Increase your damage.
War is coming (a statement that is always true in eRepublik).
Everybody needs to bulk up their damage for when it counts.
Currently (day 4860) eUSA campaigns are training wars instigated to increase your Military Rank. By increasing your rank you increase the damage you register in battles. Battles are won by the total of damage done, not the number of kills.
The formula for military damage is:
D = 10 × (1 + S/400) × (1 + R/5) × (1 + FP/100)
where:
D = damage per hit
S = Strength
R = Value of the Military Rank or Aircraft Rank
FP=:Citizen's fire power (weapons)
(per eRep Wiki)
For aerial damage strength is zero and only Aircraft Rank and weapons count.
As you can see, rank is the more telling (and for aerial combat the only) factor to increase your damage in the short term. Just go out and get more kills (called defeated enemies in the Wiki). All it costs is food (energy). Weapons do not change the number of 3 hits required for a kill.
Strength increase is a limited amount per day, costs gold (as capital investment or daily expense) and used to be much more important. Don’t neglect strength, but it is long term.
The Weekly Challenge across the top calculates prestige points (one hit = one prestige point) from your deployments and gives you stuff. Starts Tuesdays at 00:01 PST for me (it is always midnight somewhere). The big prize is an achievement trophy and 5 gold.
BUT
There is a rule and some limitations to putting in enough hits (5,000) to finish the Weekly. The rule is don't use Energy Bars just to get hits for the Weekly. Save those for war. The limitations? How big is your energy pool? How do you increase it? (residence and houses for one. See article #2 of this series). How fast does your energy pool allow filling? How much food can you afford for fill-ups and how often? How often will you log-in to fill the tank (your energy pool) then go and fight? UP all night! (just a memory).
A tip: your Recover Energy limit keeps on increasing even after you fill the tank. This allows you to consume that much food on the fly during your deployment. If your energy pool is 500 and full and your Recover Energy is 500 and you have enough food in storage you can do 100 hits (1000 energy) in one deployment. This is called a food fight of course.
I am told aerial deployments to increase Aircraft Rank should be a big priority for eUSA citizens. Aerial battles are the 4th, 8th and possibly 12th battles (rounds) in a campaign.
So a shout out for eUSA program GIMP that gives you cash for increases in Aircraft Rank.
So far for my lowly self, in Division 1 (Wiki explanation of divisions in battle deployments here), each kill costs 30 energy (3 hits). The cost may be an extra 10 more energy per deployment and there may also be an extra kill in the total. Aerial combat kill cost are left as an exercise for you as I have not been actively trying to find aerial deployments as I should. I surmise the number of hits for a kill may increase as my damage per hit or my experience level increases, but maybe not.
In my opinion (the best part of the article for me)...save the energy bars and especially the weapons you may obtain for battles in real wars. Weapons do add to rank points, but they will add the same points later during a war when the damage you do really matters.
I ask for corrections, questions and comments from you the readers.
unpoetically yours, weasel2.5

You are right. Game for newbies is really hard. It sounds impossible to reach the damage of the old players, till you don't pay real money. But well, this happens in every game.
Keep up the good work!

Well done.

Increase aerial rank
Thanks for linking to the bagpipes. But perhaps it could use a wee bit more cowbell.
Good job

Weapons do increase rank points. The rank points you receive from a kill is 10% of the damage you did.
for epic battles (see https://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/Epic_battle) you receive 2 prestige points per hit
Thanks, will edit that in

what is the pattern of aerial battles v. ground battles in a campaign
Mister Y
Air has rounds 4, 8 (12), it has one division only, winner round take 22 points.
Ground has all other rounds, and points are divided in 4 divisions: 1+2+3+5.
