Challenge Coins

Recognizing excellence.

Like many aspects of military tradition, the origins of the Challenge Coin are a matter of much debate with little supporting evidence. While many organizations and services claim to have been the originators of the challenge coin, the most commonly held view is that the tradition began in the Army Air Corps.

Coins given as awards for accomplishments are normally given to the recipient during a handshake, passing from the right hand of the giver to the right hand of the awardee. It is also normal for the giver to offer a brief explaination of the reason for awarding the coin.

Brian Williams tells us about Challenge Coins.

We'll explain more about the USArmy Public Affairs Office Challenge Coin Program as it progresses. For now, suffice it to say they are a Morale tool and will be awarded for excellence in service.

Today we honor three members of the USMilitary whose dedication and personal drive have benefited many.
Each will receive a specially selected Challenge Coin and ten Q5 tanks.
Please join me in congratulating these, the inaugural recipients of the USArmy Public Affairs Office Challenge Coin Program.

Bradley Reala has been the Commanding Officer of the National Guard, has served in the US Congress, and has been Country President, but it is his service as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for which we honor him today.
Brad stood up to political aggression designed to destroy our USMilitary. 'Nuff said.

Kria Erikson currently serves in the National Guard and has served in the US Congress, but it is her service with and for the USArmy for which we honor her today.
Kria has been, and still is, probably the highest visibility soldier in our IRC channels. From greeting visitors to manning the Supply Room, Kria is the best "first face forward" any organization could ask for.

Cstarlight21 has been a long standing member of the Marines, and currently serves as the Vice-Commandant of the Marines. We are honoring her for her very hard work and perserverence in the face of a weighty task.
Starry has had the task of stepping up when the Marines needed a new XO. She pushed the Marines forward, tackling issues with commune structures and communication, while honoring Eugene Harlot's memory by making sure that the Marines continued with their traditions of excellence both on and off the battlefield.

Brad, Kria, and Starry have earned the respect of their fellow soldiers, and so have earned these Challenge Coins plus ten Q5 tanks each.
Please join the USArmy Public Affairs Office and the Army Times in congratulating these fine soldiers. o7, and well done!

Announcements:
A great patriot and friend of the USArmy, Devill, aka xxmattxx1 in IRC, donated $5,000 USD (five thousand dollars!) to the Army Public Affairs Office. His contribution will go far toward buying more Q5 tanks to give away to readers of The Army Times.

The Thursday edition of this newspaper, Accepting Applications: USArmy War Correspondent is still climbing in the Social/Entertainment rankings. If you have not already done so, please click on over and click again to Vote it up.
Wednesday's USArmy Movie Night: The Fighting Seabees was a great success. Ya just can't go wrong with a John Wayne movie, plus all the rest of the Seabees material.

And finally, the Army Times has published its very first Warfare Analysis edition! Please click on over and have a look at Operation: Dracula's Revenge, and of course vote that mutha up!

Thanks for putting every edition of the Army Times near the very top of the charts!

If you want to join the USArmy,

You'll have to survive the Training Corps first.

Army Public Affairs Senior Officer
