A Living Wage!
Kylero
My fellow eBelgians,
We have a problem here in eBelgium. We are being enslaved by the Bourgeois characterized by extremely substandard wages. When we once made 8 BEF a day, we are now making 0.72 BEF, for eight hours of work. This is unacceptable. This profit is going to the owner, and we can't buy food, weapons, or anything we require to fulfill our interests.
I understand that when V2 came out we got scared that we'd be paying 8 BEF per hour, so Congress drastically reduced th minimum wage to 0.10 BEF. But we can't go on like this. We are being fleeced!
In strength and solidarity,

It might be a good time to revisit the minimum wage. How high do you propose to raise it?
Well I think that's a conversation that the MoF, MoSC, and the CP should have. But if we want a starting point, I say 1 BEF. Not only would it be the most logical return to normalcy, but it would also attract people who want to make money to come to eBelgium.
True the min wages are low in eBelgium, but what you are suggesting is a bit over the top though. 1BEF is alot!
Your argument that it may attract people who want to make money is false aswell, given the current economic situation. If min wages would be increased to 1BEF companies in eBelgium would simple close down due to the fact that it would be cheaper to produce elsewhere and import the stuff to our country... Only a system of protectionism would support such an increase. eBelgium however lacks the regions with high resources in raw materials and would therefore still be dependent on import.
But there is some truth aswell in your statement. Compared to our neighbouring countries an eBelgian has to work at min wages a min of 15h to buy the cheapest food (compared to the eNetherlands where min wages are 0,40NLG (=+/-0,20BEF) one only has to work 2h, eFrance 5h, eGermany 6h)
note1: I am aware the food is not exactly comparable, but I've been following up the foodmarket in the past and when foods were comparable it were the same numbers.
So the bigger problem, in my opinion, lies with the producers of food, who are systematicaly keeping the food prices high...
In view of the current prices of food, the present wage would need to be at least doubled, and preferably quadrupled, just to allow citizens to eat. This does not allow for the buying of weapons, housing, moving tickets, or anything else we might need in our eLife, nor does it allow anyone to invest in business or media. In view of that, 1 BEF does not seem unreasonable.
I think the effects of raising it to 1 BEF can go two ways. First, the way you said, that companies will leave. Or second, more people will come to our country, and become consumers, and the businesses won't lose on their profit, but might gain.
1 BEF is too high. I thought we were going to go with something more moderate, like 0.15 or 0.20 BEF.
To go from 0.10 to 1 is a bit extreme.
I honestly don't believe that it could go the other way than that I've explained.
Raising min wages will have to be something that needs to be done step by step. From 0,10BEF now to something between the 0,15BEF - 0,20BEF would be reasonable.
Also to tackle the foodprices or the high marketprices in general if you want(because that's your main reason to raise min wage, to be able to affort something on the market), our eGouvenament should make trading pacts for cheap food etc... aswel as they have done for raw materials (on which they've done a great job).
That way our eGouvenament would be able to enforce a low foodprice (in effect the trade agreement would see to it that there would be a max price for food equal to the price of the lowest bidder, since that would be the effective marketprice...), but this should be a measure limited in time, which would be easy to do (increasing the import tax to 99% would than suffice), until our domestic producers even up or near the lowest market price. (I only suggest this for Q1 foods)
Raising it to 1 BEF would make our economy even more unstable.
It should be raised to (cheapest food on the market / 😎. This should be a reference point. If the food prize goes up, the min wages should do the same.
