I. Speaker of the House Election!

VS

After a round of nominations, Federalist Congressman Oblige and Socialist Freedom Party member and Congressional staple rainy sunday have thrown their hats into the ring. Initially, Oblige had dropped out of the race after Congressman and fellow Federalist Gnilraps accepted his nomination. However, Gnilraps has since withdrawn from the race stating:

I am returning my nomination and withdrawing from consideration for Speaker of the House. Since accepting earlier today, I have been asked to become involved in the upcoming PoTUS race. If I should be successful in that pursuit I would step down as SoH. In light of this it seems imprudent for me to pursue SoH at this time.

I recommend that Oblige be replaced onto the Ballot since his withdrawal was predicated on my candidacy.

Oblige returned to the race and has made this statement:

Although the nomination process for this SoH term has been a little rocky, I thought I would take the time to outline a few of my goals if I were elected SoH this month.
• Increase Congressional activity, particularly on IRC
• Guide Congress through more structured forum discussion
• Get a budget approved before the 18th
• Re-kindle the updates to the Constitution and Code that Cromstar began

Those are the basic list of my objectives. I am of the belief the a good SoH guides and focuses the conversation, rather than steers it, and this would be my objective as well.

The current tally is:
rainy sunday: 14
Oblige: 18

II. Congressional Committees To Return?

Congressman portcolumbus initiated a discussion regarding Congressional Committees to help organize Congress. In particular, portcolumbus suggested creating an Congressional Assistance Council to help freshmen Congressmen and a Congressional Aid Commission to organize funds for various aid programs. Some early resistance threatened the discussion, as committees in the past had hindered certain functions. However, there exists at least on committee that is essential and considered productive, the Select Committee on Intelligence, which according to the eUS Constitution:

The Committee must include no less than 5 current Congressmen and the CBO Director(s), as well as the Speaker of the House, or Deputy Speaker of the House, or their acceptable representative, if either can not pass security check. The President or the Secretary of Defense must attain 5 approvals from SCI members before spending any reserves except in an emergency, which only requires 3 approvals. Information provided to the Select Committee on Intelligence should be as detailed as possible. Insufficient information may be grounds for disapproval of the funding request.

Could other committees emerge? We will have to wait and see.

III. Other Debates: Import Taxes, IRC, and ONE’s Military?

The 46th Congress is not shy about starting new discussions. Here are a few that deserve some attention:

Congressman Dan Wang began discussions on Import Taxes. One on thread, he suggests RAISING Import Taxes on Food Raw Material. In a separate thread, Dan Wang has suggested an Import Tax rate of 1% for Food and Weapon Raw Material.

Did you know Congress has a public IRC? You can find us at #eus-Congress and that has become another discussion. Congress is discussing how best to make use of the channel. Speaker of the House Nominee Oblige hopes for more Congressmen to be active on the channel and available for citizens.

Finally, Congressman Leroy Combs has inquired as to how ONE’s militaries are organized. The study may give insight on how the enemy functions.

IV. Today’s Proposals

1. Donate 99,999 USD to the Congressional Budget Office.
2. Buy Construction: Hospital, for 99,000 USD from Colin Lantrip.

Come on in, have a seat

The recent increase in productivity has left me full of Food, Raw Materials, and Weapons. What does that mean? Time to give it away! I will be giving away 1,000 Q2 Food. Here is how you can get it.

1. Write a comment on what you want Congress to do this session. (Doing "nothing" will not count).

Only one step! However, this is only open to eUS citizens and only the first TEN commenters, which means 100 Q2 Food (or 400 Health), will receive Food. So, let the games begin!
