Join the new world

Today, I launch a new series of articles examining erepublik’s most important nations. I’ll take a look at their history, their strengths, their weaknesses, their dirty secrets, the greatest names, their friends, their enemies. Today, I shall start off with the country that started the game, Romania.




The History

Romania has probably the longest and most illustrious history of all of erepublik’s nations. They history starts from the very beginning of erepublik. The game erepublik is a Romanian invention so naturally the Romanians were first to join and from the beginning they were an important nation.

We’ll start off at the first major erepublik conflict, World War 1. This was all the way back during August of 2008. Romania at the time were not the biggest nation in the game, with countries like Norway and Indonesia dominating the world’s map. Romania were a member of Atlantis, one of the game’s major alliances of the time. But never the less, Romania invaded their bitter rivals, Hungary. A rivalry which stemmed from their real life past. This rivalry prompted one of the game’s biggest baby booms which saw Romania become one of the games greatest powers, if not the greatest power. Their numbers soared as their Invasion of Hungary continued, as players joined to have a part in the invading of Hungary. The Romanian invasion was successful and they almost wiped Hungary off the map, leaving them with only a single region. Romania would hold onto Hungarian regions until early 2009 where Hungary’s index boom became too much for them. But this victory left Romania as one of the world’s greatest powers, a title they still hold.

The next major event in the history of Romania was their Asian campaign. On March 3, 2009 Romania declared war on Indonesia, setting forth the motion for one of the games defining campaigns. After initial Indonesian attacks of Romania’s Russian held regions; Romania lost control of 2 of their Hungarian regions as well as two of their Russian regions. They signed a deal with Norway in which Romania took control of Urals to reopen the closed border between them and Indonesia. From them, Romania counterattacked to retake Western Siberia. Their counterattacks as well as the land swapping with PTO’ed Pakistan, saw Romania progress towards the high Iron region of Karnataka, one of Peace’s very few high Iron regions. But in what may be considered the greatest anti-Climax of erepublik, Indonesia RW’ed the region back to India, meaning that Romania would have to make a costly declaration of war against India to get the region. Romania made an agreement with India which included a Q5 hospital for the Indians ( For the lighties, Hospitals used to be the best source of wellness for during fighting). But the delay meant Hungary could attack Romania. Russia, China, Iran and Indonesia all attack Romania, putting the massive Romanian empire to the sword. The great Romanian empire ended in the battle for two of the games greatest regions, first they lost the Ukrainian region of Podolia to Hungary. Then followed the loss of the game’s greatest region and one of the most contested throughout the games history, Western Siberia, Indonesia winning the battle for it.

Romania would never reach the heights of the Asian campaign again. They would venture back into Russia during V2, conquering many of Russia’s regions in a joint Eden-USA wiping of Russian. Podolia would fall in Romanian hands again but it would always be a region which they would have to fight to own and hold. Today Romania is once again fighting Hungary, successfully wiping Hungary off the map, even if it was only for a few days. For almost 2 years Romania attempted to wipe Hungary, often ending in epic battles such as that of Central Hungary. However in November of 2010, Romania was finally successful in their attempts to remove Hungary from the Map. However this has not stopped the long term rivalry, as the nations continue to fight today.




The Great names

With a history as long as Romania’s, there is bound to be quite a few legendary names, here are just two.

Alex Craciun

Alex Cracium is the current Romania president. Very few players have the pedigree of Alex. This is not his first term as president, it is in fact his 5th. We need to go right back in history the Romania’s origins to see his first few terms. He was the man behind the attack on Hungary, effectively the start of the great Romania empire can be traced back to his decisions. Today, not only is he their CP but also a massive tank who can do nearly 3000 influence per shot. His name is known all around the eWorld, a name that is hard to ignore considering what he has done.

Bogdan_L

Bogdan_L is a name many will know; either because of his recent terms as Romanian president or his world famous newspaper. During his terms are CP, he wiped Hungary off the map, in what could be considered a fairly one sided war. But it is his newspaper that gets the most recognition. With 12 media moguls, he is one of the most subscribed newspapers in the world. His battle stats are known the world over as one of the best places to find information. Not many newspapers can claim the fame his has.

The friends and the enemies

Romania was first a member of Atlantis and the later Eden. It was for much of the game held close ties with Croatia; often being called Cromania. They have entered into many joint operations with their Croatian allies. They have also been allies with the United States and Canada since their ATLANTIS days; and continue that strong friendship even after the formation of PANAM. Two former close allies were Poland and Spain but recent actions have seen them become enemies as Poland and Spain formed the New World Order. Romania still is close to many of it’s Eden allies even following the split but in the last few months, have signed an MPP with Brazil showing greater Eden-PANAM cooperation.

Romania is one of the game’s most hated countries. Their greatest enemies have and always will be Hungary; largely due to real life hatred. They have fought each other in numerous wars over the history of the game, from that first invasion which saw their country boom, all the way to today’s battle in Crisana. They have also had a constant rivalry with Russia, going all the way back to their invasion of Russia during 2008 as well as Indonesia stemming from the Asian campaign. One thing is clear, they will always be on the opposite side to Hungary, something which makes the game what it is.




And some other things

It is often accused and joked that the game is made for Romanians and all changes are made to benefit Romania. This is due to the admins of the game being Romanian. This is something that the game has carried for much of its history. When a change is made, the admins will be accused of favouring Romania.

The strongest fighter in the world is Bogdan Adamutz, a Romanian citizen. He hits a massive 3516 influence per hit; a tank who can change a battle in the matter of minutes. With one of the highest ranks in the game, he has been known to win battles by himself.


Like ‘em or hate ‘em, they are one of the games most important nations and are here to stay.
