laurels while the enemy sharpens their blades.
