Absolute power corrupts absolutely

Day 1,729, 10:07 Published in South Africa South Africa by Steven Bosch
Excuse the wall of text, but it is necessary in this case.

Fellow citizens.
Some of you may not know this, but eSouth Africa probably has the most extensive, strict, laborious congressional laws over the whole of eRepublik.

In fact, our South African "laws" are more extensive than the in-game eRepublik laws.

So, as I hail from a party that claims to be a no-bullshit party, I've decided to follow this mandate into congress. Something that I've done numerous times and in which I've seen some red tape and some of the bureaucracy lessened over the years, only to see some new red tape added along the way.

Now don't get me wrong. I'm not against laws and I don't propose that everything be scrapped. But honestly, we have laws stipulating that congress members need to "sign in" at the national chambers - a practice that hasn't happened since I guess Oprah was around.

So, I made a proposal that we streamline our laws and see where we can cut the fat. See it here.

The reaction?

Well, some fellow congress members agreed and started with a constructive discussion. Some also disagreed, as it should be in a democracy.

But, then our all-powerful congressional leadership (they-who-cannot-be-censured-or-disciplined-according-to-our-imperfect-laborious-laws) decided that I was "absurd, completely absurd and unrealistic" and thereafter decided to launch a personal attack on me as a congress member.

Suddenly, my suggestion to streamline (as it was stated in the original topic and that I did not go and change after all this happened) is interpreted as a call to abolish all laws.

Now, I've been in this game long enough, been speaker enough times and have also held some other positions. I'm merely asking my fellow citizens to stand up to this.

Somewhere along the line congress has become a machine where you need to follow 8 separate acts in order to take part in the congress part of things. We even had congress members admit recently that they never read or followed many of these acts, because they were just too numerous, wordy and down-right boring.

Thus I ask, why are we willingly squeezing the fun out of this game?
What is the point of having numerous laws with people who ignore them, when we could have fewer laws that make it easier for congress to do their job?

So, I will call again for a streamlining, simplification and decrease in our laws. And I believe that I have support for that - we can't see these laws as sacred (to quote my esteemed fellow congress member Rico Suave).

Who is with me?

Steven Bosch
aka Mr Kitty

Member of congress (and I will use the mandate handed to me by the people who have voted for me to make this place, and the country a better place).
