eAmerica - You Will Never Succeed
Jewitt
When I joined this game in late November, everyone was itching for war. Benn Dover, our President at that time, refused to go to war on the premise of "fun." After coordination with our Atlantis allies and enough pubic pressure, Mr. Dover launched Operation: French Toast which showed how great Atlantis was when it coordinated. Of course, the countries stopped coordinating and we lost.
Then Justinious became our next President and he was very close with Portuguese President Arthk. They coordinated a way for war games between the two nations and would fight about once a week to appease the public yearning for war. Sure, it was not perfect since it allowed PEACE fighters to gain just as much as eAmerican, but it was something we could look forward to.
When Sam became President, the wanting for war was higher than anything else. Everyone ignored the taxes, ignored the problems, ignored Alby, but wanted war. More and more war. Sam promised it, and he gave it. Invading Mexico was possibly the wisest and dumbest decision on part of the Presidency.
Our economy boomed into a war time economy - something that Romania, Indonesia, and Brazil have boasted since I have been eAlive. We gained three territories, but then we pushed on. This was of course a mistake. Regardless, everyone was still in support of our e-country. Then tragedy struck.
In December, when French Toast was lost, everyone criticized Benn Dover over his performance. The media pointed fingers and Congressmen tried to name names. In January, no matter how many times the media had said, "We do not plan to win," the public would be enraged with our leaders when we would lose the Portuguese battles. Even some Congressmen, obviously dumbfounded to what a "Top Five" article was, would question our competency.
In March, the final straw. The public was so angered at defeat that they tried to impeach the President three times, the third time being the blow heard around the eWorld. eAmerica looked tired, weak, and childish.
As many of us are real-life Americans, we have a different mentality than most other nations. Our moral high ground has left us in the dust in the race for "World Power" when we ignore the fact that this is not reality, but a game.
Political Takeovers, even if to stop one and elect in natives, was frowned upon up until recently. Some Congressmen still stand against it foolishly as we have citizens willing to help natives elect in their own leaders and stop their treasuries from being robbed.
Our populous is against expansion and imperialism because of their real-life ideology. Imperialism, like drugs, is bad, m'kay? Yet our populous continues to question our nation's strength and abilities and compare us to Indonesia and Romania. But Indonesia and Romania expanded and took what the needed.
We need to take what we need to "win" this game. We need a high iron so we can produce our own iron and not be dependent on Romania or Spain. We need constant warfare to stimulate the economy, to stimulate our workers and general managers. War brings us all high wellness, heightened consumerism, and a raising in overall rank (and thus, strength).
It is so obvious that war is good in this game, especially since no one really ever dies or goes through hardship as a result.
If it is so obvious that we should expand for our economic power, for our militaristic strength, and for our country's wealth, why don't we?
We are real-life Americans. It is in our blood to bicker, complain, and make asses of ourselves for some ideology that some philosopher wrote about hundreds of years ago. We are stuck in fighting ourselves for political control (CVP v. Libertarian, Everyone v. USWP) that we are ignoring a common factor: This is not a national social simulator, this is an international social simulator.
While we complain, bicker, and fight for whom is "Conservative" or "Socialist," our enemies and allies grow stronger. Their economies are strong and flourish. Their citizenry is wealthy, full of strong and hearty paychecks and war opportunities to level up.
So...unless we change, eAmerica, in our mentality and how we think about this game, our nation will never succeed, and we will always lose.
I found an interesting post on the eUS Forums a while back, and it was a response to "What do we value as eAmericans?" It really made me proud to be eAmerican until I realized that although we may value it, we do not practice it.
"We want to dominate, to be the strongest, and to be the wealthiest. We want high wages, lots of exports, and the means to produce everything at home. We know we have the largest population in the [e]world, and we want to use it to overthrow the other countries so we can be #1 again."

Vote for Jewitt for "Congressman" [Military Governor] of Baja. He'll kick tail and re-name all those "Juans" to "Johns." That's how it should be, right?
Due to complications in Report reporting, we are expanding to take on one more contributor. Message Jewitt for details.
Joe DaSmoe, or Former Vice President and eAmerican patriot, has written a reinforcement article here. It is well worth a read.

First!
No offence, have fun at failure
I like the article, and it's all true. We really need to fix some things, and I think all you said above is also the reason we are somewhat seeing an exodus of officials from our nation
Spot on
We can and do produce iron domestically now. A bird in the hand is worth two in the very very far away bush.
Let's get some high iron. Enough war games, let's put our strength and experience to work. Does anyone in the gov't have a plan?
Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait
Drugs are bad?
Good article, voted.
The problem with Mexico was arrogance. People thought we could just steam roll all the way through the country with no regards to portugal and the MPPS. The higher ups in the military and uncle sam thought after Mexico we could go through Venezuela and take high iron in Brazil ignoring the fact that Brazil is a force to be reckoned with in itself.
Its a shame, we would of likely won in Mexico had our military and Uncle Sam not of been so cocky.
100% Agreed, this is a game, and we should be about winning not worried about what someone else might think about those "Imperialistic Americans".
I LOVE YOU JEWITT! Spot on!
Gotta agree. I don't understand the "imperialistic" thing. It's like playing Axis & Allies or Risk and your fellow players calling you imperialistic when you take their territory. That would be silly! The only problem I had with the recent thing in Mexico was incompetence. If you're going to do it... be successful.
I could not have said it any better. Jewitt, you never fail to amaze me. Another great article.
Thank you Jewitt. People need to realize this is not the real US. This is a game and we need to play to win!
another great article!

@DF
I agree with what you said, but really, I think we could've done the steamrolling south if we had simply waited until day 470 in which Mexico would be bordering it's own regions allowing us to continue. Many military advisers did mention portugal could invade but sam ignored that.
Should we have killed venezuela somehow I don't think we could ever have taken brazils high iron because it's their original territory which would've put us up against Indo, Iran and all the others.

TRUEST SHIT I HAVE EVER READ.
Hell of an article Jewitt.
Go Jewitt 🙂
Shitty article imo
>But Indonesia and Romania expanded and took what the needed.
We need high diamond resources so we can reduce our high gift prices. I suggest we invade Canada.
>We need to take what we need to "win" this game
I really dislike people who think that we can win this game. It's just not something to win. Has anybody ever won WoW? Come back to me with that, I really want to know.
>no one really ever dies or goes through hardship as a result
That's just not true. Losing your country is really shitty. It might seem trivial to you, but can you imagine if the US was invaded and completely lost? A lot of people would leave the Game out of frustration and anger. More would troll their hearts out in their new countries. The rest would spend months doing everything they can to get the US back. No hardship? Look at how much work the Aussies went through to get Indo back, and look at how angry they were. They couldn't even contain their anger during diplomatic talks with them. Remember how pissed off Dish was? He had never lived in Mexico, but he's Mexican irl, and he was really pissed off when we attacked. So much so that he organized a Peace, despite the fact that they're evil, and he helped create Atlantis. So yeah, people get pissed.
Honestly, people like this is the main reason this game sucks so hard. They can't have fun without taking some one over, and they can't roleplay without being faggots. lol wats a middle ground
>>no one really ever dies or goes through hardship as a result
>That's just not true. Losing your country is really shitty. It >might seem trivial to you, but can you imagine if the US was >invaded and completely lost?
Getting pissed off is not hardship. In your example of WoW. When I beat someone's ass in the arena and they're pissed off, have I ruined their life? No. They're free to come back and compete. That's the nature of the game. If the USA were completely lost, I would fight to get it back. Actually, that might be more fun than the current situation, where we just have permanent wargames and pretend marriages between the popular kids in the forums.
>I really dislike people who think that we can win this game. It's just not something to win. Has anybody ever won WoW? Come back to me with that, I really want to know.
I disagree. I think there can be a winner if you set a victory condition for yourself such as dominant world power or conquest, or even dominant economic power. Whatever you want it to be.
In WOW you can't win cause the environment restricts you from having goals besides getting phat loot. This game dosen't have those restrictions and therefore we should do what we think is necissary to win based on our goals.
Someone finally said what I have been thinking. Lets play this like its a game. We need more training, but we can pull this off in time
I liked the article. All that needs to be said, really, is that newbs often don't realize the adverse affects of going to war. Succumbing to that peer pressure is something that many of us have faced, even myself to a degree. Entering French Toast was the best and worst accomplishment under my term, for different reasons. It helped us realize how shitty our military system was and now look, we have no military pay (Good). It also helped us realize how impossible it was to go to war with a country who has a lot of MPPs. And, aside from all of that, it really did help our economy - the USD plundered, but many Americans started to realize how effective augmented taxes are.
But, too much war is just bad. Again - going to war with Mexico was both wise and incredibly stupid. It cost us SO much gold, and Sam was very impatient throughout the entire war, but it did get us back plenty of currency/gold with the newly augmented taxes.
How many citizens know all of that? Not many, and this is the reason why going to war is based on the opinion of 52 elected individuals instead of 15000.
Brilliant.
You said everything I think about this game and the eUS, but you said it better than I could have.
"Operation Taco Bell" was a win in the sense that a lot of players ranked up and got their wellness into the 90's, which does make production boom.
But it was also both a strategic and tactical failure. You pointed out strategically how it failed. Decisions were made that allowed Portugal and 9 of their closest friends to come in.
Tactically, it was also a failure, at least from my perspective of Platoon SGT of my NG unit.
On the first day, orders were clear. Different divisions were given orders to attack specific regions by their commanders.
After that, it broke down completely. I remember reading online what was going on in Oaxaca, and sending individual e-mails to every member of my platoon telling them 1) which button to hit and 2) not to hit any of the links set up by Dishy that automatically made you fight for Mexico. I did that on my own initiative, because I noticed it. No orders were handed down. By that time, command and control functions had collapsed, at least in the NG.
I hope the NG has learned valuable lessons from the Mexican campaign. If not, guard soldiers are wasting their time.
The most important point you raise though, is that THIS IS A GAME. It is not real life. In RL, military conflict is or should be a last resort, as the human and moral cost is so high. But here in this game, fighting is fun, good for you, good for your country, makes you happy, makes you productive, and you should do it.
And our long range strategic concern, and this may take several administrations to negotiate, and may take several wars, is to take and hold a high iron region. We will never be a world power without doing that.
>Getting pissed off is not hardship. In your example of WoW. When I beat someone's ass in the arena and they're pissed off, have I ruined their life? No. They're free to come back and compete. Let's compare it to irl some more. Besides death, another big reason people don't want to be attacked is that they don't want to lose their territory. Remember When USSR took over all of western Europe? People hated that. They didn't die. Well they did, but not as a direct result of being controlled by Russia...kind of. Fuck.
Ok, the US Revolutionary War. Fuck taxes, I don't buy that. The reason we declared independence is because wanting freedom is inherently human nature. We didn't love Britain , we felt no allegiance to them. We wanted our land as our own, and so we claimed it. Nobody was oppressing us or killing us, we wanted what we felt was rightfully ours.
People who play this game usually want to play in the country that they live in and/or have emotional ties to irl, unless something happens or they're just not that attached to their country irl. the fact is that people are emotionally attached to their countries here, for one reason or another, and we should respect that, not go tromping around taking whatever we what because we have trouble imagining any other way to have fun in this game.
One of the best parts of this GAME is that your opinion is no more important than anyone else's, Emerick.
In fact, one would say that your voice is equal to an eUS citizen, which is less than an eUS Congressman. In that, the game gives the Congressman 1 vote and the citizen none. Unless, of course, you count the votes they each get in Congressional, PP and CP elections. In those cases, they are equal. But, in any vote to go to war, Congress = 1; Citizen = 0.
If we decided, in the future, to go on a war-mongering rampage (which is our right in this GAME) then you'd be free to leave this country for another one... ...again.
I really really hope he does Equality. This liberal crap about not hurting feelings is rediculous. Its like not killing someone in Halo cause it hurts thier feelings.
Oh my God thank you. My thoughts exactly... PLEASE run for President again.... Jesus....
It's like logging into Team Fortress 2 and having a pretend tea party. If people want to role-play in the forums, that's fine. We can still kick some ass in the game though, right? 😉
Argent Nuro: That is 100% right. Making this country pretty fun with a bit of role-playing and what not is great, adds depth to those that want it, but for others: Let's kick ass and re-name them.
Yawn. Benn Dover himself said that French Toast was for lulz.
It's funny because those are war games. eRepublik is a social/nation sim. You don't have to kill people to play it properly.
But it's SO much more fun when you do, Emerick. 😉
You people need to quick being so crazy (especially Emerick) and just start playing this game for the lulz. Great article, by the way.
"After coordination with our Atlantis allies and enough pubic pressure, Mr. Dover launched Operation: French Toast"
Pubic pressure? Tell me more...
Very well said Jewitt, great article.
Great article
>lulz
>i can has cheesebuger
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
It's interesting because in order to "win," citizens of the same country need to come together in the name of "national pride" for a common cause and take over other countries until they're the one and only superpower. But, we also need to rid ourselves of any RL thoughts about war, imperialism, death, etc. etc. in order to do that. In addition, not everyone can or wants to do that. Even defining the object of the game can't be easily done. This debate proves that. I'm of the opinion that the object is to win, not just sit stagnantly and make more and more money and get stronger and stronger. Otherwise, what's the point? We need to not only get more wealthy and more strong, we also need to clear the board of the enemy. Anyway, there's my wall-o-text. I'm done.
haha, great comeback to DF Argent, and great article Jewitt spot on spot on
now come back to politics we need you
I might one day 😉 Watch out the 25th, we might see a surprise candidate though if he doesn't get elected little will change. If he does get elected...it'll be like old times 😃
well this is worth a V+S 🙂
All I care about is money and score. roleplay this game? seriously?
The problem here Jewitt is our Morals prevent us from discarding our morals. In eRepublik you have two groups, two basic ones at that. Whenever you get massive amounts of people together they tend to section off and form cliques and etc. etc. etc. Anyways you have group a) Fun lovers, thrill seekers, and the run of the mill Internet asshole. You know who they are and they know who they are. Then you got group b) More nerdy group. Higher morals and standards. Understands history more than others. History by the way is important, it is how we learn from the past but I digress. You know these people and they know you.
Now as you can see these groups further separate themselves into smaller groups that you can more finely identify and stuff but I won't go into that. One thing I have noticed is these two groups love to group up. Goons are a good example, one big group of group a person's.
Now please proceed with saying how stupid my comment was and how inaccurate it was but believe me if you just open your eyes, see past the fine layer of bullshit, and deception and you will see it all for what it is. The Internet. Dun...dun...dunnnnnnnn

I'm in the second. It's too bad. Group A kicks our ass a lot. 🙁
I would like to consider myself part of Group A, though I feel like I ride the line with B 😛 You guys be the judge. Great assessment there Armandez.
Okay Group c) borderline
Group C I am 😃 Pro-war, pro-game manipulation 😃
I hope y'all don't plan on invading Canada again, we beat you in the Can-Am war last year, we will do it again if we have to 🙂
I doubt it will happen eCan and eUS are on excellent terms, and I thoroughly enjoy the company of Huskerguy (your ambassador to us) on IRC when I see him.
