A foreigner’s view on Ireland political situation
![Ireland](http://www.erepublik.net/images/flags_png/S/Ireland.png)
F. Castro
First of all, let me start by saying that, ofcourse, eIreland is not the only place in the eworld that from time to time, political quarrels make their appearance, disrupting unity, driving people out of the country etc etc. This pretty much happens everywhere. Everywhere, besides the comment and article battles, there are voices of reason, calling for unity in these hard times, putting asides differences and working all together. This seems a little naïve, but the case here is: can we have unity?

Let me start with another question? What does “unity” mean? And should we have it? Well, in my opinion, unity is a really different thing than the “we are all Irish (or eIrish, as I am not rl Irish) so we should be united”. Nor does unity mean, “don’t fight each other, don’t argue, don’t disagree, we are all together in this”. Unity in an e-country has little to do with nationality. For me, it has more to do with democracy.
I am not ofcourse accusing the government of being totalitarian or undemocratic in any case. I do believe though, that in an e-country, especially in a respectively small one in population like eIreland, the key of forging a national unity is give people the right to participate in every move their country does. A government that does what our’s did with Belgium destroys unity, not because this is a wrong decision (we ‘ll get to that in the 2nd part), but because citizens realize that they have no say, they are not asked about anything and a bunch of people run everything. So they are left out. So they actually have the Irish citizenship, but besides that they can do little to organize their game with other citizens: they just have to sit and wait for decisions and orders. And when these orders are incorrect or challenged by a group of people, then the fighting begins.
What I am saying is that unity is something good, but it can not be built on the common nationality or e-nationality. It can be forged when all people are equal in this country, participate in the governing of the country and through that, realize that they can all work together as they have the same interests.
Part 2: on the attack at Belgium
There has been a lot of talk about that subject. There are 2 points I would like to make. First of all, in my opinion, strategically, this was a bad move. Besides that there was no point in attacking Belgium (we just added people to our list of enemies), there was no gain from that. None in resources, none in warfare, as the Brits were invading Ireland. The problem with the Belgium thing is that there is another parameter, far more harmful for Ireland than making the wrong decisions and getting wiped out again.
Ireland is small, but it has a very good reputation in the e-world as a country with proud, funny and hospitable people, ready to stand for every ally, despising betrayals and back stabbings, helping others everytime they can. Attacking Belgium the way we did actually not only brings shame on the country, but weakens our place in the diplomatic sphere, as it damages the trust and good opinions of others on Ireland. Strategically, we lost both battles that day. What we lost on our reputation though, we shall see it soon.

I don't have anything much to say to this, as it is a topic that has been re-hashed a gazillion times already.
Fact is, you get the government you vote for.
So while the current gangbang gets the most votes, they call the tune. If people want to see representative government with all inclusive policies, then they have to provide an alternative and make the numbers stack up.
Hasn't happened in a long time, sadly.
😞
Good article Fidel.
vote smart on CP this time people.
Unity can't happen when some people decide their own personal vendettas are more important than the country succeeding.
Also career politicians help to ensure that no matter how well eIreland is doing, no matter what is achieved they'll do their darnedest to turn it into some kind of spiel to try and get the two clickers to vote for them.
ie. This month we've done things anyone who knows much about the game would have told you were unlikely ever to happen. We nearly get into Central Europe for the first time and the people with personal issues and personal goals try to twist it into something negative.
This is the problem with politics in this game where there is no proper and fair media, no court system and lets face it a voting public who have little idea of how the actual strategical side of the game works.
And you'll see people call for unity only when it suits them, but in reality there are individuals who'd prefer to see nothing else but to get "one up" on their fellow countrymen and personal "enemies"...
great article voted
Very good points Connell. I agree.
Your comment annoys me AC
All i am saying is that we could do some simple things to go past these things you describe, for example the goverment should inform citizens on all matters. I am not saying that we can make Ireland paradise, but i think that involving citizens in the administration will reduce actions who promote personal interest rather than the country interests.
Very good points Connell. I agree.

Wouldnt agree with Conell there, except for that one comment:
"And you'll see people call for unity only when it suits them"
As for our accomplishments this term: Claiming they were "our" accomplishments is laughable at best. Now that our allies have changed their priorities...we are once again due for a full wipe by the time of our next elections in 5 days.
Wipe makes no difference for any elections other than congress Starkad.
I'd like to see any single one of the people complaining here try match it again next month. Ofc we know none of them actually will as that would require them to do more than b*tch in an articles comment section.
And Starkad, for us to have allies that were willing to put their hands in their own pockets for us, means we had to make allies of them in the first place.
The allies we have are a result of the hard work of myself and others. Your statements are what's laughable tbh.
v
We have so many people divided on the subject of whether this is a war game or RL with real repercussions.
Unity, not for a while
Excellent article. Thoroughly agreed.
Irishbhoy
You never knew how to take critizism, and thats why your work will always remain mediocre...no matter how much effort you put into it.
It's funny you felt adressed and compelled to explain yourself following my comment above, but I guess it speaks volumes.
"And Starkad, for us to have allies that were willing to put their hands in their own pockets for us, means we had to make allies of them in the first place."
Oh, and I actually give you that...just so there is no confusion.
But again, what is it worth right now?
Despte of what you said, losing regions and being wiped IS a problem, since we are losing productivity bonuses.
Feel free to do better than I have then, if you don't think it's good enough Starkad : )
btw there is a close mini-battle going on here right nowhttp://www.erepublik.com/en/military/battlefield/11498
maybe when your finished your criticising of others you could put some damage in to help us keep those bonuses, eh?
Ah yeah.... the "my way or the highway" argument.
A classic...but then it never worked, for the exact reason this article was written: Its non-cooperative.
I contribute as best as I can...and so should you and everyone of us.
Also my "critizism" only started once you began being apologetic. My battle-damage has been done long before that started, I usually read articles last.
Starkad doing what he does best der. Nothing.
Very good points Starkad. I agree.
Very good points Irishbhoy1967. I agree.
Very good points Yddub Emwolb. I agree.
"Starkad doing what he does best der. Nothing."
Haha, classic Ibhoy there....running out of arguments and the chest thumping starts.
Improve your game, show us what a big shot you are, and make sure we dont lose the rest of our country....then start talking.
Classic Starkad der, doing nothing.
See F.Castro.....
Unity? Forget about it...not as long people dont take thei rheads out their asses.
Why don't you be the first Starkad, yours is gone the furthest in that direction.
Compared to Ireland in V1, this IS unity!!!!
Compared to Ireland in V1, this IS unity!!!!
haha i lol'd it's true though, at least people are talking,,😛
I'm gonna go against conventional wisdom here and say that nearly everyone has a major misconception about our national unity.
I think we are a very unified country - in fact we have more unity than most countries.
That you constantly see infighting, mudslinging etc in our media is taken as a very bad sign by most observers, but I think it's not the worst thing that we air our grievances in the open and we don't hold back.
I dunno - maybe I've had too much to drink and am talking crazy and clutching at straws etc, but I like to think there's at least some truth in what I'm saying... lol
I completely disagree with you Gormley and you have a head like a turnip.
"thats why your work will always remain mediocre"
I LOLLED
I totally agree with Gormley. In Greece we 've seen rl threats..... You are not so bad
The trick is: Whenever one of your countrymen do something that makes them seem like a complete idiot...
Say to yourself: "He may be an idiot, but he's OUR idiot" 😉
Voted, nice article.
I think all the recent wars have brought the country closer. When we used to never fight anyone else all we did was fight between ourselves over such things as wording in a constitution.
Very good point moomoohead. I agree.

x2 best quote on this article. Seriously lold
Though it only works until you want to be led and surrounded by idiots. Practically, you could have elected the BCH instead of the ICA gang, there's really no difference, apart form the former having some style at least.
I have style SHM...
You should see my shirt, very snazzy
"I completely disagree with you Gormley and you have a head like a turnip."
I lolled really hard when I read this
sorry, i don't agree with your comment here, SHM.Despite all infighting about the current gouvernment and grudge about "things" happened in the past, imo the boys did a decent job from the military and strategic point of view.
And ALL of us made together a few things happen, what i haven't seen since i started playing.
- we kicked the polish (a ONE superpower) out of the eUSA
- we got our whole country back
- we got northern Ireland (wanted by the majority of the eIrish)
- we fought our way through half of the eUK and brought the battle to the gates of London
- we set our foot on the mainland of eEurope
-AND we fought for our allies all over the eWorld as they did for us.
Everyone should know, that the "supertanks" spend a sh*tload of RL money and when they turn up on our battlefields, we all should be happy and thankful. To demand that they always come to help us, before we get wiped is selfish, deluded and a disgrace imo.
Neither is it a shame nor a the fault of anyone, when we get wiped as such a small populated country from the eUK which is backed by ONE.
In the last 3 weeks we have achieved great things what none of us has expected and shown loyalty to our allies and friends as they always did to us.
I'm at a point now, where i will bury all of the old sh*te what was going on in the past and i apologize for accusing ydubb and Snuggles especially and to every one else i might have offended in the past.
We have done extraordinary things this month and we can do it again!
HAIL Ireland, allies and friends o7
No worries Daghda but you were right about Snuggles. A truly dastardly individual. Not to be trusted.
I like your post Dhaghda. Truth & positive \o/
For what its worth, I came to eEire & want to be part of it because it impresses me.
I like the attitude, & that you do not give a f--k, no eeek eek we are gonna be wiped again,oh what will we do, we gonna lose our productivity bonuses yet again.
Eire is respected.
@Snuggles
Nice shirt bro.
Well written.
Daghda +1
"No worries Daghda but you were right about Snuggles. A truly dastardly individual. Not to be trusted."
Yddub, you are no longer invited to my hollowed out volcano lair.
P.S. "dastardly" ... really???
I reckon you're a couple letters off
Ibhoy: Thank you, it's my favourite. I love plaid flannel.
lol wth happened to Daghda?
He's gone all logical or some sh*t 😮
xD
