A tale of the unexpected

There were two strangers, wandering the nights. They saw each other in a bar, drinking a cheap beer after a hard fight in CH. They were both soldiers forged in many battles, the blood and the sweat were mixing on their clothes and hands. None of them wanted to chat, especially to each other, they hated their guts. The sole purpose of that night was to drink and drown their minds in alcohool in order to forget the misery of this world and all the killings and atrocities of war they had on their conscience. However the very next day they woke up in bed next to each other wondering how the hell did they wind up there. They were both disgusted and wanted to jump at each other's throats...Yelling and leaving followed.

A few weeks later she found out she was carrying a baby, his baby. Confused and not knowing whether to keep it or not she decided to keep it a secret for now, she was simply too proud to tell him. Still, he found out too from the homeless guy next to the liquor store he used to kill his feelings, his memories, memories such as that of the abnoxious morning,oh the irony. He decided to confront her, to make her quit the army for the sake of the child she was carrying. No good, she was a cold blooded soldier as much as he was and didn`t want to give up just because she was pregnant. One way or another she knew she`ll have the baby on the batterfield. He was furious with her for being so proud and so stupid. Constant yelling (again) and arguments followed untill... one day she she told him she lost the baby duet o a gun wound from the last battle. From this point they kept their distance, even though that night was a bitter sweet memory for both of them. She decided to transfer so she could be far away from him, she didn't want her child to be raised by a drunken soldier father and so she disappeared.. .they were never to see each other or speak again.

Two months later, after a lost battle of SGP he and the soldiers were having their first permission in months. They were on the beaches of the South Dalmatian litoral at sunset. He was taking a cold bath in the sea to get rid of all the blood from the last few months. Getting out from the waves he was distracted by something. A woman was standing on a cliff, watching the sea. The sun was reflecting in the woman's hair. It was simply the most beautiful creature he had ever seen. Getting closer the woman turned around, she was pregnant.. It was her, it was his child growing in her womb, yes the one she said she lost. In only one second a million thoughts went through their minds, he wanted to break her neck as much as he wanted to make love to her right there on the sand … he wasn`t too sure where to start..

A moment which seemed an eternity passed as they were staring into each other’s eyes, no reactions whatsoever. Each one was waiting for the other's move, just like in a warfare situation. Then he made the first move, he knelt down in front of her and proposed to her. He swore his undying love for her and for their child. She said yes, with tears filling her eyes.Then she knelt too and kissed him. She wasn`t a cold soldier in those moments ... she was just a simple woman longing for her man.

It was about time to get over their stubborness, they were going to be parents. She was going to give birth to a lovely girl, born out of a foolish and passionate night. Her name is Dayanna, a girl whith her mother`s eyes and her father`s fighting spirit.

After the birth of their child, they decided to hold a small ceremony in order to celebrate their commitment to eachother. They realized that even tough sometimes they wanted to kill each other there aren`t two more suitable people in the new world for eachother like they are. Their hatred was in fact true love.
