What's with the VAT on Food?
Peter Green
Food prices are high. And they're high for a reason. For a long time, supplies in food (especially Q1) were high and demand was low. This led to low prices and major losses for food companies. Those days are over. Prices have risen once again and the industry is making a profit, which is good. But why does the VAT have to be 23%? I think the government doesn't need this. We should lover the VAT to 1% asap.

Why not PM\'ing Archibald to talk about it?
cause first I want to hear what the public has to see, some public debate is good for our media I think 🙂
Government has to make money somewhere, though. Funding isnt instantaneous, and with the VAT on moving being reduced, food is most comfortable because it\'s a percentage, and the prices are smaller. Think if they tried to introduce a high vat on something like housing.
Lowering the VAT on food is something I am considering. Like Dish says though, it\'s our government\'s main source of income. If we take that away, we will have to print currency more often to cover things like new citizen fees.
well, perhaps we could tax something less basic? I\'m just thinking about new players who need to get their wellness up asap and thus buy higher quality food. In my opinion, food should be as cheap as possible, as should gifts be. Perhaps we could tax moving?
we just lowered the vat on Moving, maybe a VAT on weapons during peacetime or on hospitals, lol. The problem with a VAT on hospitals is that it would make them even more out of the reach of everyday mayors and make government intervention necessary and then once again the money is not going to the government at all. lol
With the Population constantly increasing like this, it wouldn\'t hurt to introduce a bit more USD into the economy. Merely lowering the VAT could do that.
