A Quick Aside When it Comes to Accountability
Jacobi
On Friday I will be addressing the media in a press conference, as well as releasing a weekly report called "Canada, Today." It will be a fun filled night for me, I'm sure....but important for people to have the information they need to make informed decisions.
Now, my friend Keldire has criticized the size of my cabinet as a possible security risk. I do not see this as being the case.
First let me repeat what I said in the comments of his article.
"I admit to mistakes, I could have handled the Marchelala/Leto mia thing better, sure. I am happy the mistake I made was so minimal that I can learn from it with no damage done.
I am extraordinarily happy with my cabinet, from Scorpius to ElDorino, to Marchelala, to Emilio, to Adasko, I'm really quite happy.
I'm happy because I've got a group of dedicated and intelligent people doing their best to make our country better. I wish people had a better view to see all the valued help that I'm getting from Kelly Mahoney and Duke Leto. Even from Ambassadors like Volsung and Fram, its amazing!"
And I do mean that. Canadians ought to know that there cabinet is filled with people old and new who are so committed to moving Canada in a new direction. The support I get is indescribable.
But to address the main point of Keldire's article about how having so many people in cabinet could be a disaster, I go back to my main point about accountability.
Firstly, despite the size of cabinet, 95% of Canada's funds are in the hands of 5 people. They are myself, Kelly Mahoney, Rowlock, Moffington and Derakor. If there are to be any disasters in this administration there will be no deputies to point the finger at. No grandmothers to take the blame.
Five of us are responsible, five of us are accountable. If any money is misplaced as it was so many times in the previous administration, you will know who is at fault.
So if I have someone dedicated to bringing government announcements into the french language, I think that's good. If I have an experienced Minister dedicated to the creation of a new alliance, if I have an Attorney General who has done an excellent job as a legal advisor, if I have Minister of Finance that I have known for over a decade, I think that's a good thing for me and a good thing for Canada.
No matter how many of them there are, however, there's simply one and only bottom line. As Prime Minister, I am accountable for my cabinet, I trust them in their jobs, and I know what I'm doing.

By your words, should something goes wrong you all will be held accountable
Just like you and Alexander Rearden were held accountable several times Bruck?
Hilarious.
Bruck, what a novel idea. We should have thought of this sooner 😉
I never said that myself 😛
I understand that people can make mistakes and it's not my fault if they do, it's theirs
Well, Derakor shouldn't be held responsible if something goes wrong at CMoF, nor should Rowlock be held responsible if something goes wrong at CND.
But you get the point.
- Jacobi doing financial things
Info is just as important to protect as currency and it much harder to control with such a large cabinet.
Also with a cabinet this size how efficient will it be? How much time will be wasted in the confusion of everyone getting settled in? Will the right hand know what the left is doing?
I am glad that my article has started a discussion. That was my primary goal here
Damn, no grandmothers? What will I do now? 😛
Bruck 6 hours ago:
"By your words, should something goes wrong you all will be held accountable"
And then...
"I understand that people can make mistakes and it's not my fault if they do, it's theirs"
This is HILARIOUS!
Screw up on my watch = not my fault.
Screw up on the new guy's watch = his fault.
The hypocrisy of the old guard finally shows it's colors.
Andy, what Bruck stated is not hypocrisy. He is pointing out that Jacobi is making the claim that if mistakes are made then the five are responsible, where as Bruck is stating that in his administration the person who made the mistake is responsible. The wording of this article makes it appear as though Jacobi has put the entire financial team on the chopping block for the mistakes of any single one of them.
Your post, Andy, was deliberately misleading, trimming out Bruck's point entirely.
Sorry CuAllaidh...what's misleading is the double standard the CEP has for the new regime.
Was AR held accountable? Were ANY of the former administration held accountable for their mistakes?
Give me a break...this is just sad.
Interesting to note that there seems to be two camps in these arguments:
1) CEP members from Ontario who LOST the last election.
2) The rest of eCanada.
I think this is VERY telling.
@Andy Goolahee
As a CEP member from Ontario who WON the last election let me say that I have serious concerns about security.
I am in favour of new people having the opportunity to participate in the political process, I'm a new face in Congress myself. But why do we have so many people, many of them deputies with full access to Cabinet discussions? You don't see a problem with a Cabinet larger than half of Congress having access to everything?
Have we forgotten that loose lips, sink ships in this Country? I'm not saying anyone is a traitor, or would even think of tipping off our national rivals but accidents happen! Or accounts get hacked.
Can you give me even 1 good reason the Minister of Immigration for example should have access to the Minister of Finance or Minister of Defense's working discussions? Governments are compartmentalized for a reason.
I'm afraid "I trust them in their jobs, and I know what I'm doing." Doesn't meet my security verification requirements.

Your not missing much in cabinet discussion. You can practically find everything in the cabinet discussion on eCanada forums in the public section of the Atlantis forums lol.
Sorry I wasn't clear on that Goran...I meant PRESIDENTIAL election but I guess that was only clear to everyone else reading this.
And define "security breach"...like say a missing 200 gold?
Then what? Oh riiiiight. Nothing.
The CEP has officially spent more time speculating on problems this administration MAY run into than they EVER spent trying to explain the problems they DID run into.
Think about that.
Andy, don't look now but your bias is showing! 😮
Also, some things you might like to take note of. Bruck, didn't run for the last presidential election, Keldire, is in Congress, representing British Columbia.
hmm, security breaches, interesting you might try reading congressional archives before making rather bogus claims. Also, the CEP is doing what it's supposed to do, we are the official opposition. We now act as the Government's watchdog. Are we perhaps to loud, or notice too much for your liking?
Goran Thrax
"When the man is defeated in battles of words and thought he shall turn his head"
Wise words to you Goran Thrax.
Face the arguments you lose instead of making new ones.
Of course I'm biased! I am biased against the people i don't agree with!
And if this is the voice of the "official opposition" then I would like to congratulate Jacobi because the best/worst you guys can come up with is:
"Can you give me even 1 good reason the Minister of Immigration for example should have access to the Minister of Finance or Minister of Defense's working discussions? "
Call me when this access causes the loss of a few hundred gold. Until then...the sky ISN'T falling. Sorry.
And what "bogus" claim did I make "Ted"?
Andy Goolahee
Andy, it's caused problems before. When we had an RL Romanian in Cabinet and cabinet discussions got passed to RL friends of the cabinet member. eCanada still hasn't caught up diplomatically for that gaff months ago. Oh, and that was an ally.
Security breach, hmm, lets see you are labelling AR's loss of loan money to be a security breach? When Thekommie is the one who sold the company? Are you perhaps implying that the CEP was responsible for keeping Thekommie from making such an error? Or perhaps we are responsible for protecting his computer from some malicious hacker that sold the company without his consent?
If you are going to make claims like that, look into it first, by reading what happens in Congress.
to Quote you:
"The CEP has officially spent more time speculating on problems this administration MAY run into than they EVER spent trying to explain the problems they DID run into."
While some of the discussions regarding things like the first and second CAF thefts are not available for public viewing, the threads you can read, run to multiple pages, where the matters of financial losses were taken very seriously be members of all parties.
@The Bank of Europe, I apologize if in my last post, I didn't reply to you, since you didn't make a credible arguement I didn't want to bore any future readers. But since you press, it doesn't matter how boring Cabinet might be, they could have a nose picking contest thread. Any member of cabinet, that divulged that fact, has committed a breach of security, no matter how small.
22 people, (many of whom were put in place after the election with no prior public notice)are far more likely to have someone who will make a mistake, or attempt to advance their own career, than a group of 10.
Do you pay attention to RL politics? If you have, you know that in a committee of this size, it's not a matter of if a leak will occur, it's a matter of when.
RL? RL politics? CEP would have been run out of town on rails had this been real life! Or maybe where you're from politicians just shrug their shoulders when money disappears?
And I don't care if they are 22 or 220, so long as they are ACCOUNTABLE! It's as if you CEP guys can't even read the word! Please google the term and then we'll continue this chat.
Andy;
AR was punished, he lost the election didn't he. And from what I know of the incident he had been trying to get the contract honored. As for being punished within the ranks of the CEP, I don't know, its kind of a moot point at this point. If AR runs for office again feel free to bring it up.
As for a double standard... well ya... the parties not in power will naturally point out any minor flaw in any other party... its politics... where have you been for the past few millenniums since democracy was invented.
@CuAllaidh
Thanks for the poly-sci lesson.
BTW I was considering changing my avatar to something new...I'm thinking something along the lines of me kneeling in front of small children...any ideas?
Accountable? yeah, i know what it means. With us, (CEP) at least if you did the crime you did the time. Now with this huge administration we will be ass backwards trying to figure out who done what!
