A quick guide to trade unions

Day 247, 14:17 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Stan Wephen

Perhaps recently if you're a GM you've received a pm telling you to get your employees to join a trade union but have no idea what it is. Perhaps you're an employee with your GM telling you to join a trade union but have no idea what it is. Perhaps you've never heard of a trade union before. Well never fear, this quick guide to trade unions will explain all.

As we said we would do in the PCP manifesto, trade unions have been created. A trade union is a organisation of workers in a certain work sector, such as food or gifts. The point of trade unions is to give more power to the worker rather than the employer. This will make sure people aren't exploited with low wages, or unfair dismissals. For more information on trade unions, look on http://uker.forumotion.com/government-policies-f84/trade-union-legislation-t2757.htm, which has the full legislation on trade unions.

So, as a unionist, what can I do? Well, let's say your employer is being mean, and paying you 1 GBP when they should be paying you 4 for your skill level. You can talk to your union leader, who will then talk to your employer. What if your employer fires you for no reason? Talk to your union leader. The employer is more likely to listen to the union leader than to you, because unions hold a lot of power. Why? Because you've got more strength in numbers.

What if that doesn't work? Then the trade union leader can call a strike. A strike means that the unionists will not work for a period of time until their demands are met, such as a increase in pay. Strikes are a final resort, and there are times when a strike can't be held, such as during war. Any strike action needs the support of at least 75% of the union, but if supported, everyone has to strike. During a strike, the union pays for Q1 food so you don't starve.

So who's the trade union leader? Every month, there will be a vote to determine a trade union leader. This month the vote will be a few days after the election. Any trade union leader can also be part of congress or mayor, but not a General Manager or Minister. Currently, the trade unions are being run by myself and Tim09.

Where do we talk? On www.erepublik.co.uk, trade union forums are being created. Once made, trade unionists can post in there and talk to each other, vote for actions, elect leaders and decide strikes. Keep your eyes peeled for another press release explaining the forums.

How do I join? Simple. Add the appropriate SO trade union as a friend. If you work in a housing industry, add the housing industry union SO as a friend. Below is a list of the unions. Also, you must state in your personal description that you are a unionist and what union you are a part of.

So, what's the point of it all? The point is to create a network of people willing to help you get fairer wages and stop unfair dismissals. To create a network of friends willing to support one another. To create a network of employee willing to make the economy a stronger place, by giving power to the most important people – the workers.

So why are trade unions important? Because they're made to help you.
