A few eRepublik SH lifehacks

Day 5,266, 08:54 Published in Thailand Russia by UncIe

With the endorsement fever running around, the media module is going to become a useless dump for a long time, and it will be very hard to find an article worth reading at all.

So I'll just leave a few tips which might come in handy based on my twoclicker&SkyHero medal hunter experience and hopefully this little set of notes will remain on top in Thailand media for some time if you vote it up, endorse and comment. They might sound complicated, dubious or even gibberish, but it's just an opinion.

Most of these pieces of advice don't apply during event times like when I'm writing this, but work nice generally. Of course these work better for airmen with an air rank of at least a Group Captain, because it's difficult for younger pilots to be competitive. These fellows usually get some government, military or private help to rank up, at least in bigger countries.

1. How to pick a medal fight
At some point every Sky Hero medal hunter works out their own classic approach to hunting. Some people prefer to hunt medals mostly in their home country, some travel around the world, some fight from T-0 (the start of the battle) and some look for battles in T-30 or T-60 (30 or 60 minutes from the start) and enter SH spots which are unoccupied, but the real question is how to pick a fight with a free medal spot.
Basing on the situation in the game the number of training wars (TWs) varies, but generally there are at least 200 rounds running simultaneously (150+ at European nightime), and you might always find 15-20 free medals somewhere, outside events you may have 30-40 free rounds and even more on Tuesdays.
While there are some ways to automatize such search, there are also several good old manual methods. Whether you're looking for the battles which have just begun or the battles which are nearing their end, you might find the Filter button on the Wars page helpful, picking Fresh Battle or Late Battle to your convenience.

An easy way to open several battle tabs simultaneously (note: on desktop) is clicking on battle links with your middle mouse button (the scroll wheel), if any, as this helps you to avoid crazy right&left clicking.
While usage of scripts to assist oneself in the gaming chores has not been too much encouraged in eRepublik, many people find things like Warspages by Curlybear very helpful, as it helps to see the overview of the walls in each battle without entering it. Those with 0% on one side or 50% on both sides are the ones you want.

2. Respect the locals
It's generally perceived as a good thing to leave the host countries of the TW a chance to let their citizens make a go for the medals at the start of a round. While this rule is more often applied to Battle Hero medals, it's not bad to let local pilots have their chance too for, say, at least 10 minutes, as the key purpose of a training war is to help the locals hunt medals and rank up. Some countries may try to enforce a more strict policy, like 30 minutes for locals or more, but usually there's enough air up for the grabs for anyone with enough ambition.
Of course, at event times the number of fighters increases, while the number of free SH spots goes down, and this hint might be hard to follow, but try to be nice.

3. Fighting on the losing side is generally less nervous
If you're hunting in a TW (and 99% of hunting is in TWs), check which side should lose basing on the War History tab, and fight for it if no one has gone for the medal yet. This works for stable TWs only, as there may be a change in TW order for military needs. The score and behavior of people in previous rounds will probably hint you if something is off the schedule. In the screenshot enclosed everything is regular and normal.
It's preferable to hunt medals based on this pattern, because on the winning side your damage might sometimes become not enough to keep the wall where it should be, and the military men running these TW might overhit you.
Another important thing might be to ensure the medal ain't stolen from you so easily by placing enough damage so that overhitting you might move the wall. To ensure this, it is advised to set the wall to at least 33,4% if there's already a reasonable go for a medal on the winning side. Like, if there's 40k for the winning side, your 25k are safer than 19k because overhitting you moves the wall. Just mind the determination too because it influences how your damage moves the wall.

4. Make reasonable claims for the medal in damage terms
Generally the amount of a resonable SH claim outside the stinger or event season (and it unfortunately is such season in April 2022 when I am writing this) varies between approx. 25k and 35k air damage, but this may vary further based on the TW where you are hunting in and your reputation in this country and as a whole. The 25-35 option is quite low, to be honest, in some countries the figures start with 40, and as the game moves on and there are more fighters with more damage, the amount gradually increases. The amount of damage necessary is also likely to be higher in big countries who have few training wars and many twoclicker nationals. Just check some previous rounds if you're not sure how much damage is needed and you'll get the idea.
At event times the reasonable damage is much higher and varies depending on the battle.
On Tuesdays when many people are waiting for the air epic and are low on regeneration, you might want to hunt some cheap SH medals. Actually, many senior SH hunters do that; some of us take 20-30 medals on Tuesday and go down to 8-10 on other days of the week. Keep in mind though, that there are many hunters tempted to take a SH for 5-10k, so be attentive.

5. How to watch your medals
When hunting a Sky Hero medal, you're always risking meeting a last minute thief who will make sure your time wasn't worth it.
And if you stole from me or someone like me, even the kindest soul like me might become that thief.
So set a timer on your phone: check how much time is left before the end of the round on the Current Round tab - Battle Details subtab and set a timer on your phone to the said amount minus 2 minutes, then watch the battlefield.
This becomes even more crucial when you hunt both sides of the battlefield, as you risk two medals this time. In that case, watch the "losing side wall" (the wall of the country which should lose the battle), as the thief who wants to take two medals is likely to go there first; but keep an eye on the winning side as well if you are determined to keep both.

6. How to dispose of leftover air weapons
Air weapons provided a great means to improve our progress in air ranks by increasing our damage, and help hunters rich on cash to get more SH medals and gold for further pack sales and special offers. However many of us pilots experience the horror of the last piece of air weapons stuck in the inventory, and it's not easy to dispose of it because no amount of energy between 20 and 100 works to remove it when it's at its lowest durability.

Well, there are two ways which might work.
One of them is donating this cursed piece of air weapons to someone, like a dead account. This works in 100% cases.
Another way might be a bit more tricky and will cost you a little cash. You buy like 3 more air weapons of the same type, deploy the maximum amount of energy which corresponds to this number of weapons in the battle where you hunt (50*number of air weapons), then immediately cancel your deployment. Then you set up the deploy again, but this time click on "food" when having the air weapons selected. In more than 50% of cases you end up with 0 air weapons after the deployment is finished.

7. Watch your progress, but try to be not too harsh on yourself and others because it's just a silly game
You'll become better at snatching more gold when you track your progress.
Websites like my favorite one, the name of which is forbidden to be mentioned in eRepublik for some obscure reason, provide a valuable tool to track the numbers of top SH hunters in the selected country in 30 days. Just enter the website mentioned (it has 'box' in its name), click the "Top" tab and then the country flag you want and look for the Medals section.

For players with a PowerPack and BlietzkriegPack and sufficient air rank it's usually not impossible to get 250 SkyHero medals per month even without using air weapons, if you follow these tips and hunt regularly. This takes some effort on Tuesday when weekly challenge resets to get 10+ medals, and 8 medals on other days. You just dump your energy twice a day, in 4 battles in the morning and in 4 in the evening, and that'll be just enough.
However don't be too much of a munchkin and take things easier. And try to avoid too many angry exchanges over your hunting, this is the thing I learnt the hard way after all these years. Remember that eRepublik is full of jerks. And there's no need in you becoming one more of them, unless, of course, you're on some personal vendetta or a provoking mission due to your roleplaying.

8. Don't forget what you play for.
Don't turn into a pure hunting machine, use the gold to buy energy bars and special offers at sales during the year and fight for your country and allies.
