7 years

I'm not dead, surprised?

Seven years ago today, I began playing eRepublik. It was fun, and so different from any other browser game I had played. There were a myriad of options, and so many ways to get involved in a dynamic community of thousands.

Sadly most of my old friends from those early days are gone. Cruor Avis who first introduced me to eRepublik. Bruck the President of the nation, and PP of the first party I joined is gone. Plugson and Dade Pendwyn two thoughtful giants in our media are gone. Jacobi An old rival and friend is gone. Dereck Ryan my old Commander and friend. It's been seven years and a lot of work. Alas the game isn't the same, both in mechanics and in spirit.

I've been Commander of CoI for over three years and while it has been great and deeply fulfilling, it has also been tiring. I no longer have the drive and commitment to my MU or the game to do it justice. After three years, it just feels like work, and not play. Effective immediately I am appointing Wilhem Klink to be the new Commander of the Captains of Industry. He has my full support, the stockpiles and all my moneh!

A few people who shall remain nameless have suggested that I stay engaged by cutting loose, doing something wild or to radically change my persona. I admit I thought about it, both before and after it was suggested. Yet time and again I came to think of my legacy, my history of service and I don't want to tarnish that. It's egotistical I know but I like being respected. 😉 So alas I don't intend to do anything fancy, like overthrow the government and rule eCanada as a theocracy under a tyrannical Space Pope. I just love you all too much (friends and frenemies alike) to pull a dick move for my own amusement.

That means that I will just stop playing one day. In a couple months, all of my pit business will be concluded, everything handed off, and I'll fade away. In the meantime anyone who would like to stay in touch, we can figure out an out of game means to do just that, facebook, skype, whatever. I'm friends with many of you outside of eRep, and will continue to be the staunchly moralizing copy/pasty annoying pain in the butt I've always been here, in any other corner of the internet where we happen to meet.

Love you all, and thank you for seven years of friendship, support, debate, amusement, trolling, and love.
