2nd Verse, Worse than the First!

Opinion

Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one. Some are bigger than others, but in the end (yeah, I went there) they're just opinions.

"Why do you bring this up Dogpyle?" you might be asking.

Well, not too long ago, yours truly left an apparently not too popular opinion in the midst of replies to an article about our egovernment. Now I don't want to go into detail, but a couple of folks got a little bit heated and had some opinions of their own, which I think is great! I then attempted to engage these people to expand upon their opinions (admittedly, a couple of wonderful folks and I carried out some lovely conversations via PM) which they were unable to do. Their opinion was that my opinion was wrong.

The problem with this, and the reason we are having this conversation Dear Reader, is that my opinion was based upon observations of events happening in the game. Events that most of us are probably aware of. Concrete "this is what happened" events. Their opinions were based on "you are wrong". They hinted and alluded to game mechanics and rules, but never came up with any "hard" evidence.

That's all well and good, I've got thick skin. What really gets me though, was how adamant they became that I was wrong, that I was just a stupid noob and I wasn't worth their time to actually point me to the rules and regulations that made my opinion invalid. Is this really how we want to treat newcomers? I'd guess retention rates are low enough that we don't need to drive fresh blood away before they even get a foot in the door. Who knows, that noob just may be the next POTUS if you give them half a chance, or maybe even the first person to unite the world (which would suck, cause I like to do me some fightin').

So what's my point? Aw hell, I don't know, I guess my point is that opinions are great, and dissenting opinions are great as well. But there is no need to belittle anybody in the process. If you think somebody is wrong, tell 'em why. Don't beat around the bush and hem and haw, just lay out some facts. You might even change their opinion in the process.

Pic of a hot chick for making you read all that BS
