Aarons-Miller, Zigon1, and Taking Your Right to Vote Seriously

Day 411, 14:05 Published in USA USA by Ansen

First off, most of you have probably heard about the Aarons-Miller situation by now. Just in case you haven't, you can read all about it by clicking here.

I found this story quite interesting because Aarons-Miller was one of the people who ran against me in the previous congressional elections for the state of Kansas (luckily, he did not win). Additionally, we've already seen Zigon1, the elected congressman of Nevada, banned for multiple accounts. So, that makes two stories now of congressmen or congressional candidates who turned out to be pretty unsavory characters.

I bring this up simply to remind all citizens to take their right to vote seriously. Whether the elections are for party president, congress, or country president, voting should not be taken lightly. It is easy to skip voting. And, it is easy to simply vote for the candidate in your party.

Neither of these choices constitutes being a responsible citizen. If we want to be responsible citizens, we must all take responsibility for those we elect.

As a congressman myself, I would not want your vote simply because I was at the top of a list, or you've seen my name around, or because we belong to the same party. I would want you to check my voting record, ask questions, read my platform carefully, and then make an informed decision - whether that be for me or for one of my opponents.

Sometimes scandals like these will occur, and there is little to nothing that we can do about them. But, there are two things we can do to make them occur less often:

1) VOTE. If you don't, do you really think you should have the right to complain when things go badly?

2) Don't JUST vote, but DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Make sure that you are truly making your vote count by voting for the person who will be the best man (or woman!) for the job.
