A Spammy Congress is a healthy Congress

Day 5,575, 11:50 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Mr Woldy

Take a seat, Congress. My my, you're looking old, a little grey, and oh... what's this stale crust forming all over you? Ah I see what the problem is. You have a profound SPAM DEFICIENCY . Well... there is hope for you yet, but we will have to wait and see - election day is on the 25th and your fate is solely in the hands of the PUBLIC, hopefully they can inject more Spam into you, before it is too late.

The above is a scenario familiar to many of TRS's citizen-scientists and indeed to Congressmen from across the political spectrum. Don't believe me? Well ponder for a moment what other news articles you can find about ePolitics other than turnout reports, and that actually state a case and vision for the eUK.

I'll wait.

The finest would-be citizen-scientists among you didn't need to check to know they wouldn't find any. Those same clever-cloggs are the the same clever-cloggs who are yet to join the party, but know they soon will (Go on - now is the time). Those of you who have already joined know where the good votes are at. Those who are yet to join can in the privacy of the ballot box at least lend us your vote. In return for your vote, you will get the eUK's most passionate and active Congresspeoples. It is also the first time in a long while that the offering on election day has changed - The Spamicans are the Spam on the stale smelly Cheeseboard full of pink shiny promise. But what exactly is the pink shiny promise?

Each Spamican Congressperson we elect means another seat occupied by someone who:
- Will be active. No collecting the 5g, and disappearing all month.
- Will be independent. Free to vote how they please without the pressure of party grandees and outmoded 'traditions'.
- Will be engaged in politics. Rationality and freedom to challenge will be the motto of all elected Citizen-Scientists.
- Will champion Congress as representatives of all players. They'll lead by example in all of the above respects.

Simply put Spamican Congressmen believe that Congress actually has a role to play - they are given buttons, why don't we think more about how we use them? This does not mean over litigious and complex approaches - the Spamicans identify as an Anarchist party after all. But how does this translate to eRep's political module? It means respecting the positions and rules that exist ingame and not forcing rules upon people or politicians without building a consensus. It also means ensuring that any conventions continue to be relevant, appropriate, succinct and most importantly actually agreed to. The Spamicans reject Congress being subject to rules which Congresspeoples haven't agreed to. If not for the simple fact that if we expect Congress to do nothing then we look like a massive Stale Sandwich to new players or potential emigres alike. We can at the least expect them to talk about the buttons they are clicking on. After all a country's health is not measured in Training Wars alone.

Make the right decision on election day!

The choice before you boils down to whether you see Congress as being something that should be unseen and unheard or whether you want to expect more from politicians and more from the eUK's political module. In all honesty and fairness, either approach is fine - I do not believe at all in telling people how to play the game. But if you want a muted and inactive political module I challenge you to consider the long term benefits of that. I cannot think of any, and people across the political spectrum are reaching out to lend us our vote because they feel the same (all good Citizen-scientists!). If you want to fight decline, and at the very least make the eUK a slightly more interesting place for all of us (without even changing how you play) then you genuinely have one choice. Vote for The Real Spamicans. We will be the change for you! (Imagine what a spam-crammed house could achieve!).

Why not go a step further? Join The Real Spamicans.

I was interviewed recently about eUK matters - some history of the Spamicans and some Spamthink was discussed - if you might find that interested or would like to support the eUK's active Journo's then take a read.

As always, thanks for reading.
