A Whole New World Part 3: Lessons In Life

Day 542, 11:54 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Dishmcds

Regardless of affiliation, over the last 16 months, Erepublik has taught me many things.

It takes a bigger person to admit when they learn something from someone else, or even a game. In the grand scheme of things, that's truly what games are for, which is to teach us things. People may or may not like to think of it like that, but each Game has it's purpose.

Regular Video Games, regardless of content (whether it's Grand Theft Auto, FPS's, Sports games, and so on), teach us problem solving and hand eye coordination. Some of the newer systems teach us other coordination qualities depending on whether we're using foot paddles, dance revolution, or whatnot, but they do teach us coordination nonetheless. Sports atheletes, executives, and so on use technology, included but not limited to Game film, game theory, and tactic/strategy movements to improve real companies, teams, and businesses around the World. Empires are built around our need to continuously learn, and perfect things. As humans, it's really the only thing we all truly have in Common.

Erepublik is not so different. It may not teach us hand-eye coordination or how to improve our batting average, but it does teach us a little about how the very basics (and by very basics I mean extremely basic, as the systems are not conducive to real economic theory) of the Economy, Military, Government Function, and overall Management.

In reality, whether you want to think of it this way or not, Erepublik is preparing you for your job. It's not teaching you how to program or code, or run a Dry Cleaning Business, but it is teaching you the most basic skill you'll need in your regular life: People Management.

Managing people is the only thing every business, whether it has to do directly with cash transactions or credit, whether it's managing a small company or large, is the only thing they all actually do. Most provide unique services of their own, because if they didnt, they wouldnt last in business very long.

But Erepublik teaches us how to properly organise, manage, and implement techniques which we've all wanted to try. How many people try to organise Communism because they want to see if it really works, and believe it's basic theory? How many of those people realise the basic reason it hasn't worked isn't said theory, but rather it's implementation.

Erepublik offers us a platform in which to test such things, and often times teaches us how to manage various situations within our own life, be it family, friends, or work.

The problem that most Erepublikans have, however, is they don't see it that way. When something they do doesn't work, or when they feel slighted, they throw a temper tantrum. I myself have been guilty of this in the past. They start claiming cheats, and so on, and break Erepublik laws themselves (in case no one else notices it, there is an actual Erepublik Law that says you cannot accuse anyone of cheating in public, and without proof. Thats the job of the Admin). If you were at work, would you threaten your boss that if he did not rectify something you were going to walk out and quit?

If you answer that question yes, then you might as well leave Erepublik here and now, because you haven't learned the one lesson that salvages everything: You're going to get more accomplished working alongside someone rather than against them.

Moving on to the recent spew of threats to leave from places like Sweden, Romania, and so on, the only question I have on the matter is this:

Where were these threats when you knew your own allies were misusing a system? There are bugs in any online game, and there are some less than honourable people that will always use them. But, over 16 months, both sides have used glitches, cheats, replication bugs, Monetary Market problems, and that includes almost every country in Erepublik's 16-17 month history. If you're so willing to leave now that you're country has been caught, or lost a battle, where were these shallow threats just a month ago when Italy lost a 2500 Gold investment to a proven cheat?

The Answer: You were the ones replying "Baaaaaawwwwwwwww" to those articles. You were the ones denying their existance, and even after our admin team worked on the problem, and banned the users involved, you still denied it's existance.

What most people don't realise, overall, is that the admin team brings us a chance to learn and grow Real Life cooperation and concepts, without charging for a subscription, and using only Gold Pack purchases to fund their own team. They all work hard, each day, to try and fix every mistake be it major or minor. They are not perfect, they are not saintly, and they are not robots. Improvements, bug fixes, testing, all of this takes time. They may not be perfect, and even I haven't agreed with everything they've done, but overall I'm satisfied with the FREE product I get. If you choose to buy Gold, that's your own choice, and no one is forcing you to.

However, threatening the admin team is not going to help anyone. That's a lesson I learned long ago, and I hope each of you learn it as well. It doesnt change anything, and it doesnt get things done any quicker.

Sincerely,
Dishmcds
